“Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night, it's only right
To think about the girl you love and hold her tight
So happy together
If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me and ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be, so very fine
So happy together
I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me, baby the skies i'll be blue
For all my life”
Greetings from the desert fellow CBSI members. The new year is in full swing, and so is the comic business. There is not much down time anymore, sure sales or Cons slow a bit, but this has become a 365 24/7 biz. No rest for the weary huh? Well, that’s where we are now, and this is not changing anytime soon. It should be an interesting ride this year, glad we are all on board.
So what does this 1967 smash hit shown above Happy Together have with comics? Well, it’s the song that immediately goes to mind when I think of in terms of the marriage between Andy Kubert and the Batman Universe. There are a million analogies I can come up with like peanut butter and jelly, Yin to Yang, cheese and wine, Hell even these guys right?!
Okay maybe not the eternally pissed off dude with the hockey mask, but you get the point!
Mr. Kubert’s has the amazing talent & scope to create Bats and Co. in some of their greatest glory spanning multiple covers. Let’s look at a few of these, including some HTF Variants…
Alright time to warm up with the two books that are household covers. These look familiar?
Now we move into the second vol of Batman and an amazing Variant run.
Amazing stuff huh? Have fun finding those 1:25s in NM+ condition that won’t cost you a few bucks.
Alight moving right along, are you a fan of sketches that are high ratio variants? Well, check out these bad boys.
I am sure many of you have those lying between your seat cushions correct? Hey show em, if you got em.
This next batch are more examples of Andy’s impeccable ability to get these characters right in their surroundings.
Any of these books got you scouring eBay with your PayPal ready to burn a hole in your pocket?
Here are some one offs of different covers that are worth grabbing if you see them out in the wild.
Well that wraps this up folks. As you can see Andy Kubert draws the Batman Universe extremely well. We have not even touched his other DC work, or Marvel. We will leave that for another time. Once again, thanks for reading and please feel free to show off some of your favorite covers too!
Oh one more thing. In speaking of Yin & Yang, 80s kids remember this?! I played the hell out of the Nintendo game and rocked the clothes too.
