Dollar Bin Digging 57

Ghost Rider #15

Keeping with the spirit of the Halloween season, this fantastic glow-in-the-dark gimmick cover from 1991 is the perfect blend of gimmick and subject.

I remember when that 1st print glowing skull was actually hard for me to find back in the day. The 2nd prints were all over but that 1st print used to be a wall book in a lot of shops. Now it seems the Gold 2nd print is more sought after by collectors by a small margin in CGC.

But these days you can find both in the dollar bins. 90’s overstock is coming out of estate sales and storage lockers and filling up those flea market dollar bins.

I still grab both of these when I see them out there. They are both still great covers.

Recent Sales Data:

Night of the Monster Men

These days I am seeing tons of DC Rebirth overstock in the dollar bins. While most don’t have much aftermarket value right now, I still grab any covers that catch my eye for a buck like Frison Wonder Woman’s.

But those early Rebirth titles were also pretty solid reads if you recall. For a buck, I will check out any series I hear good things about to give it a try.

That said, I enjoyed this Night of the Monster Men crossover when it first came out; and I’m now seeing these in the dollar bins. It’s perfect for this time of year, so check it out as these are worth a read. Especially for six bucks.

The entire 6-part story ran through the following Bat-Titles: Batman #7-8, Nightwing #5-6, & Detective #941-942. These also had some sweet B covers as well.

Recent Sales Data:

Complete raw set – $29.99 on 8/16/19

I like looking for Batman Shadow of the Bat #1 Victor Zsasz. Often lumped into 90s bulk books.

Yeah that Batman Shadow of the Bat #1 is in tons of dollar bins. Condition is not always great, and it’s not as easy to find the poly-bagged collectors edition still sealed with the little extras.

Good dollar finds. With the popularity of HOXPOX, I still see the old Phalanx storyline books in dollar bins. Uncanny Xmen 316,317,etc. Another one is Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1 263, first appearance of Normie Osborn. With Normie popping up in books now, I can see ASM 263 going up.

Yeah those X-books were so highly printed it’s not hard to find them in bins. that’s why I spotlighted a few back in September. I see tons of those Uncanny 305-317’s out there. Not so many Normie’s out my way though. The old ASM’s I usually see are beat up ones with Rocket Racer for whatever reason.

I’m always on the lookout for Impulse, Quasar, Sleepwalker, 80s & 90s Batman and Detective Comics. Just finished a run of Marvel’s What The–?! last week out of the dollars bins.

Thank you for these articles. I look forward to them.

Thanks, and I’m with you on hunting hose titles. I’ve been grabbing a lot of Quasar’s lately. Gonna have to put some of his books in a future Dollar Bin Digging. But the Sleepwalkers are another one, but i usually only look out for #1, #19, the Halloween mask one, and the last issue #33. I should start a What The?! run. I see those a lot too and only have a couple.

Silver Surfer, second series and October Faction.

I haven’t seen many October Factions out my way, but tons of Silver Surfers from the 80’s/90’s. i love those books. One of my favorite runs. My run is complete so I only tend to grab the minor keys when I see them. But just fantastic reads back in the Starlin/Lim days.

    Ultimate spider-man #1

That’s not a book you will find in many dollar bins. Maybe one of the many reprints, and absolutely a good chunk of the run, but a #1 1st print would be a tough find for a buck.
