The Weekend After Wednesday for 5/25/19

Want to know which books from Wednesday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 5/22/19. They could still be at your shop.

MILES MORALES SPIDER-MAN #6 (MARVEL) – Man, people love themselves some new characters lately.  This features the first full appearance of STARLING, the granddaughter of Adrian Toomes, the Vulture.  Her first cameo (in full costume and named) is in MILES MORALES SPIDER-MAN #5.  She could have some staying power. Spider-man characters seem to stick more then most.  With that said, this is a tepid hot.  It’s been selling between $10 to $13.  So, it’s teetering back and forth from warm and hot.  #5 is still selling for cover price.

ROAD OF BONES #1 (IDW) – Prices are all over for this. It’s sold for below cover and up to $18 shipped.  The most recent sales have been for $14/$15 shipped.  $13 shipped seems to be the lowest you can get right now.  Definitely one to track down!

WAR OF REALMS NEW AGENTS OF ATLAS #2 (OF 4) 1:25 RON LIM VARIANT (MARVEL)– Yep, this was no surprise.  This is going for $100.  Were you able to lock down a copy?  Congrats if you did.

MARVEL TALES IRON MAN #1 (MARVEL) – Just like Black Widow, this variant has cooled down from a height of $210 to now $100 to $110.

BATGIRL #23 MIDDLETON “B” VARIANT – Wow! Has it really been a year?  I know I say that a lot… but this felt like it came out ages ago.  Last year, pre-sales were hitting crazy highs of $50.  Then ebay was massively flooded with copies and it dropped to $25.   It slowly went back up and leveled out around $40.  However, today it’s selling for $55 to $70.  It mostly gets somewhere in the middle around $65. What’s strange is how low 9.8’s sell for.  Those sell for $125 to $160.  This tells me we’re due for a slight market correction.  This is just one of those “hot covers” that stuck with fans and it sure doesn’t show any signs of going back down.

PINK PANTHER 55TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL RETRO ANIMATION VARIANT #1 (AMERICAN MYTHOLOGY) – This hit a height of $40 last year and now sells for cover price of $10.

JUNIOR HIGH HORRORS #5 – Now, this isn’t on Keenspot’s website yet so I can’t tell what it sold for, but this #5 variant is a fun glow in the dark Ghost Rider #15 homage.  It sells for $15 and there aren’t any currently listed.  This SHOULD hit Keenspot’s store in a couple days.

DETECTIVE COMICS #1004 (DC) – Man I love this connecting cover with issue #1005.  Brooks is the best.

DRAWING BLOOD SPILLED INK #1 (OF 4) (EASTMAN STUDIOS) – Hmm, so Mr. Kevin Eastman started his own publishing company.  This is an Interesting new title to launch with. While this is only selling for cover, I’ll be paying attention to see what he comes out with in the future.

FAITHLESS #1 2ndPRINT (BOOM)  – This 2ndprint has sold for $5 and for $10.  There are not many copies listed, though you can find one for a little over cover price.

FAITHLESS #2 (BOOM) – Man, these are some dirty (and creepy) covers. The variant for this is selling for cover price.

RADICALLY RONIN RAGDOLLS ONE SHOT (EASTMAN STUDIOS) – Hey, do what you know best, right?  And Eastman knows how to write creatures that do martial arts.  There’s a TMNT #1 Alan Quah store variant that’s cool and sells for $30, though it also costs $30.  There’s a virgin of that as well.

SECRET LIFE OF PETS #1 (TITAN) – One for the kids.

STAR WARS AOR JABBA THE HUTT #1 (MARVEL) – Folks were reporting that the 1:25 Will Sliney variant was heating up.  I don’t see any signs of that.  It’s selling under ratio for $20.

THESE SAVAGE SHORES #1 4thPRINT, #2 3rdPRINT & #3 2ndPRINT (VAULT) – While these are mostly selling for cover, I really like how these silloutte printings look together.  I might just have to buy a set.  It reminds me of the Marvel 5 Ronin Aja covers or the Massafera Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern variants (see below) where some books just look so darn pretty together and work best in a set.

VAMPBLADE SEASON 4 #1 (ACTION LAB) – Lots of boobs going on here.

VENOM #14 LIM CARNAGE BATTLE LINES VARIANT (MARVEL) – Cool variant.  Love this Carnage.

Just to add, Knights of the Golden Sun #7 and Honor and Curse both have sales above cover.

I don’t read Miles Morales, so I don’t know if they’re intended to be a same character, but a number of years ago, it was established that the Vulture had a granddaughter. Vulture was stealing money because she needed it for a surgery and Spider-man felt guilty after he stopped him. He found out that the waitress at a diner he was regularly going to was mother of Vulture’s granddaughter and he ended up anonymously leaving the money to pay for the surgery.

I don’t recall if the granddaughter ever actually appeared, though, just Vulture’s daughter-in-law. It was early in the Marvel Knights Spider-man run iirc.

Disregard this post, I dug out the issues in question and it turns out that the Vulture said grandson, not granddaughter. So it’s almost assuredly not the same character.

Maybe Vulture needed the money for his grand sons sex change op… lol
