The Weekend After Wednesday for 4/13/19

Want to know which books from Wednesday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 4/10/19. They could still be at your shop.

HOT

AGE OF X-MAN APOCALYPSE AND X-TRACTS #2 1:25 MOMOKO VARIANT (MARVEL) – This may be a tepid hot, however it's selling over ratio at $30 to $35.  I'm not sure the long-term potential of this variant.  It depends how well received these new characters are down the road.  I definitely like Momoko's style though.

IMMORTAL HULK #2 4TH PRINT (MARVEL) This is selling for $10 to $15, which also pushes this into the tepid HOT range.  IMMORTAL #2 is the crème de la crème of IMMORTAL books.  So, I’m not surprised to see additional interest in this new printing.  Collectors and sellers are building IMMORTAL HULK sets.  Also, many of us “late to the party” comic folk have been priced out of the first print for issue #2 and have to settle for these subsequent printings.  There was also a 3rdprint for issue #4, 5 & 6.  All are selling for cover price.  #6 3rdprint has a new cover with Captain Marvel and several other Marvel superheroes on the front.  I don’t think it’ll have legs, but notable nonetheless.

MARVEL TALES THANOS #1 1:50 BARTEL VARIANT (MARVEL) It’s pretty easy to say that there aren’t many of these Bartel virgin variants for the Marvel Tales line.  Past variants, like BLACK WIDOW, have proven that even with high sales, not many come to market.  There was definitely more attention for this Thanos variant and therefore seem to have more copies listed.  However, this 1:50 variant is still selling for a consistent $150.  A ONE-YEAR LATER look at this title will be fun to see.

WEB OF VENOM CULT OF CARNAGE #1 1:50 DELL’OTTO (MARVEL) You would think the market would be tired of Dell’Otto Venom covers, but then he went and made a fricking awesome cover like this.  I absolutely love it.  It’s selling for $54 to $70, dependent on condition.

ONE-WEEK LATER UPDATE

AMBER BLAKE #1 1:10 NODET VARIANT (IDW) This magazine sized variant proved to be impossible to find last week and is still the case this week.  As Ben mentioned in the TOP 10 this week, it’s now selling for $100 and is only 2 copies away from completely disappearing off of eBay.

IMMORTAL HULK #16 (MARVEL) BENNETT 1:25 VARIANT (MARVEL) This “only a mother could love” variant hit a height last Wednesday at $175.95 for a raw copy and settled mostly to $100.  Surprisingly, it’s holding much better then I thought at $80.

MAJOR X #1 (OF 6) 1:25 PORTACIO VARIANT (MARVEL) Last week, this was selling for $60.  All of us got a little excited to chase it down.  And THEN people read it.  It’s still doing well and selling for $50.  There’s definitely still some short AND long term potential.  While Mr. Liefeld created Deadpool, a lot of the credit for making Deadpool who he is today (the fast talking “comedic” anti-hero) goes to Joe Kelly and his late 90’s run.  Maybe Major X could have that same golden touch by another writer down the road.

ONE-YEAR LATER UPDATE

DUCKTALES #8 1:10 FLINTHEART VARIANT (IDW) These 1:10 DUCKTALES variants were sure bets last year, with this being the ONLY hot book one year ago.  It was selling for $23 and now sits frozen with $14.99 asking prices.

WARM

DETECTIVE COMICS #1001 (DC) People are touting this at the “first full appearance of Arkham Knight”.  I guess the subtext would be “in current DC continuity”.  I would expect Batman: Arkham Knight #1 to be the first full appearance.  Regardless, this is warm and selling for $10 shipped mixed with cover price sales.

FAITHLESS #1 (OF 5) (BOOM) Wow… many were a little surprised when they opened their blind bad Tula Lotay variant to see this graphic (yet well done) cover.  It’s VERY adult and downright BOUNDLESS COMICS level (though with better art).  It’s “a lot”, but probably far less then the 2017 controversial SAVAGE DRAGON #225 variant (which shockingly now sells for $20 to $40).  There’s been some… err… growing interest in this and several of the other covers.  This variant ranges from cover price to $10.  The Bermejo Variant is selling a little over cover.  The Andolfo exclusive virgin variant (Limited to 500) is doing the best at $45 and is still NSFW, but far less graphic.  And yeah, you’re going to have to look these covers up on your own.  Or, click the NSFW eBay link.

SOURCE #3 (SCOUT) While this can be purchased for cover price, I was surprised to see this selling with multiple sales ranging from $7 to $10.  The cheap copies are drying up quick.  This appears to be a hard to find book for a series that is getting good reviews.

COOL

COLD BLOOD SAMURAI #1 (ACTION LAB)

DIE #4 2NDPRINT (IMAGE) With so many re-prints for this series, I put this on just to check in on it.  It’s selling for cover.

DISNEY INCREDIBLES 2 SECRET IDENTITIES #1 (OF 3) (DARK HORSE)

FAIRLADY #1 (IMAGE) The Tula Lotay variant is seeing some higher then cover price sales.  It’s nothing notable yet, but one to watch (especially if her FAITHLESS cover continues to do well).

KISS END #1 (DYNAMITE)

LADY DEATH (ONGOING) #25 (COFFIN) Diamond released a whole TON of Lady Death variants this week… not new stuff, but just a bunch of various issues and covers.  It’s amazing how many variants Coffin does for Lady Death.  There is a fan base there for this stuff.

LITTLE BIRD #1 (OF 5) 2NDPRINT (IMAGE) I like this book a lot and this 2ndprint variant is my favorite cover between the various covers.  I missed this on the shelves this week, but will definitely pick one up (it’s selling for cover price).

PUNCHLINE #1 2ND PTG (AFTERSHOCK) Wow, this took a while to come out.  I like this series as well.  It’s a fun read.  It’s very reminiscent of a female version of INVINCIBLE.  This issue is seeing mostly cover price sales, with some hitting $11 shipped.

RED HOOD OUTLAW #33 PARRILLO “B” VARIANT (DC) I love this Skeletor variant.  Yes, I see everything with the lens of MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE.  He has muscles? Check. Sword?  Check.  Skull face? Triple check.  Then it’s Skeletor.

ROCKY BULLWINKLE BEST BORIS NATASHA #1 (AMERICAN MYTHOLOGY)

STAR WARS AOR GRAND MOFF TARKIN #1 (MARVEL)

STAR WARS AOR PRINCESS LEIA #1 (MARVEL)

SYMBIOTE SPIDER-MAN #1 (MARVEL) Most of these variants are selling well under ratio.  This is especially the case for Artgerm’s 1:200 virgin variant, which is selling for $100 to $150.  The 1:100 McFarlane Hidden Gem variant is close to ratio at $75 to $80.  Which such a massive fan base for McFarlane’s Spidey run, this cover was greatly disappointing.  A new McFarlane Spidey variant could have been a slam-dunk for variant collectors, and this just wasn’t nearly as good as it should have been.

WAR OF REALMS JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #1 (OF 5) (MARVEL)

WONDER WOMAN #68 ANDREWS “B” VARIANT (DC) Kaare Andrews is an artist that should be on your list.  His variant for this issue is great.  This is definitely one to pick up for it’s current going rate of cover price.

ZORRO LEGENDARY ADVENTURES BOOK 2 #1 (AMERICAN MYTHOLOGY)

Does anyone have a link to the full Faithless Lotay NSFW cover? I actually bought a copy, and do not want to have to open it just because Boom will literally not release an image anywhere.
