Spawn #297 Diamond Summit Variant

HEAT CHECK STATUS: pepperpepperpepperpepper

So this actually happened a few weeks ago while I was on vacation, but I knew once an unsigned copy of this book hit the market that it would go ballistic. I’d say $1k would qualify. There were just way too many signed copies coming out of the Diamond Summit. All the smart people went and shook Todd’s hand, then took the raw book home. That first to market unsigned 9.8 is going to fetch a pretty penny.

People have been holding onto this book for dear life, as virtually no raw copies have come up for sale in the last few months. Two raw copies finally emerged in the last week and sold for $485 and $400. I feel like Kamala Khan got lost in the Naomi shuffle, which isn’t a bad thing if you’re a buyer.

Now this cover is self explanatory. Although Scarlett Johansson won’t play Black Widow on the big screen again (I think), her variants have always been popular as this one sold for $160.

    What’s the appeal of an unsigned copy to be worth $1k? … doesn’t a TMCF sig add value to any spawn comic?

      Mahleezer summed it up quite well. Todd McFarlane was actually at the event signing, and my guess is most retailers wanted to meet him and get their book signed, thus driving down the population of unsigned books. This almost always drives up the price on any unsigned raw copies, which was exactly the case for this book.

        I don’t buy that logic. Signed books trumps unsigned books any day.

          No, certified signatures trump unsigned books, unsigned books almost always trump uncertified signed books. I say almost always because as was discussed in another article on this book. given the nature of its release, uncertified signatures are trustworthy.

            Disagree, many autographed books don’t need costly verification just to sell well.

    @Rossbanter:

    It does usually add value because it’s rarer. However when most of your retauiler variant statsh is signed, the ones that are unsigned become much rarer and thus have more demand.

    Also, with CGC giving it a qualified label because the sigs weren’t witnessed, means it loses some value as well.

    I like that Avengers Solo Scarjo variant, but nothing beats the Black Widow #1 Scarjo photo cover variant from Iron Man 2 movie.

    Hot!
