Shoutout to Jason Shaw and his ‘Last to Know’ column for this one.  1st appearance of Inque. In April this was basically a $1 to cover price book.  A couple of weeks ago there was a $20 sale. Now it is $40-50 and a 9.8 just sold for $230.

Pretty funny play on words to be honest.  But still, $80-100??  Anyway, what is everyone's thoughts on these political books?  Will they keep making them?  Will they hold any long term value?

8 Immortal Hulk #2 5th Print Alex Ross 1:25 ‘Virgin' Variant

WRITER: Al Ewing
ARTIST: Joe Bennett
That was a mouthful to type out for a book title…anyway, was selling around $30-40 and is now up to $50-55.  And yes, I know everyone hates this ratio later printing concept, but is it really any different than all the store variants doing Virgin copies of older books (which I dislike as well)?

9 Boogily Heads #1 Gus Fink 1:2 Variant

Easily selling right now for $10-15.  This is another book that I am not really familiar with.  It looks like a kids book, but maybe not because of the concept?  Please comment below on what you think of this one.

Hopefully the pearl movie news isn’t that there won’t be a movie

Why is AOC going for anything after market? It’s still $20 preorder on their website and will print as many as they can until the 10th..

    • Avatar

The $20 preorder for AOC is the variant (unlimited quantity until closing date) vs the original 500 limited. I’m not buying into it.. no one will care long term. However, I do think it’s cool they are donating a portion to charity. DC would be dicks if they tried to do anything now lol.

Man, I wish I had the money to buy a bunch of mostly garbage. Although, This Mag is Haunted is really rad. Has a Madball vibe to it.

AOC, baby, SHE IS COMING FOR YOUR SOUL!

Sure seems like A LOT of wasted money being spent………but to each their own……

Pre Code Horror is experiencing a HUGE upswing these days, nothing is surprising in the realm of Golden Age comics… As for variants, a lot of this baffles me, but I dont collect many variants and I have a feeling that new money and collectors/speculators/investors are driving prices up on certain books, while others are truly just hard to find.

Great list as usual Ben S!!

black widow 2 book sold is interesting with 2 color breaking ticks.. or are my eyes playng tricks on me ?

  • Avatar

the aoc cover switch is bs, all the did for unlimited cover is change color of letters. shady business practice

Helluva list….was that sarcasm?….maybe….maybe not…..oh well…. I thought Inhumans #5 might make the top ten this week…. Or at least an honorable mention….Rumor has it that Yelena Belova may be the new Black Widow moving forward in the MCU…. Some of her appearance’s in thunderbolt’s could see some heat as well………Just me “SPECULATING”…. lol

The Veronica #28 is awesome, I seem to be steering towards this type of art and comic genre lately, trying to move away from movie based spec,, so glad to see most here are just comic appeal…. great work again Ben,, still my favourite piece on CBSI 👌

What Marvel did with those later printing virgin ratio variants is not give them to a certain store and just make money off them for themselves.

what is driving the sudden interest in these nearly 30-year old Veronica covers?

    • Ben Steiniger

I’m sure there is some FOMO, but honestly, I personally think that the massive increases in pre-code female cover books is in part one of the reasons. Most people can’t afford those so these are becoming the next best thing.

      • Avatar

thanks for the response. it’s still a bit peculiar as there’s no shortage of this sort of thing out there now ranging from the more explicit (e.g. Avatar Press) to the tamer yet highly suggestive (e.g. Red Sonja). were those Veronica books subjected to very low print runs?

      • Ben Steiniger

Yes. Looking at print runs for these titles over the last 20 years, they are generally in the 3000-4000 range. So definitely not plentiful. And a lot of Red Sonja, Vampirella covers have dramatically increased over the past year as well. Some titles are seeing increases (even zombie tramp) while others are being ignored. I think these Archie books were ignored, but now that there are eyes on them, people are realizing that they are not easy to find.

    • Avatar

I believe the biggest part is that you just can’t find them. The late 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s archie books are tough to track down. Most shops don’t stock those back issues and they are scarce online.

  • Avatar

I hate politics in my comics im not buying this garbage. Nothing but indoctrination of the children.

    • Avatar

I get your point but these books are very limited. These are not widely distributed for the general public to casually buy them for children. Claiming indoctrination is a bit dramatic. These are not unprecedented. Political comics about left and right politicians have been made for years now. The only difference today is the extreme division in our country and our perception of these books. Not the books themselves.

Can’t believe I left a Veronica in a 1$ bin months ago! Big oof GREAT LIST THANKS FOR WORKING FOR ALL OF US!!!
