1 Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider #1 Jee Hyung 1:100 Variant

WRITER: Seanan McGuire
ARTIST: Rosi Kampe
We knew it was coming and sales have certainly not disappointed ($200-250).  Why do we love rain and snow covers so much?  Anyway, once the initial batch of sales have been completed, this one could be a hard one to find as I suspect that many of the sales are for personal collections.

2 Invincible Iron Man #10 2nd Print

WRITER: Matt Fraction
ARTIST: Salvador Larroca
Ahhh, to be that person that picked this up in August for $3…or the winner of the Mega Millions–ok, not quite the same, but you get the point.  Rescue photo leaked and boom, this, the first print and the variant all exploded.  $75-100+ right now.

3 Return of Wolverine #1 2nd Print

WRITER: Charles Soule
ARTIST: Steve McNiven
I really don't think that the Star Wars pages will be a big deal in the long run, but right now they are.  People are paying $20 for it.

4 Unstoppable Wasp (Vol. 2) #1 Yasmine Putri 1:50 Variant

WRITER: Jeremy Whitley
ARTIST: Gurihiru
This one made the Honorable Mention last week, but only because of the lack of live sales.  Those have now hit and they are hitting hard to the tune of $135+.

5 The Rejected #1 2nd Print

WRITER: Stan Konopka
ARTIST: Corey Christian Anderson
I thought the 1st print was on its way down when prices had dropped to around $20.  That one is now back to almost $50 and this 2nd print is hitting $30-40.  Like Rags, these are the little indies that could…

6 Fantastic Four Annual #6

WRITER: Stan Lee
ARTIST: Jack Kirby
Speculation that Annihilus will be in the new Avengers movie is causing record high sales in multiple grades.  For example, multiple CGC 7.0's sold last November for around $75.  It is now selling for $600.

7 Adventures of Sly Cooper #2

WRITER: Various
ARTIST: Travis Kotzebue
Topher has so much knowledge about books like this that I initially passed off his note to me a couple weeks ago about #1 selling for $450 (that was multi-signed in fairness).  But now #2 is selling for $100+.  Note to self: Topher knows more than I do lol.

8 Spider-Man #76

WRITER: Howard Mackie
ARTIST: John Romita, Jr.
Wow, a book from this title that is not Carnage related that is selling for more than $1??  Rumors of a Morbius villain that is based on the 1st appearance here of Crown have pulled this one from the dollar bin to a $20-30 book.

9 Batgirl (Vol. 5) #28 Josh Middleton Variant

WRITER: Mairghread Scott
ARTIST: Paul Pelletier
Will this one get the attention that #23 did?  Probably not, but personally, I like this cover better.  The simplicity of what is going on tells a story.  Anyway, right now, it's selling for around $10+.

10 Spider-Girls #1 Jeff Dekal 1:50 Variant

WRITER: Jody Houser
ARTIST: Andres Genolet
There are more for sale than I would have expected, which is probably why the price is holding back in the $60 range.  Why no love for Amazing Fantasy #1 (1st Anya) and ASM: Renew Your Vows #1 (1st Annie May)?

Rom: First Strike #1 Whilce Portacio 1:10 Variant

WRITER: Christos Gage
ARTIST: Chris Panda
Hmmm, definitely a low print run (4400) and probably very few stores even ordered 10 copies, but a $50 book?

Lucky Comics #9

WRITER: Various
ARTIST: Jon St. Ables (cover)
Ahhh, the Canadian Whites–a topic I can't really begin to discuss in this small column…but seriously, read about these.  This is the only graded copy available, but whoa, look at this cover.  Dad and son(?!?) smoking cigars with the half-dressed woman on his lap?  What just happened?  And what's with the crane??  Anyway, the 2.0 copy sold for $1900.

Wait, what? Can we elaborate on this Sly Cooper book? I’m out of the loop on that one apparently.

    • Topher

It is based on a popular video game. Issue 1 was a Wizard World release in 2004
Issue 2 was released with Gamepro 205. Issue 2 has a variant in that act 1 is named in some versions and unnamed in others.
There is also a how to draw book. Sly has a passionate following, a lot of his more rare collectibles are highly sought after and rarely come up for auction.

And thanks Ben but I do not know more than you do! Great list as always my friend!

Fantastic Four annual #6 can still be found out there cheap/Cheap-ish. This past week found a VG and a Good +, both for $30 each.

  • Ben Steiniger

Hmmmm…..well, if you read last weeks post, I promised I would give something away to the best post within 48 hours to this weeks list. Only 4 comments, one was by a staff writer and the others were just a question and finding one of the books? Not real sure what to do lol.

I still think even if Annihilus is not in the next Avengers flick FF annual #6 is still a big time key in the making. Not just because of Annihilus but also the first Franklin Richards. Both these characters have big time potential when dealing with future Marvel Cinematic or TV projects. Never say never. The prices are a bit nuts right now, but who knows, if the stars align right and these two become stars the prices of today might seem cheap a few years down the road.

I like Accustom and Nightrob’s comments after the cutoff, but I can only choose 1 from the whopping 4 before the cutoff.

While Topher is a staff member, his comment is the most informative, so he wins.

This is what you all missed out on:

Tales From Clerks II Convention Sketch Variant (probably a $25-30 book)
    Skyward #1 ($10)
Aspen Splash 2008 Michael Turner WW Chicago/1500 ($10-15)

So, about $50 in books. I am going to keep giving stuff away, although it will be random…but it will only go to people who comment.

I can’t believe the things that ghost spider variant is doing. I never really get the hot variant of the week but I have managed to get 1,6,8,9 and 10.

It’s cool seeing the high prices for ghost spider and spider girls. But I rather wait 6 months to 2 years and see where the prices are on these books. Hopefully, by that time, we can see if these books where good books to have or were just inflated due to outside factors. But anyways, I am just going to put these on my wish list for Christmas. 😀👍
