Variant Heat Check for 6/11/19

Detective Comics #1000 Ross Variant

HEAT CHECK STATUS: pepperpepperpepperpepper

It’s been about a month since the release of this book and prices have predictably come down from the all time highs. As more and more people get their books back from grading, 9.8’s are seemingly common (ala Batman Damned) and are selling for a little over $200. And just like the Batman Damned books, the first to market CGC 10.0’s are commanding an incredible premium, with 2 of them selling for $1,500.

Queen Sonja #25 Parrillo Variant

HEAT CHECK STATUS: pepperpepperpepperpepper

Not really a variant but a 50/50 split with the Grieshop cover, this book is hot on the heels of #23 (which was featured in the Top 10 last week). It appears that people are finally catching on to the Parrillo Red Sonja covers, which means they will be harder to find in those dollar bins! This one fetched a cool $100.

Planet of the Apes: Ursus #1 1:15 Larkin Variant

HEAT CHECK STATUS: pepperpepperpepper

This crazy cool cover by Bob Larkin is hard to find, as a CGC 9.8 sold for $200, which is terrific for a 1:15 ratio. Look out for that 1:25 virgin!

I picked up the 1:15 & 1:25 of the Planet of the Apes at cover price when it came out, I had no idea it appreciated in value.

Woohoo! I made the list! That ‘Planet of the Apes Ursus’ Variant was actually my sale. Quick story – I bought 3 copies of that book from the Boom site when they released for $10 each. All 3 went to cgc, all 3- 9.8 . Last I checked a couple months ago they were the only 3 9.8’s on the census. I’ve sold one last year, just sold one a few days ago to a person in Australia , and the last one is in PC. It’s one of those books where the trade dress is actually better than the virgin.

I also got lucky and got that Apes variant. One of my favorite variants from the past few years! I have the trade dress version, but I really like it that way. Feels like one of the old 70’s mags.
