Have to go with Incredible Hulk 181. Wolverine first appearance. Always in demand. Will probably go up even further when Disney finally gets their hands on him.

Hulk 181. First, I collect for persoanl reasons and he’s been my favorite character since I started collecting in the 80’s. Second, it’s continued to be one of the most rock solid comic book investments. Third, with Wolvie’s return in comics and the now possibility of him being included in the MCU, it seems like an even more solid investment.

Giant-Size X-Men #1: 1:it’ll eventually get the MCU/Disney boost 2. most recognizable hero team 3 great cover and it being white makes a high grade hard to get

this will be on the rise soon

Special Marvel Edition #15 the Hands of Shang Chi Master of Kung Fu. With a movie in the works and a large Chinese market this will be on the rise. Maybe Donnie Yen? But they might go for somebody younger.

  • Foxom

Strange Tales #169. Marvel will need to introduce someone to practice the mystical arts after Cumberbatch walks away eventually. Marvel also seems to have a big push going for heroes of color so Brother Voodoo seems a logical choice to be brought into the MCU sooner rather than later. And Dr/brother Voodoo’s brother was already introduced in the 1st Dr Strange movie. Also a lower print run for the era.

Fantastic Four 48. MCU is going cosmic and there’s two huge players debuting in this issue – Galactus and Silver Surfer. With Marvel getting their hands on Fox there’s massive potential here. Or go issue 49 for first full Galactus.

Silver surfer 4. Yea there isn’t any key first appearances in this book, but it is a short printed book with a very iconic cover. You can still find it relatively cheap compared to other major key books, and the price has steadily increased over time. And you never know, one day Surfer will be introduced in the MCU and he may fight thor on the Rainbow Bridge

Amazing Spider-man #129, 1st Punisher.. or .. Marvel Spotlight #5 1st Ghost Rider. If only there was someway to combine the two….

i agree with the previous obvious choices. but my selection is Marvel Star Wars #7 This is the first new story after the Star Wars movie. It predates Empire Strikes Back. For arguments sake, if the first 6 issues of Star Wars was a separately numbered mini series This is Star Wars #1. All New Stories!! Beyond the Movie!!! People who collect Star Wars should consider this and I predict , eventually will. You can still get strong copies for under 40 bucks

Some great answers already. Hulk 181, GSX 1, ASM 129, FF 48 are all great choices. But for me, due to budget constraints if we’re considering today’s market pricing, I’d have to say iMan 55. If one could be found in a slabbed 9.8, it’d be in the $6,500+ range. Infinity war is done, but Marvel is not done with Thanos. And if the comics are any indication, you can’t kill the Mad Titan (see new GotG series). I’m specing that iMan 55 only goes up from here and it’s the closest to the ground floor as it’s ever going to be.

Ironfist 14 first appearance of sabretooth. You at some point they will re-boot wolverine, well one of his best known enemies is Sabretooth. Still very affordable.

Marvel Premiere 28. 1st Legion of Monsters. Very undervalued, consisting of all the fan favorite supernatural Marvel heroes of the 70’s. Lots of room to grow. Morbius will be a hit, and open the floodgates for other Marvel horror properties. Marvel movies will take over Halloween season within the next 5-7 years. At least, I hope!

The key qualifier of “At Today’s Prices” and goal of “Best Investment” which to me means something that turns quality ROI % profit and a good quantity $ profit, so not a $1 book that goes up to $10 and not a $25,000 book that goes up to $30,000, disqualifying Incredible Hulk #181 in my opinion… but has me pointing in that same direction, just one issue back at INCREDIBLE HULK #180 as the book that will rise at a better pace than #181 at current prices. I know there’s a debate about the “1st Appearance -vs- Cameo” but I see strong arguments that regardless of that #180 came out before #181 and the character is featured in full and named in that last page in all of his epic glory. That is a first appearance (not mandating it should be worth more than #181, but it seems like a factual statement that’s hard to argue at the end of the day. So, I feel collectors who can’t afford #181 will realize how awesome #180 is and prices will rise with the whole supply/demand relationship in the marketplace, especially in higher grades.

    Savage She-Hulk #1
I think this has a ton of room to grow because we will see more female leads (which is cool) and once the character enters the mainstream mind via TV or a movie it will take off.
Strong, Smart and Sexy is a winning combo.

Marvel Premiere #1 – 1st app of Him as Warlock / 1st app of the Soul Gem

This is the comic to get, right now it’s extremely affordable, even high graded copies aren’t that expensive. I see decent raws on Ebay going for as low as $60 – that’s just stupid.

The spec on this isn’t “if” Warlock appears in the mcu, it’s when. It’s clear he’s going to be vital in the cosmic phase of the mcu as well being in Donny Cates’ new Guardians run.

