The Weekend After Wednesday for 5/11/19

Want to know which books from Wednesday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 5/8/19. They could still be at your shop.

HOT

WAR OF REALMS NEW AGENTS OF ATLAS #1 (OF 4) ZIRCHER 1:50 & JUN PARK 1:25 VARIANT (MARVEL) – Both these variants are the hottest books of the week. It’s packed with first appearances, including Crescent, Io, Luna Snow and Wave. Sword Master is on just the covers. The 1:50 is currently selling for $150 (though it just hit $206 a few minutes ago). The 1:25 sells between $45 to $70. Even the Camuncoli connecting variants is hitting $11 shipped. The most disappointing is the standard cover, which is only selling for cover right now. As mentioned in Stein’s Top 10 this week, stores simply aren’t ordering 50 copies of this book. The 1:50 should go even higher.  There’s plenty of long-term potential in this book. I would hold it… if I had a copy.

WYRD #3 DELL'OTTO VARIANT (DARK HORSE) – This variant appears to be just a B variant for this title. Either way, there aren’t many listed and copies are selling for $20.

ONE-YEAR LATER UPDATE

EXILES #3 PUZZLE QUEST 1:10 PEGGY CARTER VARIANT (MARVEL) Perfectly timed, this variant has been hot since Disney+ announced a WHAT IF? series starting with “What If Peggy Carter was Captain America”. I totally forgot that this was selling for $40-$50 right out the gate last year. It of course dropped, but then bounced right back to $50 with the recent news.

WWE #17 ASUKA 1:15 VIRGIN VARIANT (BOOM)Last year, this hard to find variant was getting $67 shipped. While the Bliss Variant has gone up and completely disappeared, the Asuka variant has a copy currently listed for $35 and is just sitting there. The last sale was back in Feb. for $37.

WARM

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #6 (MARVEL) – This is a fun, cute and a heart-warming story. After you read this, you realize that there’s not much speculation here. I guess Marvel COULD make the character real… but it would take away from the heart of this story. Regardless, this is selling for $10 to $14.

GEARS OF WAR HIVEBUSTERS #1 (IDW) – The 1:10 Droal variant is seeing sales from $15 to $20 shipped.

JUNGLE COMICS #1 DORMAN VIRGIN VARIANT (ANTARTIC PRESS)I absolutely love this variant. With sales hitting $50 to $55 shipped, I made a point to go to my LCS to pick up the copy I saw on the shelf earlier. After getting ringed up for it, the cover price for this variant came up as $35 (plus tax). Apparently, Antarctic Press is now pre-pricing their variants. This strategy is interesting and I’m not quite sure how I feel about it.   With that high price in mind, this is in warm due to more recent $40 sales… which doesn’t leave much profit if you’re looking to sell this right away.

COOL

AFTERBURN CROSSFIRE #1 (RED 5)

BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS #1 (DC)

DETECTIVE COMICS #1003 BROOKS “B” VARIANT (DC) – Arkham Knight's identity is revealed and is actually kind of cool. Also, I love Mark Brooks. Just need to say that.

EVE STRANGER #1 (IDW)

EXCELLENCE #1 (IMAGE)

MARVELS ANNOTATED #3 DELL'OTTO VARIANT (MARVEL)SUCH a great cover, yet this $7.99 priced book is only selling for cover.

METALSHARK BRO #1 (SCOUT) – With very favorable reviews, I think this book could do well long term. It seems perfect for Adult Swim.

MIGHTY MASCOTS #1 (OF 3) (ALTERNA)

RED SONJA VAMPIRELLA BETTY VERONICA #1 (DYNAMITE) – There are some great store exclusives, but I was a disappointed by the inventive variants. I really enjoy Hack’s work, but I didn’t love this 1:40. The feeling is the same for the 1:50 Francavilla variant. I feel like both of these were missed opportunities.

SAMURAI JACK LOST WORLDS #1 (IDW) – The 1:10 is selling for a little over ratio at $15 shipped. I’m just happy to see Samurai Jack back.

STAR WARS AOR BOBA FETT #1 (MARVEL)

THESE SAVAGE SHORES #4 (VAULT) – With so much heat of this book’s previous issues, this was definitely worth checking in on. It’s selling for $11 shipped. However, there are copies available at cover.

THREE STOOGES ASTRO NUTS #1 (AMERICAN MYTHOLOGY)

That Jungle Comics Dorman cover could have been had for $10 through their Indiegogo offering seriously upping your profit margin. 😉
