The Weekend After Wednesday for 3/2/19
Want to know which books from Wednesday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 2/27/19. They could still be at your shop.
HONOR AND CURSE #1 (OF 6) (MAD CAVE)– This new title from Mad Cave Studios is selling of $20 on average. There was one recent sale of $12 shipped, and there’s a new listing at $14 shipped. So, sales are coming down a bit. With indie titles like this, those $20 sales are brining more copies to the market, which then floods and brings the price down. So, if you’re looking to buy copies to flip, it’ll be too late. However, for now… it’s hot.
OLD LADY HARLEY #5 (OF 5)– This issue marks the first appearance of Old Man Joker and Joker Jr. (Joker’s son) and is now selling for $16 to $20. The market is already flooding with copies, so lets see how this holds up. I expect it to settle to $10.
ROSE #17 JEFF SHULTZ CALVIN & HOBBES VARIANT (IMAGE) – I, like many buying this homage variant, am a huge Calvin & Hobbes fan. This is a fantastic cover and totally flew under my radar this week. I’m sure plenty of others were all over this. It was selling for $13 to $20 and then just made to jump to $30 last night. There are multiple auctions with active bidders, so it’ll be interesting to see where those go.
STEVEN UNIVERSE #25 BARTEL VARIANT (BOOM)– I love Jen Bartel. While I’m not chasing this one down, it is gorgeous. It’s selling for $16 shipped and is showing signs of jumping up in price as copies dry up.
LAST WEEK UPDATE
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #2 1:25 SCALERA VARIANT (MARVEL) – Prices are still bouncing around from $22.50 to $43 this week. It’s been pretty inconsistent from one sale to the next.
ONE-YEAR LATER UPDATE
AVENGERS INFINITY WAR PRELUDE #2 (OF 2) (MARVEL) – Last year Prelude #1 was quietly selling for $20+. This 2nd issue's price was averaging $10. Prelude #1 filled in some of the holes leading up to the bonus “White Wolf” credit scene at the end of the BLACK PANTHER film. A year later, I expected these to be almost worthless. However, that’s not the case. Sets with both #1 & #2 are still selling for $28 to $35 shipped. Individually, #1 sells for about $15 and #2 sells for about $10 shipped.
DUCKTALES #6 1:10 LAUNCHPAD DESIGN VARIANT (IDW) – Last year, this hit a height of $36. Currently, copies are sitting at $20 and not selling.
PETER PARKER SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #300 1:50 ALEX ROSS VARIANT (MARVEL) – One year ago, NM copies were selling for $70. Today, it sells at ratio for $50 shipped. Strangely, CGC 9.8’s sell for $62 to $90.
SPAWN #283 MATTINA “A” & “B” COVERS (IMAGE) – These Mattina variants caused quite a stir last year as pre-sales were hitting heights of $45 for the set and $30 for the color cover. Upon release, copies flooded the market and immediately brought sets to $20, and the individual covers to $10-$12 (favoring the color cover). Today, the color cover sells for $7-$10 shipped and the B&W sells for $8 shipped.
X-MEN BLUE #22 1:50 NAKAYAMA VARIANT (MARVEL) – Wow, I completely forgot about this variant. Riding on the coat tails of the #21 Hans Variant, pre-sales went a little nuts for this variant. At a height of $178.99, this had a hard fall to $40 on release day. But then it rebounded up to $70. Today, copies are all sitting at $50+. There hasn’t been a sale for a while, except for a CGC 9.8 SS that sold for $102.
AGE OF X-MAN X-TREMISTS #1 (OF 5) (MARVEL) – The 1:50 Lupacchino Variant is selling at ratio. I can’t imagine many stores ordered 50 copies of the regular issue. It’s a good cover, but I don’t think it’ll have legs.
VENOM #10 2ND PRINT (MARVEL) – I’m surprised more people are talking about this 2ndprint. I like it.
*WHAT I BOUGHT THIS WEEK: Nada. I spent the week still hunting down a reasonably priced DIE #1 and really trying to track a copy of the impossible to find SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE ART OF MAKING THE FILM Limited Edition (with TRUE TALES OF SPIDER-MAN comic book).
