The Weekend After Wednesday for 5/18/19
Want to know which books from Wednesday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 5/15/2019. They could still be at your shop.
MARVEL TALES IRON MAN #1 (MARVEL) – These Bartel 1:50 variants are incredibly hard to find. Her Iron Man virgin variant saw two pre-sales at $79.95 and $170. There are a few auctions currently running, with one already over $100. As Stein mentioned in the TOP 10, the Black Widow variant has cooled down to around $80, though there was one sale of $210 early this week. We’ll check back in on Iron Man next week to see how he’s holding up.
ONE-WEEK LATER UPDATE
FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #6 (MARVEL) – So many of these sold last week. Last week this book was getting $10 to $14. Right now, they dipped a little and now are selling for around $11 to $12 shipped.
WAR OF REALMS NEW AGENTS OF ATLAS #1 (OF 4) ZIRCHER 1:50 & JUN PARK 1:25 VARIANT (MARVEL) – This issue is packed with first appearances, which helped the Zircher 1:50 skyrocket past $200 at one point. Sales are coming back down a bit and have been selling for $170. The Jun Park 1:25 variant was getting up to $70 and now sells for a steady $50. This is a “buy it and forget it book” where you simply file it into your collection and wait until one of these characters become something down the road. You never know. There’s plenty of long-term potential in this book.
WYRD #3 DELL'OTTO VARIANT (DARK HORSE) – Prices definitely dropped from its $20 price tag last week. It now sells for around $10 to $12 with copies available to buy at cover price.
ONE-YEAR LATER UPDATE
WALK THROUGH HELL #1 COVER B “BLACK” VARIANT (AFTERSHOCK) – Last year, this all black B variant was selling well from $13 to $17 shipped. It was the only hot book on the list. Around August 2018, a comic app announced that this title was optioned which quickly turned this into a $30 variant. The rare B&W variant went up to $75. That option never came and the B variant settled back down to cover price and the B&W variant down to $20.
LAST STOP ON RED LINE #1 (DARK HORSE) – Now, don’t go rushing out to grab this, but definitely pay attention to this book. It’s recently started selling for $10 to $15 shipped. The Netflix/Dark Horse deal now brings a certain level of interest in all new/future titles. Keep in mind, there are plenty of copies listed. So, there’s no big rush to grab one. However, there’s definitely some strong possibility of this hitting Netflix at some point.
NAOMI #5 (DC) – Naomi #5 has been one of the most anticipated issues in quite some time. All the buzz and build-up were leading straight to this mystery power/costume reveal. Many stores over ordered with anticipation for this and then reported low turnout. The issue comes with solid reviews too. Was it JUST the fear of missing out/ anticipation of this reveal that has been driving the prices up? Did too many folks get burned buying Blackest Night #7? Or was it just a slow week? As you can see from this week’s list, it’s pretty light. There was nothing to rush out and get. While this issue didn’t get the expected traction, it’s still doing decently and selling for $8 to $11 shipped. Naomi still has plenty of story to tell and future interactions with other DC characters. Her height may be behind us, but shell still do well for quite some time.
ALEXANDRIA OCASIO CORTEZ & FRESHMAN FORCE WHO DIS ONE-SHOT (DEVILS DUE) – With a $5.99 price tag, the current sales of $7.50 to $11 lands this in COOL. I usually don’t cover retailer variants, however it's worth noting that the NY Collector Cave Wonder Woman got a cease and desist letter from DC, causing that variant to jump from $40 to $300.
FATHOM VOL 8 #1 (ASPEN) – While these aren’t selling for anything, Aspen does have an interesting promotion currently running. If you order $25 worth of books, you get a free limited to 250 Fathom variant for this issue.
