The Weekend After Wednesday for 4/5/2019

Want to know which books from Wednesday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 4/3/2019. They could still be at your shop.

HOT

AMBER BLAKE #1 1:10 NODET VARIANT (IDW) – This magazine sized variant is impossible to find.  Hence, it’s selling for $50 has been mostly cleared from ebay.  Up next is a $70 copy, which I’m guessing will be gone before you even read this.  Magazine sized variants don’t tend to hold value well.  However, this might have some legs.

IMMORTAL HULK #16 (MARVEL) BENNETT 1:25 VARIANT (MARVEL) – I will definitely admit that I’m not a fan of this cover.  This is especially the case when it’s closed and you’re just looking at the Hulk and note the full wraparound.  This hit a height on Wednesday at $175.95 for a raw copy.  Prices have settled mostly to $100, though several have sold for less between $60 to $80.  The 2nd print of this variant seems to be selling for the same price, which probably cannibalized sales.  The standard issue is selling for cover price.

MAJOR X #1 (OF 6) 1:25 PORTACIO VARIANT (MARVEL) – Well, like it or not, Major X is hot right now.  This variant is selling for $60 and even the first print is selling for $8 to $9 shipped.  Obviously, the focus right now is on Spider-Man/Deadpool #47, which is the first appearance of Major X (sorry Rob).

ONE-YEAR LATER UPDATE

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #798 1:100 ROSS VIRGIN VARIANT (MARVEL) – Last year, this 1:100 virgin variant was selling for $110 to $143.  Today, you can have a CGC 9.8 copy for a little less.  Raw copies sell between $30 to $45.  That’s a pretty steep fall and a reminder to just be patient and wait for the variant you want at these MUCH lower prices.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG #1 1:100 VARIANT (IDW) This 1:100 was selling last year for $144.  Right now, you can buy them for $20.  So why the drop?  A 1:100 IDW book should be SUPER rare.  However, for some reason, copies were popping up everywhere, bringing a small flood to the market and popping that balloon rather quickly.  Good news is, this was a great reminder for me to buy one.  There is a Sonic movie coming (however, the film design has me a little nervous about that).

VENOMIZED #1 DELL’OTTO 1:50 & 1:25 VARIANT (MARVEL) – Remember “Booty” Venom?!  I totally forgot about this.  The bootylicious 1:50 Dell”Otto was selling for a steady $60 and now can be purchased for $16 or less. The 1:25 was selling for $18 shipped and now sells for $14, which is a tad of a better hold.

WARM

MARVEL TEAM-UP #1 1:50 MEDINA VARIANT (MARVEL) – Is doing good.  It’s selling at ratio, with some sales going a little over.  It has Spidey and Kamala.  This should hold for a while.

COOL

BLOOD REALM VOL 2 #1 (OF 3) (ALTERNA)

BRONZE AGE BOOGIE #1 (AHOY)

CURSE WORDS SPRING HAS SPRUNG SPEC CVR A BROWNE (ONE-SHOT) (IMAGE)

DANGER GIRL DANGEROUS VISIONS 3-D (IDW)

DIE #5 (IMAGE) – While this isn’t doing much now, the MACK variant has promise.  Every issue for this series is selling and going back to additional prints.  Variants, like this one, could get lost in the mix and see interest later on.

HELLCHILD BLOOD MONEY #1 (OF 4) (ZENESCOPE)

JIM HENSON STORYTELLER SIRENS #1 (BOOM!) – Gorgeous main cover.

MARVEL ACTION BLACK PANTHER SAMU #1 (IDW)

MARVEL SUPER HEROES ADVENTURES SPIDER-MAN WEB DESIGNERS #1 (MARVEL)

OBEY ME #1 (DYNAMITE)

ROCKOS MODERN AFTERLIFE #1 (BOOM!)

SECTION ZERO #1 (OF 6) (IMAGE)

STILETTO #1 OFFICER DOWN (OF 3) (LION FORGE)

WAR OF REALMS #1 (OF 6) (MARVEL) – While the Campbell cover is definitely selling a LOT of copies, it’s still holding at cover price.  None of the other variants seem to be doing anything notable.  The 1:500 and 1:200 remastered covers have hit ratio in several sales and current listings are well above ratio.  We’ll see how those do.

Can someone shed light on the Major X 1st appearance. I read Spider-Man/Deadpool 47 and can’t see this guy, albeit I read the digital copy, so is it a preview

He’s in the background of the page 3 flashback. Right below a falling Bruce. I’d post a picture of I could. For what it’s worth to me it’s not really a first appearance. It’s about the about the equivalent to the cosplayers as Spider-Gwen in Hawkeye/Deadpool 0

Let’s not call a cameo a first appearance, even if it is funny to wind up Rob.

Yeah, I gotta say if SD47 is Major X’s first appearance then Avengers #682 is DEFINITELY Immortal Hulk’s first appearance and not #684. nah mean?

The one year later should be a lesson to anyone who spends well over ratio for any incentives. Just about All of them can be had for well under ratio if you just wait out the FOMO period.

There are always exceptions, but those usually are first appearances of characters that catch people by surprise.
