Dollar Bin Digging 14

Aquaman #6

With Amazon Prime members getting a sneak peek at Aquaman this weekend, I thought it was a good time to look at some cheap books from the depths of the long boxes.

Even though he first appeared nearly 30 years previous, it wasn’t until this issue in 1993 that we finally got a full blown origin for Black Manta. Like many comics from the 90’s, it’s easy to breeze past an issue like this while flipping through the stacks. Just take a chance and pick this one up for a read as it isn’t worth anything. Geoff Johns went on to further tweak his origin in the New 52 series with Black Manta 1st appearing in #7, which you can also find for a buck.

Aquaman #15

Staying with our favorite fish whisperer, Josh Middleton has just wrapped up his Aquaman B cover run with #41. We all know of his Batgirl covers, but some of his Aquaman covers generated a little heat upon release during his run. Most, however, were issued without much fanfare.

The entire run is quite beautiful, and there are many issues that can be found as overstock in dollar bins. Sure B covers aren’t as easy to find, but I still grab any that catch my eye. You can still find runs of Frison’s Wonder Woman along with Middleton’s Aquaman on the cheap. I chose #15 because I really dig it even though it didn’t generate much interest when it was released.

Dan, it’s a good one. There are a lot of good ones in his run too. They are all on the Checklist for Middleton in the dropdown above and you can scan the entire run and pick out the gems. He’s very talented and finally getting recognized for it. So versatile

Yeah most of those Aquaman sketch covers can be found super cheap. I grabbed a few a while back just because paying cover or under for a 1:25 seems like a no lose situation. Even if they amount to nothing, what do you lose?

Scan eBay, find someone who has multiple, buy a few to save on shipping, and stash a handful of 1:25 New 52’s in a box for like $20.
