Indie Spotlight Series 54

 

 

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of Indie Spotlight Series. Not a ton on the docket this week but nevertheless still some books to look out for. Without further delay, let's jump right in.

 

 

Over The Ropes 1

Mad Cave Studios

Growing up in the 90’s WWF wrestling was one of my favorite things. Memories of Stars like the Ultimate Warrior, Jake The Snake Roberts, Superfly Jimmy Snuka, and Macho Man Randy Savage are still very vivid in my head today. I can still hear Hulk Hogan's famous catch phrase, “ What you gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you” if I close my eyes and think about it hard enough.  Over The Ropes from Mad Cave studios looks to bring back some of that nostalgic feel as it dives into a fictional world of 90’s wrestling.It will follow the story of a young wrestler who goes off script in the ring,  and the struggles he deals with in everyday life.. Can't wait to let this one take me back in time.

 

 

 

The Butcher of Paris 1

Dark Horse

Absolutely love the premise of this book as it follows a French detective who is trying to solve a murder mystery in a city that is on the brink of war. As Nazis are moving in on the city one  of the most prolific murders is having a hay day as he or she racks up over 200 victims. I like this book as a long term hold if the story is done right    

 

 

Kill Whitey Donovan 1

Dark Horse

Next up we have another Dark Horse book, and this one is writer Duncan Sydney’s first work in comics. Sounds like it could be a fun read and if done right the book could gain a little momentum. The story follows a woman who is seeking  revenge for her dead sister and she will not stop until the job is done. Don't sleep on this one tomorrow if you see it at cover price.

Red 5 Comics

What would happen in a world where we could separate souls from there bodies…… Graveyards would be like a used car lot where the keys were left in the vehicles for anyone to take…..But its not quite that easy. To get to this so called “car lot, ”  you have to sneak by DEATH……. The premise is out there for sure, but I like it, and am definitely on board for issue one. Keep your eye out for the 1:10 incentive variant on this one with cover art that is yet to be released.

 

 

 

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TMNT 1

Well this is a crossover that I honestly never saw coming and am very anxious to see how it works out. Two properties with huge fan bases for sure, but vastly different fan bases in my opinion. Judging by sales though, this is definitely something people are anticipating.There is a very cool 1:50 Eastman sketch variant, but I would watch out for that one for flipping purposes. There are so many store variants on this one that there will be a large number of the 1:50s  on the secondary market, thus killing the value. However,  In true Boom! Studios fashion, they have slipped a Thank You variant in there for retailers, and it's selling very well, going for $50 plus right now.  That price may drop moving forward, but If found cheap tomorrow a quick flip could be a great plan.

Storm Kids Monica Bleue: A Werewolf Story 1

Storm King Productions

This will launch a new monthly anthology called John Carpenter Storm Kids, and this one looks pretty interesting. A struggling young girl comes face to face with a terror in the woods and her future is changed forever. I will give this one a chance tomorrow, if I can find it, that is. Sure to be a very small print run on this book.
