ARTIST: Darick Robertson
The show has been received well and this is hitting $80+.  Will this see the same fate as Umbrella Academy books and fall hard after everyone watches season 1 and season 2 hasn’t come out?

2 Blade the Vampire Hunter #1

WRITER: Ian Edginton
ARTIST: Doug Wheatley
IF, and that was a big if, you could sell this a month ago for cover price, you were doing well.  Since most can’t afford a TOD #10 anymore, they are turning to this 1st solo series…$30-40 now

3 What If #10

ARTIST: Various
Continuing to skyrocket, decent raw copies are well over $100 and some as high as $200+.  Am I the only one that thought that the Thor synopsis was the weakest of those announced at SDCC?

7 House of X #1 Shannon Maer ‘Virgin' Variant /600

WRITER: Jonathan Hickman
ARTIST: Pepe Larraz
We all could have bought this pre-sale for $50 for the set of this one and the trade dress version.  The virgin, now live, is selling for close to $100 itself.  Maer has quickly picked up a huge following–look out for that Spider-Gwen next.

8 Star Wars Galaxy's Edge #4 Stacey Lee 1:25 Variant

Meh.  Not my favorite for sure, but these Star Wars fans and their low printed variant love…$40-50

9 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #96 Sophie Campbell 1:10 Variant

WRITER: Tom Waltz & Kevin Eastman
ARTIST: Dave Wachter
$40.  1st full female turtle? Maybe? My bet is still on #95 being the book to get.  It clearly has passed the new phase and has now entered into the longevity phase.  We will see what they do with her story-wise and if they can keep up this hype.

10 Riptide #1

WRITER: Scott Chitwood
ARTIST: Dany Luckert
Maybe I missed some news, but this was less than $10 a week ago and is now a solid #25+.  And with that, I once again own zero of the books on this list—oh well…

Appreciate the time and hard work you put into this every week. It is always a great cap to friday.

Managed to fluke and and score 3 copies of Silver Surfer 81 and a copy of 82 today out in the wild. If Tyrant turns into something in the future for the MCU, could be a great SPEC buy. Thanks, as always, for the great lists and the heads up. Love the Top 10 list every week.

The Love She Offered #1 is doing good out the gate.
Downplays Gutt Ghost, but that What If book also isn’t a true first either but no mention of that.

I think The Boys is better than Umbrella Academy so hopefully it doesn’t see the same drop off. Plus it has a lot more source material.

I seen very little interest before and after for the boys. It is the same with other TV projects. The only TV shows I have seen take a turn is Crisis. Rumor is driving some markets with the MCU but most investors I have talked with at live auctions are weary because of the lack of definitive knowledge of the future. One guy said it was like penny stocks now where you are investing for big returns rather than the safe bets.

I agree with you on that Star Wars Galaxy’s edge variant Ben. There are better Doctor Aphra covers, and there are far better Stacey Lee covers. This one looks like it has been cropped, and is a bit cartoonish

Also, sort of agree about the new Thor movie. And I’ve been waiting for Sif to come back for a long time. It doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen at this point 🙁 I’m much more excited for the next Doctor Strange movie! That title alone does it for me!

Totally agree. how no one is talking about the multiverse is beyond me..

They are talking but not sure where to go. Muliverse with Zombie or where you have such properties as bringing in Deadpool and other successful properties to the MCU as part of a big bang pseudo crisis event where universes are combined? I have had people looking for Annihulus, Micronauts, and others seeking Captain Britain books for some connection to the mulitverse. When you interview investors out here at auctions they are talking but no one is sure what to talk about LOL. As one said, most of the stories before were predictable and you could invest with some degree of certainty, but now with the MCU everything is fair game. One investor also said what Lady Thor do you hit, the What If version with MCU and Disney+ ties or the regular appearance. Uncertainty is making it scary out here for investors.

I think Gutt Ghost is a result of FOMO. With so many different versions offered pre-Scout, I doubt this has much staying power beyond a quick flip. It’s quirky and fell under a lot of peoples radars when it came to pre-ordering but it is by no means sold out.

I have a question for people. The Top Ten is for? Is it for buzz or is it for books being sought out? The reason I ask is because I want to know as much about the market as possible. I would love this section and wait for it every Friday at 5pm but the only drawback I have is that I wish it would account for different ages. Most of the time that occurs as in this article where gold, silver, bronze, copper and modern ages are reflected. I have tried other sites and have found they use the internet to base their reports and some of their sources I have found to be less than credible and in one case the person had issues to sell and pumped those rumors to sell their own books. When I wrote my article I based it upon investors I talked with at live auctions who were both buyers and sellers. This is one of by go to articles to read and wanted to say how great it is to read it but was wondering if you could provide some insight as to it. Again love the articles as they are one of the few places on the internet where you get actual investor reports based upon fact and not rumor or personal opinion.

PS. I have been seeing a cool down on some MCU and DCEU because of the lack of films and tv shows…. Even the Boys has barely peaked interest out here in investors at events…What are the rest of you seeing in your areas?

    • Ben Steiniger

      Hey Joey,

Thanks for reading…What type of insight are you looking for?

And yes, in a different universe, there would be a list for different eras, but I am just trying to provide a snapshot as a whole. Having 4 different lists would water down the impact of ‘The 10’.