To top it off it’s a classic cover and the first appearance of any infinity stone in general.
I have multiple raw copies and a graded 7.0 (that I bought for $130 canadian)

Savage Tales #1…1st appearance of The Man-Thing. Sooner or later Marvel is going to start mining it’s horror characters, and Manny has all kinds of creepy going for him. He’s currently way mishandled in the MCU, but the right writer like say, Donny Cates?, could turn that right around.

  • Dell18

Hard to argue with a lot of answers. One I also like is actually Conan #1. What was/is? considered Bronze Age book #1. Comparatively speaking it has not seen the gains other Marvel Bronze Age keys have over the last 15 years. Percentage wise, I think it has a ton of room to grow. I don’t really see 181 or IM 55 tripling in value anytime soon but Conan 1 and a few of the other answers could.

I was a lil kid when I first saw incredible hulk fight a lil yellow guy, I didn’t buy it. now I would have to sell off my family to get close to it now!!!

Eternals #1 …. Jack Kirby? Check. Movie Coming? Check. Awesome cover hard to find in high grade (due to black cover)? Check……

And it is relatively low priced…. I can see raw 9.0-9.4 copies selling $300-400 each when the movie comes around… imagine if it’s the next big thing like GOTG….. A bronze Jack King Kirby Marvel #1…. that will only marinate w time!

I think we all know which Marvel bronze age book will be at the top of most peoples list and for good reason, but there are actually other very good choices out there. Some that may have potential to increase percentage wise even more that that grail issue! One book I have been touting as a great investment for a while is Eternals #1!

This book in less than a year has increased many, many multiples over what they were were realizing. Wasn;t long ago I was buying mid to higher grade copies of this book for $4 to $10 and Near mint range copies for $20! It’s crazy how fast this book climbed in price! The increase started with just movie rumors. Another price jump happened a few months back when those rumors became reality. Even though there are quite a few copies of Eternals #1 out there they are still selling quite well in all grades!

Casting for the new movie hasn’t been announced yet and issue #1 still sells! Once concrete information becomes official the book will climb in price again! Another factor that “could” bring this comic to elite bronze, key status is how far Marvel will go with this franchise. Although it seems likely, nothing right now is guaranteed, but “if” the Eternals franchise spans multiple movies and crossovers even graded 9.8 prices today will seem like a steal a few years down the road!

If the Eternals becomes the next big thing in the Marvel movie universe, in three short years the second movie of this franchise could potentially be just months away! If that is the case we all know what that will mean for the price of this comic! Up, up up! I would tell anyone who doesn’t have this issue in at least a 9.0 (certified or un-graded) to get one now before you miss out on a now key book for a good price!

Thor 337, 1st appearance of Beta Ray Bill. they wanted to use him in thor 3 and infinity war but held off cause they didnt want to crowbar him in. with enterals being made i suspect we will get a thor 4 movie with thor teaming up with bill. lastly this quoteabout bill in thor 3, Producer Kevin Feige said, “it was so quick… and it just didn’t do it justice. And the feeling is, if you can’t do it justice, do it later.” bill is coming stock up now

Since everyone is posting about Marvel items, I’ll change it up and pick a DC comic. How about the first appearance of Nightwing (Tales of the New Teen Titans 44). One day the movie will get made and this issue should catch serious fire.

Everyone’s doing a Marvel book cause that’s what was instructed – “If you were looking to hold for 3 years or longer, what single MARVEL COMIC from the Bronze Age is the best investment at today’s market prices and why?”

I’m sure if you change it you’ll still qualify.

I am going to have to say right now you can get a Ms Marvel #1 for a small chunk of change. I think the Ms Marvel movie takes off and this book skyrockets in value

    HULK #181

My vote is for one book I never hear much about, and that’s the Silver Surfer graphic novel co-published by Marvel and Fireside in 1978 (so hopefully still technically a Marvel Bronze Age book). When the Surfer gets the MCU treatment, there’s obviously going to be a lot of demand for key Surfer books, and this forgotten gem could catch fire for speculators who can’t afford FF #48 or the original Silver Surfer #1 (both Silver Age comics anyway). There’s so much going for this book, I can’t believe it hasn’t been noticed yet. Not only does it have a great story and awesome art by Lee and Kirby (nice Norem cover too) , it has historical value as one of the first graphic novels published. If people pick this up and dust it off, it’s sure to go cosmic imo.

I think Amazing Spider-Man #194 (1st appearance of Black Cat) would be a good pick for a three year investment. I bought a VF copy at a local shop two years ago for $12, and even though prices online were higher at the time, I was still surprised at how low the prices were considering the prominence of the character and the demand for Spider-Man key issues.

Since then, I’ve noticed the price and demand for the issue rise quickly–so much so that multiple copies are consistently showing up on the Bronze Age comics to watch list on the Lyria Exchange website, competing with blue chip comics like Marvel Spotlight #5 and WBN #32. The price is still very low compared to those titles, and all three characters are roughly on the same level of prominence (I think Ghost Rider and Moon Knight benefit from the horror genre bump, though; however, Black Cat could eventually benefit more from cheesecake and girl comic fans).

