1 Malibu Sun #13

WRITER: Various
ARTIST: Todd McFarlane (cover)
I'm not even going to mention the error version.  Just the regular version set a record high last month of $800 in 9.8 but then turned around and set another record high of $978 this month.  Spawn lives on!

3 The Incredible Hulk #418

WRITER: Peter David
ARTIST: Gary Frank
This book also benefits from Captain Marvel movie news as it contains the 1st appearance of Talos.  There are a billion of these out there though which should thwart any long term possibilities for it.

4 Unnatural #3 CBLDF Uncensored Variant

WRITER: Mirka Andolfo
ARTIST: Mirka Andolfo
I guess just the sheer shock value of some books makes people want them (see Savage Dragon #225).  Having a pig girl with her boobs out on the cover is pretty shocking in my mind, and I guess others as well since they are paying $10-15 for this new release.

5 What If…? #105

WRITER: Tom Defalco
ARTIST: Ron Frenz
Yes, this has been sought after for a long time, but earlier this year, 9.8's had dipped below $200 and raws were around $30.  9.8's are now back to almost $300 and raws have doubled into the $60 range again.  With all the Spider characters books seeing price jumps, why not Spider-Girl?

6 Red Hood & The Outlaws (Vol. 2) #25 Yasmine Putri Variant

Just a really nice cover of a likely underordered title…and it's the B variant on top of that.  Selling in the $15-20 range right now.

7 Rick and Morty vs Dungeons & Dragons #1 Foil Variant /700

WRITER: Patrick Rothfuss
ARTIST: Troy Little
I still don't get the whole R&M craze, but I don't understand a lot of things, so don't use me as a barometer.  This one was pre-selling in the $40-50 range and, now live, it's selling in the $60-70 range.

8 A Walk Through Hell #1 B/W Variant

WRITER: Garth Ennis
ARTIST: Goran Sudzuka
I have no idea where this one has been hiding.  Ebay listings say that it was originally supposed to be a 1/store but that idea was canceled.  Anyone with a better idea, please let us know, but sales have went from $25 to $50 to now $75.

9 Fantastic Four #2

Yes, THAT FF #2.  Captain Marvel is bringing on the Skrulls and yes, while this book was out of most people's range already, records are now being set including a 2.5 that just sold for $1000+ and a 3.5 incomplete for over $500.

10 Border Town #1 Jorge Jimenez Variant

WRITER: Eric Esquivel
ARTIST: Ramon Villalobos
I know there are a lot of people excited that Vertigo is back.  Strange story concept, even without the political undertones.  Either way, this B cover variant is selling for $10+ right now.

Elric: The White Wolf #1 Jean Bastide Variant

WRITER: Michael Moorcock
ARTIST: Robin Recht
The cover art feels like it is straight out of Game of Thrones.  Probably not going to be easy to find in the wild and it's hitting $10-15 right now.

International Comics #4

WRITER: Gardner Fox
ARTIST: Sheldon Moldoff
This is probably everyone's worst nightmare, being fed to hungry lions by a giant clown.  Anyway, a CGC 9.0 just sold for $2300

That International 4 should count as Pre Code Horror…

Hulk 418 and Avengers 346 have rare newwstand variants. The Hulk 418 cover has a CC02456 underneath the issue number and date. Since the UPC is on the back you can identify it from the front that way. Avengers 346 has the UPC on the front instead of the spiderman 30th anniversary logo.

Almost $1,000 bucks for Malibu Sun #13? Thats not even a comic book, right? its promotional materials with Spawn on the cover. And its not even the first spawn art to be released. I can think of a lot of actual comic books to buy with $978 bucks, but I guess if you are a hardcore spawn collector it makes sense.

Quite a few Unnaturals at the LCS—I feel like by the time I got home with them any flip opportunity would be over.

Rust #1, Southern Squadron #4 and Rocket Racer #1 all have full page or 2 full page spreads of Spawn in black and white predating Malibu Sun.

I guess Malibu Sun is the clear winner because A) It was the 1st one to get notoriety for being 1st Spawn (which in my opinion it isn’t) and B) Spawn on cover and in color maybe?

That’s the only 2 reasons I believe it is where it’s at value wise.

Awesome list and that international comics 4 is now on my wish list. Although I can think 🤔 of much worse nightmares lol actually don’t really mind clowns 🤡 to be honest.

It’s good to see What If 105 start to get a sales bump. Man I wish I had that FF 2.
A CGC 9.0 seems like an extremely tough high grade for an early EC published comic. I wonder if that’s the reason for the high sale. Didn’t know there was much interest in that title.

I finally read the first two Rick and Morty graphic novels. They perfectly capture the comedic feel and timing on the page, which I didn’t think would be possible. It feels exactly like the show but with a longer running continuity. With so much time between seasons, it’s perfect for fans. I am no longer surprised at all by these prices.
