BENDIS CLEARS UP THE NAOMI MISINFORMATION

Many folks are aware that there was some buzz earlier today due to a post by another spec app “asking” if Action Comics 1002 cover B was the first appearance of Naomi…  Obviously folks rushed to ebay to buy out all cheap copies and replace with high priced copies siting this issue as the first appearance of Naomi…

Well, Bendis has cleared this up for folks.

While copies of Action Comics 1002 cover B should come back down to cover price, this is a much needed reminder for the community, CHECK YOUR SPEC, it is probably better to miss out on a book than it is to rush around buying out books due to FOMO…  It should be noted that even one of the “Big Online Comic Retailers was quick to jack up their price on this issue to 25.00(before the 20% off sale they are running…).

For those who posted in the previous SPEC ALERT post, CBSI Comics appreciates the input, as you can see we have removed that post, as the question has been answered.

For more information on how this played out, you can find the Brian Michael Bendis Tweet Here.

This “other spec app” can be a great tool, but when does it become irresponsible gossip? In all fairness, this is the nature of the spec game. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything, and you gamble at your own risk. The FOMO point is probably the strongest advice here. I just feel like the community is approaching the point of allowing an app to influence the market a bit too much and too often.

Completely agree. I make no judgment about other sites or apps. I do however, as a spec site, feel it necessary to point things out, like “CHECK YOUR SPEC” and reminding people that reacting to a question posed by an app is reckless.

Behavior like this is what will cause folks to walk away from the comic market in general. I understand that a fool and his money blah blah blah, tho it is tough to see the alert that was put out and not cock my head a little in astonishment and wonder…

Thank you for this post Ben. This is a good reminder of where speculation is right now. If there is “no news”, it seems the community in large will find a way to create news or at least ask the question “is this news”? We, as members of the community, need to be smart about what we spread as spec and know that people are listening to our opinions on these matters. I appreciate your message and your quick response to this issue.

Like many things in media, the spec app tries to be first instead of be right. That to me is a big problem. The second is that they are trying to make a spec out of anything, even the smallest things. Don’t get me wrong, I think they are a decent resource for comic collector’s but in order to provide content for the subscribers, which is what gives him money, the “app” can get out of control at times. Collector’s need to be cautious and not fall for every single alert that comes.

clutching at straws to make money ….its even disgusting to assume one child of colour looks similar to another

What’s worse, about 6 or 8 poor souls bought AC 1002 between 18 and 30$.

    Ouch!

That app is becoming the go to for ‘fake comic news,’ lol.

My mantra is becoming, “When everything is a key, nothing is a key.”

I am with you to a point my friend. I have stuck to the true blue chips over the last 5 years. I have come into a lot of hot for a minute books, but almost all got traded or sold and put towards blue chips…

Growing tired of everything ever is a key, tho I think Moff is also spot on with the statement of to assume a child of color is naomi, basically because they want it to be, and then to play it off as a “question” is more insulting. Own your statements. …

Great point with your mantra. Huge point, actually. I feel like this severe case of FOMO has really only been escalated over the past few months. I wasn’t using the app until I met the guy at C2E2 and he made it sound interesting. Nothing against him, guns don’t fire themselves, but we as a community really need to rein this in. The contrast to a site like CBSI and that app is CBSI has community input, the app doesn’t. So there’s no “policing”, so to speak, to temper the initial freak out. The app is missing perspective.
