Paging Mr. Miles Morales…
“Paging Mr. Miles Morales, you are wanted by half the civilized world for an interview regarding your upcoming movie premiere.”
Greetings from the desert fellow CBSI members. We are on the doorstep of the latest Spider-Man movie hitting theaters. Yet, this one feels a little different doesn’t it? New characters, different animation, and a lot of critical buzz. This seems to be anchored by Miles Morales. Who makes his 1st appearance in the above shown Ultimate Fallout # 4 in 2011. It’s safe to say he will be cemented in the mainstream world post release of this flick. With all of this, I thought it was a good time to look at the artist who helped create him and her respective covers, Sara Pichelli. Furthermore, a run of books that may be worth putting in the ole PC.
Sara Pichelli is an Italian artist who co created Miles with writer Brian Michael Bendis. She began her career as a storyboard artist in animation. Ironically, she joined Marvel in 2008 working on NYX: No Way Home with writer Marjorie M. Liu of Monstress. Wow, talk about some talent on a book! Strange it was not received better?! Anyways, after a brief stint on Marvel’s Namora, she was hired as the lead artist on the series Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man. Here’s a look at her cover art work which helped her win the Eagle Award for favorite newcomer artist.

This is a Top 5 GHOST Variant
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Vol 2 # 17
Alright, there it is there! As you can see Sara has drawn a lot of Miles Morales covers since inception, and in addition shows range on other characters as well. She will always obtain credit for being the co creator artistically of Miles Morales, but believe me she is just getting started! In addition, I am really digging that Euro Variant for Iron Man # 9 above. You don’t see those everyday. She really shows a lot of range. Sara Pichelli is a excellent artist. We have not spoken much about her here on CBSI, but let’s hope that changes. It’s great to see a woman with her talent get the credit she deserves.
