Con Coverage – STGCC 2018 with David Finch Interview

Hi all, today we’ll walk through the Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention 2018, held from 8-9 September at the spectacular Marina Bay Sands!

The crowds seemed slightly thinner this year, with comfortable walking room throughout the con. However, the fans in attendance were no less enthusiastic, and there was an excellent selection of cosplayers roaming the floor.

The wide selection of action figures and statues on display by various manufacturers are always a highlight of STGCC, as is the tabletop gaming area which never fails to pull in the crowds.

Following last year’s original comic art exhibition, this year local collectors put together a display of key graded comic books. They were even giving away free comics from their collections, to introduce the medium to a new generation of fans!

Reed Exhibitions hit Artist Alley out of the park yet again, bringing in a star-studded lineup headlined by David Finch, Mark Brooks and Adi Granov, along with the returning Frank Cho and Arthur Adams! Singapore’s Eisner Award winner Sonny Liew was also in attendance.

After having the privilege of interviewing Arthur Adams and Frank Cho last year, this time my buddy Alex and I had the opportunity to speak with the ever-gracious David Finch.

As you’ll hear, David is a passionate, thoughtful creator and fan – he even sat down with local OA collectors to go through their collections and geek out over other artists’ works!

Until next time, happy collecting!

Here’s Part 1 & Part 2 of the guide to collecting original art; and my CAF gallery.

David Finch is awesome. I had the privilege of getting to watch him sketch for me a few years ago at NJ Comic Expo. Normally getting to meet the artists is a rushed ordeal but in this case I got to talk with him for about 15 minutes while he worked. He’s a super nice, super talented guy.
