Indie Spotlight 14

Hello everyone and welcome back. There is awesome material releasing this week! Some niche books, some highly anticipated reads and some titles with HUGE fanbases! There’s a little something for everyone, so let’s jump right in……..

Oliver 1 – Image Comics

I personally have been waiting on this one since I saw it in previews and apparently I’m not alone. Award winning screenwriter Gary Whitta puts a new spin on Charles Dickens literary masterpiece Oliver Twist. Oliver is now a superhero orphan in a post apocalyptic world who is struggling to find his way.  I can't wait to read this one and see how the new story plays out as well as what similarities it has to the original. I believe this one screams movie down the road. Long term hold in my opinion.

Lady Death Hellraiders 1 – Coffin Comics

Huge following on this series and great cover art are the two big draws for me here. Created by Brian Pulido, Lady Death first appeared in Evil Ernie 1 in 1991 and started to develop a cult like following since then, even being the subject of an animated film. This week her new one shot series will release with a Bombshell cover that is very eye catching to say the least. I'm going out on a limb here after seeing the success of Rags 1 cover and White Widow last week and making this my pick of the week. Sales for this Bombshell variant have been strong so far and I expect them to continue.

Blossoms 666 #1

New horror series from Archie Comics written by the fantastic Cullen Bunn. The story premise is two seemingly normal kids who are fighting for the title of Antichrist behind closed doors. I love Bunn’s writing and after the success of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina from Archie comics I wouldn't overlook this one.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer 1 – Boom Studios

Another title with a huge following!  Buffy The Vampire Slayer is getting a reboot that will be written by Jordie Bellaire.  Josh Weldon, the original creator, will be a consultant on this series as they promise to follow the original basis but give it some new twists that will bring it more into 2019. This book is already sold out at distribution and all parties involved have major ties to FOX.  Don't overlook this one on Wednesday.

Turnbuckle Titans 1 Nikolai Volkoff – Antarctic Press

I am very anxious to get my hands on this book to see how it's all put together. I love the idea and hope others do as well. The book is said to be based on interviews and intimate conversations between the writer, John Crowther, and the Croatian legend himself, Volkoff. I think this one will be tough to find so you may  not want to pass it up if you see it for cover price. Hope this one does well and they continue the series with other wrestlers!

Worth A Read

Die 1 – Image Comics

I honestly went into this one with some apprehension because I heard it was a Dungeon and Dragonish type story. I walked away from it wanting more!  I will tell you first hand that you don't have to be into that genre to LOVE this book! It follows a group of kids at a 16th birthday party who embark on an adventure/ role play game that none have bargained for. By the time the game is over two years have passed, one of them is missing, one is physically scarred for life and they are all changed forever.  But that's just the start! The last three pages shows you that there is even more to the story than just the GAME ……Highly Recommended!!!
