Dollar Bin Digging 23

Marvel Age #104

This is just a fun cover that I grab whenever I find it. Yes, I admittedly have an affinity for Jim Lee and will grab most of his books when I find them in the dollar bins regardless of how many copies I already own. Some might call it a compulsion.

That said, most folks ignore the old Marvel Age books since they were more like Previews than anything else. But ignoring these books would be a mistake as there are quite a few worth picking up for 1st looks at new characters, like Darkhawk in #97 or the 1st symbiote Spider-Man black suit preview from Marvel Age #12. Other times it may just be a unique cover like the Stan Lee issue #41 or this issue where Jim Lee and Scott Williams gave us themselves and some great X-men 90s awesomeness.

Uncanny X-Men #275277

I usually don’t cover multiple books like this, but on a day spotlighting Jim Lee & Scott Williams, I figure an exception can be made. These two working together are like peanut butter and chocolate. Perfection.

Let’s not forget Chris Claremont, who wrote us a classic cosmic adventure for our merry mutants. Perhaps Disney will lean this way when they bring the X-Men back to distance themselves from what Fox already covered. This Shiar storyline involved the Starjammers, Imperial Guard, and introduced the Warskrulls. Could be good tie-in’s to what they are doing in the MCU now. All that and iconic covers. Deal.

So until next time, remember while you dig that…

“It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard… is what makes it great.” – Jimmy Dugan