I do not think the increase in price is only due to the possible Black Cat movie–I actually think that news of that movie made fans realize how under-priced that is really was. Honestly, I believe that many comic fans like myself are doubtful that the movie will ever be made, but if it does, the price of the comic will likely spike because so many people doubted the production of the movie. On second thought, though, if Morbius can get a movie, so can Black Cat (especially with fandom’s demand for more female led movies).

Lastly, if you can get your hands on a NM copy for a good price, I think the payoff will increase exponentially. Given the age of the book and the fact that it is printed on a black cover, high grade copies are going to be harder to come by. Now is a good time to look for a deal on this comic at cons and shops. If you can get a VF copy for around $50 or a NM range copy for around $100, I think you will turn a profit on it in three years (and potentially even more if you hold onto it longer and the movie production progress looks promising).

    Marvel Spotlights #2
First Appearance of Werewolf by Night
    Still relatively obscure.
    Still relatively cheap
Hard to find in high Grade
Shows like Sabrina getting good reviews.
The original Werewolf by Night arc would make a great TV series.

  • beta420

I’m going with Incredible Hulk #181, the first appearance of Wolverine. It’s always been a hot book, and it’s value will hold for a long time to come. It will continue to rise in value because Wolverine will never go out of style. Get it graded, and watch the value blow up even more!

Nova #1. We just got the Nova Corps, you know he’s coming. Graded 9.0-9.4s are on the cheap right now. Actually someone just nabbed a 9.4 on the 8th for $60. I expect serious movement on them in the next few years. That guy may just sell that for $600 in a few years for 1000% profit. The fact that Nova is nowhere to be seen in the TV show they are/were working on only makes it more apparent he will be showing up in a movie soon. If you don’t have a bunch of Nova #1’s go get some now at super low prices before it blows up

For me it’s gotta be Werewolf by Night #32… the Moon Knight has yet to become part of the MCU.. and the big/little screen is well overdue… once it happens for this character, and it will, the book will explode.. what’s not to like about a character shrouded in mystery, walking the line between good and bad.. MK all the way, baby 🌙

I am going to go with G.I.Joe 21.The 1st Storm Shadow in a comic. It relatively low for a 1st appearance and could have potential with the rumors of Snake Eyes movie coming out. I am sure the movie will have him involved as well.

  • goliath72

I’d have to go with SheHulk #1. I’ve been seeing the still under 100$ raw copies and feel that with the push for woman super heroes it’s a for sure. The success of Deadpool (breaking the 4th wall) which is what she hulk also does. ( hope she doesn’t rip my X-men comics) is a good thing. But there is so many ways to introduce her into the mcu big screen or small. With the pull of daredevil and all the other Netflixarvel shows I think they did that for the future marvel stream. What better way to make a bang is bring on she hulk into the daredevil series( lawyers) they would also be able to connect both tv and big screen with her by making a Aforce movie why not.

Giant Size X-MEN #1 when Disney relaunches the X-MEN. Right now, X-MEN is in a down swell right now. Disney will make this book run high for a long time.

  • Avatar

As good an investment as Hulk 181 is, and with a beautiful and iconic cover, at today’s market value it’s out of reach for most.
Many other great answers were given, but the single best value with the most upside potential in a Bronze Age Marvel comic is Werewolf by Night #32, both the first appearance and cover appearance of Moon Knight.
This book is still EXTREMELY affordable, even in high grade, and once Marvel taps the potential and awesomeness of this underrated character, this Bronze book will skyrocket, and stay high.
Get it while you can, and watch it climb!

  • Avatar

Marvel Premiere 28 – 1st Legion of Monsters. I also feel that this group will receive a movie and branch off individually for their own movies or supporting roles in bigger productions. Cool cover too!

  • Avatar

I’d say Marvel Spotlight 32, 1st Spider-Woman. With the popularity of the Into the Spiderverse movie, any Spider property has a lot of boom potential with upcoming sequals and merchandise possibilities. This book is still very affordable even in 9.8s considering its age and significance.

  • Avatar

I’d have to say Hulk 180 as it’s the true first appearance of Wolverine, and 181 is too expensive for most so that’s the one they’ll be looking for, which will drive up the price for sure. After that, Marvel Spotlight #5 for 1st Ghost Rider, and because that’s already starting to climb, Ghost Rider #1 may be what collectors will look to next if they can’t get MS5. I can go on forever, but after all is said and done, Tomb of Dracula 10 (1st Blade) is pretty affordable, and Blade is about to join the Avengers in comics, which means we may see him in marvel movies in the near future… that would have to be my pick! Very fun question… if I could just buy every single key, I would 🙂

  • Avatar

Conan #1. #23 for second place.

  • Avatar

    Marvel Team-Up #95.
    1st appearance Mocking Bird.
I think marvel has been pushing her. In the last few years. Building her up for something bigger in the future. She is a strong female lead character.

werewolf by night 32, so hard to find in great shape.
