Rai #0 Glossy Variant

HEAT CHECK STATUS: radioactive

This book is absolutely on fire. There has been no recent news on the Bloodshot movie front, so is it valiant fanboys that are gobbling this up? Not like Vin Diesel could move the needle, which begs the question, who is buying it…recent raw sales almost hitting $100, with 9.8s going for $400-$500.

The Umbrella Academy: Dallas #1 Lee Variant

HEAT CHECK STATUS: pepperpepperpepperpepper

Tons of Umbrella Academy books are selling, but this one stood out because of the Jim Lee cover. This book sold for $10 less than 2 weeks ago, and now it’s selling for $30-50, with a 9.8 going for $145 and a Lee SS 9.8 going for $300!

X-23 #1 Oum SDCC Variant

HEAT CHECK STATUS: pepperpepperpepper

I’m not sure what to make of it, because this book was left for dead, barely selling for $30. A recent sale for $50 started an upward trajectory that saw two raw copies sell for $100 and $130, and a 9.8 almost hit $600. The market has definitely dried up, so not a bad time to sell.

ComicsPRO Variants

HEAT CHECK STATUS: pepperpepperpepper

The ComicsPRO meeting wrapped up on Saturday, and of course the variants starting hitting the web soon after. Daredevil and Hellboy appear to be the early winners, hitting around $40. I can only think of two that have held value (Silk and Gideon Falls) so tread lightly.

Great choices this week. I actually expected to see X-23 #4 Djurdevic variant from the 2010 series on here with that raw copy selling for $200. That is easily the rarest variant from that run, maybe the rarest X-23 variant out there. Of course a few big boys sold on the week- A blue label 9.8 Batman 608RRP sold for $5k, a raw ASM 678 Venom sold for over $3k and a RAW ASM 667 Dell’otto sold for $8500 (!).

I gotta think that the majority of Valiant fanboys have had RAI 0 in their fallout bunkers for years. A few of the sales may be them, but it’s genuinely a good read, with a solid publisher leading character, and like him or not, Diesel is a hype machine and has a massive fan base. My guess is you’re seeing a lot of those fans who also collect comics grabbing those.

Regarding Rai 0, I think a lot of people are betting the Bloodshot movie is going to be a hit due to a few reasons; Movie has already finished filming and Dinesh was involved. And mainly, an Academy award winning script writer wrote the script. (I consider the script to be the most important aspect of a good movie)

    I keep saying it…
    X-23 SDCC 9.8 unicorn
There have been a few but these things are BRUTAL. Good luck to all trying to get a 9.8. $600 is not shocking to me at all. Classic homage and difficult book in 9.8. Perfect mix.

How is it difficult to find that new X 23 variant in a 9.8? It’s only been out a few months and already has 12 graded 9.8’s, and that was before this little price spike. Expect plenty more to follow.

Referring you back to the X 23 (2010) #4 Djurdjevic variant which has never been cheap (that raw copy just sold for $200 on ebay) and has only EIGHT 9.8’s on the census after 8 YEARS. And mind you, not a single submitted copy has managed to get a 9.8 in nearly 3 of those eight years. Lol. :0!

        A few months?
Been 10 months and 12 9.8s on a book given out to quite a few people at the largest convention. I don’t doubt that whatever book you are discussing is tough and clearly rare, but the 1:25 does make for less copies so less 9.8s one would think. A larger printed giveaway book at one time with only 12 as you stated in 9.8 with plenty of lesser grades listed on eBay over the months.
I think they are 2 different things entirely but that’s the beauty of it.
I’ll have to look for the book you speak of. And I really don’t think we are going to see a spike in the SDCC version. That’s an average of a little over 1 per month, and the longer out we go the odds of picking up a high grade off eBay are lower and lower.
        Random thoughts.

It’s usually never a good idea to assume that a book that’s just come out a matter of months ago is “rare” or hard to find, in 9.8 or otherwise. Granted, the X 23 (2010) #4 variant is an extreme example, but after 8 years it is safe to say it is legitimately rare.

You can’t say that about a book after only 8 months.
