Do we really need video this and video that…. ?
I liked the old format… don’t alienate things by thinking we all need videos.
Just an opinion… but I’m getting tired of all this change.. I can quite easily spec my own stuff… it’s all becoming a bit to much… love CBSI still

Ummm. Not sure what you are referring to. The video portion is in addition to the website article that has always been here. If you don’t want to watch a video, you don’t have to.

No changes are being made to the article, it stays exactly the same as it is. Whether you were aware of it not there was already a weekly video. CBSI is just changing who is doing the video for the Hot 10 and other site content. So, if you like the printed content over the video version, it’ll still be there and unchanged.

    Yeah……No thanks

I am all for this. Not to offend but just being honest I did not enjoy Comic Tom’s recaps or really much of the content on his channel. Looking forward to the new content though.

I prefer to read the list than to wait for someone to read it to me but if the option is Comic Tom or anyone else, my vote is squarely in the camp for the latter! Just sayin’! 🕵️

First of all, I’m very appreciative of CBSI and its partners across all platforms. This organization produces invaluable free content for the comic community. Many thanks to all who are making that happen. The same could be said for its partners. I’ve got give credit where credit is due, Tom and Russ have been killing it with those CBSI Hot 10 videos and CBSI True First for the last year +. They are largely responsible for putting the CBSI Hot 10 on a lot of people’s radar.

This announcement stating that all CBSI video content will now be solely released on SimpleMan’s YouTube channel comes across a bit odd. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d like to offer some constructive feedback here. The optics of this would look better if CBSI were moving the Hot 10 videos and True First videos to an officially branded CBSI YouTube Channel. It’s confusing for folks new to this, that SimpleMan’s channel is the official CBSI channel. Y’all need to have your own branded channel with Simple Man and Mr Bolo doing the videos. As is, it looks like you’re taking content from one 3rd party video producer (who has done an insanely good job with it), and delegating it to another 3rd video party producer with less subs and not quite the same video production quality. This comes off like CBSI is pulling the rug out from underneath ComicTom and Co. The fact that y’all didn’t have ComicTom in this video announcement or the fact that he hasn’t released a statement passing the baton so to speak, looks like all parties weren’t in agreement. It’s CBSI content, so CBSI can do as it pleases, but as someone who subs to both channels and reads CBSI, this decision feels like a step backwards in terms of video production quality for CBSI. Hopefully Simpleman and Mr Bolo’s new Hot 10 and True First videos will prove me wrong. Much love and appreciation to all parties who put in the hard work to produce free comic content in any form for the community.

Ugh! Is there any way you can do both? The average video here is well over an hour in length and honestly I don’t think people have the time to regularly watch them. Adding more videos to the mix is just going to create a bigger backlog of unwatched videos. Even if I don’t “watch” the video and just listen to the audio in the background, it still requires a big chunk of time to hear the whole thing.

What I love about the written articles is that they allow for quick reading that can be done here and there as the content is posted. They also can be something I quickly check out while I’m taking a break from doing other things or on the fly from my phone if I’m not at home. There is also no way to quickly reference a specific part of a video without having to scroll through it and that again takes more time and steady internet connection which is not always easy to obtain on the fly. I love the Top 10 list but most times I only care about a few books on the list. The same holds true goes for Weekly Picks, Hot & Cold Books and Tales from the Flipside and other multimedia features on this site. I usually end up skipping them altogether because it’s a huge time suck and even moreso having to scroll through the content to find the specific parts I care about.

I understand that there are probably other factors involved with You Tube when it comes to viewership incentives and subscriber bonuses but I think the move to feature more video content is going to reduce the number of people who tune in. I’m just not sure your average member has 5 or 6 hours a week to devote to the multimedia content. Grow that content length number and prospects look even more slim.

Also, did Wednesday Warriors go bi-weekly? This is the second week in the past three where there was no column.

Not sure how but I guess people didn’t understand that the list will still be on the website and in addition to that there will also be a video.

Simplemans videos don’t hold a candle to the quality and content that ComicTom101 puts out. Just my humble opinion. For example this video announcement is not professional in content or appearance. Again just my opinion.

Quality…his videos are shot in a garage…what quality does that take…and not to hard to read a list that is already prepared for you. And what does he truly offer in knowledge? His co-hosts provide all the info. I could sit anyone/ or thing in a seat and do the same thing. And the announcement is not professional…they thanked him for what he did. It was a business decision. So when you get off work at McDonald’s and actually work at a real job…maybe then you will realize that sometimes for people to grow…they need to part ways.

