Wednesday Warriors 5/29/19

Welcome to the NEW Wednesday Warriors!

Each week we will go head to head picking just ONE book in each category in a battle for NCBD supremacy. Best of all, you get to pick the winner! Sound off in the comments if you’re #TeamSimpleman or #TeamBolo and we will recap each week in the following weeks Column.

So its Brian vs. Jack.

Simpleman vs. Bolo.

And there can be only ONE.

Most Looking Forward to Reading Marvel

There’s no doubt, whenever a new issue of Chip Zdarsky's Daredevil is released it is on the top of my reading pile.

Brian and the rest of the Youtube Comic Community has finally broken me down and I am ready to check out the new Daredevil run. The new storyline seems like a perfect place, especially with the solicit for issue #9 looks so interesting.

Most Looking Forward to Reading DC

It’s frustrating this book releases with such a gap between books. But I still love this story and look forward to picking up this issue.

Issue #8 blew me away. Like Doomsday Clock, this series has been plagued by what feels like slow scheduling. But this story had some huge moments and I am ready to see how it ends.

Most Looking Forward to Reading Indie

Really enjoyed the first volume. Love everything Mad Cave is releasing lately. So I’m excited to read this issue.

I am gearing up for that big event starting in issue #40. This issue features the first cover of the New Solar Rangers featuring The Ranger Slayer front and center.

Cover Art

This cover reminds me of the great pulp horror movie posters! Love Love love it

Alex Ross doing these hulk covers has been as consistent as they come. Now Ross tackles the portrait style that has been popping with DC cover B's. Home run!

Regular Price Variant Marvel

I still keep beating the drum that I think in the short term you won’t see much rise in these covers. But they are gorgeous and could see a rise later when collectors are looking to make sets.

This new Venom suit was all the rage when the first print dropped. True to form with the current crop of Marvel late printings, this sees that popular suit adorn the front cover of this 2nd print.

Regular Price Variant DC

Great story and the next book in DC’s Black Label coming off the buzz of Batman Damned and the popularity of Jock makes this a must have.

I think has been under talked about if anything. The story will determine this one's success.

Regular Price Variant Indie

Saga Homage! Paired with a great story. Vault continues to kill it with their homage covers.

While Mattina may have found 2018-2019 to be rough, his Spawn run has been redeeming. This cover does not disappoint. I am ready for Spawn #300 too!

Incentive Variant

Issues #1 and #2 instantly shot up on the secondary market and I see this following that trend.

C'Mon, Liefeld …...it had to be done!

Top Spec Pick

This kicks off the horror universe Bradley Golden is creating for Antarctic Press. It has garnered a big reader buzz and I expect this cover to be under ordered.

I hate these late printing Incentive Variants with a passion. Having said that I expect these to be in demand.

Sleeper Pick

Not to many people are high on the Marvel tie-in issues, myself included. However, I love Daredevil with Heimdall’s sword as the God of Fear and seeing him on the cover makes this an instant pick-up.

This one wasn't on my radar until I saw a very cool Larry's Comics Variant. Then upon doing some research found myself increasingly intrigued.

Last Week Look Back

I won't even break these down individually because its bad, real bad again. Each had a couple saving graces.

Final: Draw 2 - 2 - 6

It's a sad, sad ….draw ....again.   What did you guys think? Who took last week?  Who will win this week? Sound off in the comments!

I thought this article was supposed to be posted on Tuesday night? …

These 2 care more about their VS deal that no one chimes in on or cares about than they do getting the article out Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. The format is super lame and redundant and they stole the warriors logo ta boot, which should be off limits.

Wed One went away when Adam left. We had zero to do with it. Its time to get over it. Adam will come back one day. And I imagine so will it. And what the hell is a VS deal? Also its called homaging dude….relax…..Wednesday Warriors………come out and playyyyyyy!!!!!!!

I think the 1:25 Immortal Hulk #2 Incentive will be overly ordered as they made the regular cover initially a black and white of the original Alex Ross. So many people ordered that alone. I have a strong belief that the 1:25 of the 5th print will probably close to the same print number of the 1st print regular cover. We will have to wait to see what print numbers are next month to really tell which book will be the long term hold.

Umm, that would mean there would be 200000 of the 5th Printing to enable there to be 8000 copies of the 1:25. That obviously won’t be happening.
We tried to have a guess had it a while back and we thought there were about 3 store exclusives making about 9000 (I could be wrong) and then another 6000 ordered. That would make about 600 copies of the 1:25

It really sucks what Marvel’s doing with the subsequent print run variants. I’ve never complained about the variant game, but this is watering it down big time. I really hope people speak with their wallets, but people don’t really stand for much these days.

What i think is really cold is the move Marvel did for Immortal Hulk #2 5th Print regular. They first advertised it being a black and white of the Alex Ross original art. Then the week of release, last minute change it to interior art again without notifying shops. So many people ordered the 5th print regular because of what it was supposed to be (me as one of them) and then get disappointed.

      Cold move by Marvel

I was the inker on the variant cover for War of the Realms : Spider-Man & the League of Realms #2.
