The Weekend After Wednesday for 2/23/19

Want to know which books from Wednesday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 2/20/19. They could still be at your shop.

HOT

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #2 1:25 SCALERA VARIANT (MARVEL) – This was a pretty light week and here’s the only HOT book.  It’s been bouncing around from $35 to $55 all week.  It’s been pretty inconsistent from one sale to the next.  The most recent sales have been for $40 shipped.

LAST WEEK UPDATE

AVENGERS NO ROAD HOME #1 (OF 10) HUGHES 1:50 VARIANT (MARVEL) – Still holding at $75 shipped.

CAPTAIN MARVEL #2 BACHALO 1:50 VARIANT (MARVEL) – This book was a surprise drop this week.  It fell from a height of $119.95 last week to its current $52 to $70.

DEAD MAN LOGAN #4 (OF 12) ZAFFINO 1:25 VARIANT (MARVEL) – Selling for a steady $60/$70 shipped, many came to market with the heat.   It saw a slight dip to $50 to $60 shipped.

EXCITING COMICS #1 SPEEDWAY VARIANT (ANTARTIC PRESS) – The SPEEDWAY variant is still doing the best.  It had a retail price of $19.99, limited to 300 copies and dropped from $50 to now $30.

MARVEL TALES BLACK WIDOW #1 1:50 BARTEL VIRGIN VARIANT (MARVEL) – Last week, there was only one (US) sale for $114.  It was my favorite book of the week and impossible to find (yes, I still don’t have a copy).  That seems to still be the case.  Only 5 more have been listed since last week.  Those sold for $225, $224.99 & $249.99.   There are only two copies listed in auctions, each over $165+ and with a couple days left to go.

HOT – THIS TIME LAST YEAR

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #796 (MARVEL) – If you can recall this book from last year, it was the one that spurred a large debate over Red Goblin’s first appearance.   Regardless of the debate, this was selling for $20 shipped. When news trickled in the day of release about this issue NOT containing a full appearance, it then dropped to about $12+shipping.  And then…. it jumped right back up to $20. One year later it’s still selling for $15 to $20.

WARM

AVENGERS #15 PAREL CAPTAIN MARVEL VARIANT (MARVEL) – Great cover and selling for $10 shipped.

HIGH LEVEL #1 (DC) – The Francesco B variant is selling for $10 to $11 shipped.

HULKVERINES #1 (OF 3) (MARVEL) – I’m really not a fan of the name of this book… but I digress.  The 1:25 Cory Smith variant is selling for ratio at $25 shipped.

PUNCHLINE #4 (ANTARTIC PRESS) – One seller has been selling this consistently at $16 shipped (though there are cheaper ones available at $8 shipped.  The Valentine’s Day Red Foil did see one sale at $45.  There are also cheaper copies available of this.  Antarctic has listed these on their site as well.

VENOM #11 GIBBONS WATCHMEN HOMAGE VARIANT (MARVEL) – Here’s another $10 shipped book this week.

COOL

CRACKDOWN #1 (DYNAMITE)

DIE #1 3RD PTG (IMAGE) – With all the heat of DIE #1 first print, there’s some potential with this print.

INCURSION #1 (VALIANT)

LOVE ROMANCES #1 DAUTERMAN YOUN GUNS VARIANT (MARVEL) – The variant is selling between $7 to $10 shipped.  It’s a nice/ classic cover.  I can see this go up at some point in the future.

NIGHTWING #57 (DC)

SHARKEY BOUNTY HUNTER #1 (OF 6) (IMAGE)

STRONGHOLD #1 (AFTERSHOCK)

VENOM #11 GIBBONS WATCHMEN HOMAGE VARIANT (MARVEL)

WULFBORNE #1 (SCOUT)

ZODIAC #1 (ZENESCOPE)

IMO, the Scalera GotG variant is forgettable. The art is good, no doubt, but it doesn’t do anything that previous Cosmic Ghost Rider covers haven’t already done. Long-term, I’d think this week’s Parel Cap. Marvel and the Venom homage are more likely to be sought after down the road. Just my worthless 2-cents.

Great job on this, as always. Thanks for the hard work every week.

I’d classify the Solo #5 Forbes variant as being hot as well selling in the $45-60 range. With Game of Thrones close to being back, this book could hold or climb based on who’s on the cover.

Great article as always! FYI, you have the Venom #11 Gibbons variant in both the Warm and Cool buckets.