Don’t get this move. ComicTom was rocking it. Good luck to you guys, but I won’t be watching. Here’s hoping that ComicTom does his own Top10 list!

Simplemans videos are weak and don’t hold a candle to the quality and content that ComicTom101 puts out. Seems like Simpleman is still shy on the camera and stumbles in his words when talking … when he makes a mistake in his videos he pauses and starts all over like we don’t notice that or something instead of full edit .. smh Just my humble opinion. ComicTom always gave a thorough Top 10 vid with analysis and video quality —- Mr Bolo aight ,, he seems good but still bad move .. booo

    • Avatar

I’ll be frank I haven’t watched his channel for a couple months but when I did watch the recaps their “analysis” was pretty terrible. It usually consisted of Russ or Tom or both not having knowledge of the book then rephrasing what Ben wrote. They mostly seemed confused as to why books often got hot and didn’t do any research before their recap.

GOOD, I COULDN’T STAND WATCHING TOM, HE COMES OFF AS ARROGANT AND POMPOUS. I ALWAYS JUST WENT TO THE WEBSITE FOR THE TOP 10 AND UNSUBBED TOM. GLAD BRIAN OR WHOEVER WITH IN CBSI IS TAKING IT OVER. THOUGH I WILL AGREE WITH ALOT OF THE OTHER CHIMING IN, THE PRODUCTION AND EDITING COULD USE A SLIGHT UPGRADE IF YOUR HANDLING IT IN HOUSE. I SUGGEST GETTING A HOT CHICK IN A BIKINI . . . LOL

I need more answers? Not just the boss guy saying I don’t want Comic Tom doing the top ten list no more and now I want simplemans comics to do it, that’s weak because comic Tom was killing it and for someone who follows both channels I think we deserve a better explanation.

Simplemans/CBSI videos are long and overdrawn. Don’t need an hour video for 12-15 minutes of content.

    • Avatar

This was part of my point. The videos are too long and I think it prevents a lot of people from watching. I gave up on them long ago and prefer the written stuff. It’s great that the articles will remain but I hope the time commitment to the videos doesn’t affect the quality and timeliness of the writing. It’s a big endeavor, I wish you success.

      Long live the Top 10.

I’m sure I’ll find a way to still watch Comic Tom, but… this is pretty disappointing, I have to agree.

  • Avatar

Less videos and more written content. Who has 45 minutes – an hour to watch a video?

Here’s what I think…..The straw that broke the camel’s back was when Key Collector became an official Sponsor to ComicTom’s Top 10. Why is this??….because when the whole fiasco of Action Comics 1000 (Yes that book) in which Naomi was to have presumably first appeared in and in which it was later on discovered that this was all bogus information, CBSI and Key Collector was the first to break the news, but what ultimately happened was the “finger pointing” game started on who was to blame on who gave out misleading information, that ultimately caused a lot of people to buy this book (luckily I didn’t buy any)….and that’s where the animosity towards each other began (in my opinion). And as soon as ComicTom announced that Key Collector became a Sponsor, CBSI broke ties with him – because of the bitterness with Key Collector.

Again, this is just my 2 cents. I’ve been following CBSI for many years and I’ll continue to do so, but I’ll also follow Tom’s videos…more information and more resources equal to better speculation purchasing ventures!!!

I haven’t watched for a while so I didn’t know about the Key Collector thing. I don’t mean to state the intentions of others but I do now wonder if that had a little something to do with the decision.

I get Tom has to plug his sponsors but it’s a little bit of a conflict when your primary sponsor is technically a competitor of the site you’ve already partnered with for content. Seems like he should have left the Key Collector sponsorship plug off the Hot 10 rundown.

I agree, I’m sure ComicTom had a gut feeling that there was going to be some kind of backlash for this particular sponsor he chose to go with, but I guess he chose to ignore it.

key collect sponsorsing a top ten list. Does anybody see the giant conflict of interest in a price guide app that makes its customers pay for info, sponsoring an arbitrary top ten list? Screaming pump and dump.

  • Avatar

Personally I don’t watch any videos on here. I just read the articles.

This is a GREAT move – not a fan of the Comic Tom videos.

  • Avatar

Big bummer. ComicTom brought me to CBSI and he and Russ did a great job with the list.

  • Avatar

id rather see pics and comments than a video also.

  • Avatar

I think Tom is a talented presenter. Comic Tom was growing quickly and people were discovering CBSI as a result. It was a win win situation. Who knows what will happen now.

  • Avatar

Is it only me or was this a scripted announcement?

  • Avatar

What’s going to happen to Tom? Will his kids be ok?

I love this page but the videos are extremly boring

    Not feeling it.
