Indie Spotlight Series 11

I want to start by saying I hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas and New Years Eve. I'm sure there are a ton of people reading this article with massive hangovers! I will be right there with you.   As for comics coming out this week there are definitely some to look out for but as a whole it should be an easy week on the wallet. Let's get to it.

Knights of the Golden Sun 2

Mad Cave Studios

Knights of the Golden Sun 1 was a huge hit for Mad Cave Studios. Written by Mark London and art by Mauricio Villarreal this is an epic biblical tale that will have you on the edge of your seat. I can't say enough about the art in this book.

This is Mauricio Villarreal’s first work in the comic industry and in my eyes he is one to watch! His art is simply mind blowing. Mark my words, in years to come he will be compared with the greats! I believe this series will have staying power spec wise as well.

Issue 1 is a $20 to $30 book and is super hard to find! With a print run of somewhere around 1000 it's no wonder why! Don't miss grabbing this book if you see it! I have been able to read issue 2 courtesy of Mad Cave Studios and you WON’T be disappointed!

I expect that this issue will heat up like the first on the aftermarket as well. With all that being said, this is my PICK OF THE WEEK!

Project Superpowers 5

Dynamite Entertainment

Mattina fans get ready! I’d venture to say this is his best kept secret and the cover is by far the most outstanding yet.  This series is also a solid read as it is an homage to the golden age of superheros and even brings a few back!

There is a 1:10 virgin variant that is absolutely stunning and is already selling out everywhere. I will be looking for the ratio variant but also picking up the trade dressed cover A. One of my favorite Mattina covers to date. This should do very well on the aftermarket!

Halo Lone Wolf 1

Dark Horse Comics

I went to college in the early 2000’s and the Halo video game was a staple.  I would bet many growing up during that time could totally relate and that's why this book has my attention.

The first comic series did well and some issues heated up for a while before falling back to earth, while some remain hot today. This title has a huge following and I expect this comic to follow a similar path as the Life is Strange comic on the aftermarket.

Decent sales already tell me that there is definitely some interest on this one.

Middlewest 1 second print

Image Comics

I'm a sucker for second prints of a great book when they have new cover art with this being no exception. If you have not read this book yet I highly recommend it!

Skottie Young has done an excellent job of building this world and I love the characters in it as well. Not sure if this one will heat up, but it will definitely have a smaller print run than the first issue and I am grabbing it for a long term hold.

The Whispering Dark 3

Dark Horse Comics

A surprising series to say the least as this is one that will get your brain going and scare the hell out of you at the same time. I'm really enjoying this faith based horror story so far and can't wait for this issue. I put this on the list because it is a very hard book to find copies of.

Also, I believe the people that get the whole run and hold on to them will be in the catbird seat in the end. This book screams movie to me so far and if it keeps it up I think it will happen.

*** Worth A Read ***

I don't usually talk about TPB but there is one releasing this week that is definitely worth taking a look at. Midnight Task Force from Mad Cave Studios is a epic story and the art is once again off the chain!

Mad Cave is producing some quality titles right now with some outstanding art that everyone should be paying attention to!  This series has been described as A Beautiful Mind meets Blade Runner and is one of my personal favorites.

Be sure and look for it this Wednesday!

Great article!! You nailed it. I’m loving Knights of the Golden Sun….not sure if it’s been talked about, but there’s also a Retailer’s Preview….there’s only 1 listed on ebay right now in auction form

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/382698584419?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

….this is shaping up to be a hot series and hopefully the creators have a long story arc planned!! Will definitely try your other picks too!!

Thank you !!!!!! Yea I hit on that preview when #1 came out. I def think that will be the copy that demands the most value! I think that auction is up to 25bucks last I checked. The full issue one had two sales yesterday for 29 and 39 bucks as well.

I think you will be very happy with the story arc! So far I have seen 6 covers so I know there’s at least that many! Great story and art!

    Thank you again for reading!

I’ve got 3 copies of KotGS #1 and I got #2. I’ll never sell them though cause I’m a hoarder. Haha The story so far is awesome though and yeah, art = mind explosion. Look out for that KotGS #5 has a beautiful cover featuring Azreal.
