The Wednesday One 09/05

wednesday

Welcome to the night before Wednesday One! 09/05/18

This week is really big. I will have to cut some when I get to the store as there is no way I can get even close to all of these. Let's just jump in and see what is on deck.

Flipdipskys

Justice League Vol 4 #7 Cover C Incentive Jim Lee Pencils Only Cover 1:100

These covers are great and probably getting slightly fewer as issue sales slowly decrease. The regular color cover is great also and JL is a good read. Presales $40-50 I think under $35 is safe. These seem to all end up around $50 in the long run. Jim Lee a legend for a reason.

Avengers Vol 7 #7 Cover D Incentive Clayton Crain Variant Cover 1:50

I actually like this Crain cover and with the BC theme, it might get some love. Also rumored origin story. Presales are $40-45, but it seems like undercutting is setting in already as I see a $30 and $40 bin. I think this ends up $25-30 after it floods tomorrow. I think $20 or less to be safe, but if there is something significant in it it might take off. I think stores got books early because of the holiday and we would have heard spoilers by now.

Cosmic Ghost Rider #3 Cover C Incentive Declan Shalvey Variant Cover 1:25

Marketed as multiple 1st apps, but it seems like every other Cates book is a 1st app. This is moving on presales and all over the place price wise. Avg is ~$30 and seems to be creeping up. I think $20 and under is safe, but if you see a nm+ copy maybe pay a little more. I think it ends up ~$35 which is great. Heck, the cheapest bin is $40  Dang, I don't like this book for a one, but it is the “One.” Should be accessible to many. It is hot and seems to be rising. The cover isn't great imo, but flaming skulls rock. “One” it is.

Thanos Legacy #1 Cover G Incentive George Perez Virgin Variant Cover 1:100

I don't like this cover at all, but it is the highest ratio variant of the bunch. Pumped hard by Cates, but tread lightly until you hear what the reveal is. Very few presales but seems to be right around ratio. I'm actually amazed it is so high. I expect it to fall to $75ish. I wouldn't pay over half ratio to be safe.

Thanos Legacy #1 Cover E Incentive Stonehouse Variant Cover 1:25

My favorite of the covers, but it probably won't do as well % gain compared to the others as it will be plentiful. Presales seems to be $15. $10 or under I think is safe.

Thanos Legacy #1 Cover F Incentive Esad Ribic Variant Cover 1:50

I think this one will have the better % gain if any of the 3 do, but it isn't great. Presales seem to be ~$50 which is solid and I think will be the best for flipping of the 3 covers. $30 or under is probably safe. I'd prefer half ratio though in case it floods. This book had a lot of pump.

Midnight Task Force #3

I haven't read it but the first two heated up for a bit and it has a tiny print run so this one might also. I probably wouldn't try to flip it though, but others might.

Cool Covers

Deathstroke Vol 4 #35 Cover B Variant Francesco Mattina Cover

I grab every one of these Mattina DS covers. It is a great run.

Dreaming Vol 2 #1 Cover A Regular Jae Lee Cover

This Lee cover is spot on and I'm curious how it is as a reader.

Harley Quinn Vol 3 #49 Cover B Variant Frank Cho Cover

I liked it better before the colors, but still a great cover.

Spawn #289 Cover A Regular Francesco Mattina Cover

Spawn and Mattina are like PB&J.

Avengers Vol 7 #7 Cover C Incentive Eve Ventrue Marvels Spider-Man Video Game Variant Cover 1:10

This is signed “after Jae Lee” if I'm reading it right so I'm not sure who actually did this cover, but it is great. 1st cover with the new game suit? This cover rocks.

Death Of The Inhumans #3 Cover A Regular Kaare Andrews Cover

This Andrews cover has a great feel to it. Another Cates book to read.

Immortal Hulk #5 Cover A Regular Alex Ross Cover

Ross is boss. This has been a good read so far also.

Weapon X Vol 3 #23

This is a cool Rahzzah cover that I like for a few reasons. Definitely a grab for me.

Read it

Batman Vol 3 #54 Cover B Variant Tim Sale Cover

Still got bats on the pull. Some issues are better than others, but I still like the run.

Injustice 2 #33

Injustice is one of the better DC titles.

Cover #1 Cover A Regular David Mack Cover

I think this might be either really good or bad. I feel like the concept just isn't going to work.

United States vs Murder Inc #1 Cover B Variant David Mack Cover

This one sounds interesting, but I'll probably skip it.

Dead Hand #6

So far really good. Give this book a shot if you haven't.

Border Town #1 Cover B Variant Jorge Jimenez Cover

I just don't care about this book, but this B cover seems to have some attention. I know a lot of people are hyped about it so I feel I am the minority.

Old Man Logan Vol 2 Annual #1 Cover A Regular Shane Davis Cover

OML is on my pull and this cover is cool.

Star Wars Vol 4 #53 Cover B Variant John Tyler Christopher Action Figure Cover

Yes, I still get these, don't laugh too much :). Star Wars is a great read.

Pestilence Story Of Satan #4

Pest is a good story.

Relay #3

I liked the first two issues and so far I might add it to my pull.

Solar Flare Season 3 #1 Cover B Variant InKognit Cover

I liked the first two volumes and look forward to the third.

Family Graves #1

This book sounds crazy and maybe not in a good way. If I see it in my LCS I'll check it out.

Leviathan #2 Cover A Regular Nick Pitarra & Michael Garland Cover

I liked the first issue enough.

Day 165 One Shot

Another Source Point Press book that will have a tiny print run. Sounds like an interesting war story.

Deadpool Vol 6 #4 Cover B Variant Todd Nauck Cosmic Ghost Rider VS Cover

Deadpool on a kid trike makes me laugh. I know it is silly. Don't judge me too hard lol. I'm super behind on this read, but I usually like it.

Bonus look back – how did last week do a week later?

How did last week's spec end up doing? We take a look at last week's predictions and see if we did OK one week later!!!

(Last week's spec will be quoted like this. What it really did will look like this.)

Venom First Host #1 Cover C Incentive Rod Reis Variant Cover 1:25 – 1st app of Tel-Kar the Kree 1st host should make this book hot. This is also a much better cover than the 1:50.  I think grabbing it for half ratio or less should be safe and I think it will have more action than the 1:50. Presales are all over today from $40-20 with most around $30. I think $20 is more realistic with several bins for $20. I think it stays on the higher side of $15-20. I really like this cover. Recent sales at $45 which is amazing!

Venom First Host #1 Cover D Incentive John Cassaday Variant Cover 1:50 – This cover isn't bad, but it isn't good either. Bottom line Tel-Kar is on the cover. It is the highest ratio variant also. It is the rarest so I think half ratio or less, better if less. I don't hear a lot of folks clamoring for this 1st app and it isn't a Cates book, but Venom is hot and so is spec for it. Presales seem consistent at $30. I wonder if people will care and it stays or rises, or if people skip it and it drops to half ratio or less. My guess is it sits $25-30. This book seems to be a solid $30.

Beyonders #1 Cover B Variant Andi Ewington Cover- Interesting premise. I'll give it a shot. Seems to be selling out online, but I don't think it heats up. This book seems to be ~$10 now which isn't bad for an Aftershock book.

Wrap Up

There is a “One” and this week is huge. I'm curious how the flips pan out and wonder if there is room for some hidden gems. This week is just so big I think I will have to work through a big stack tomorrow and widdle it down. Thanks for reading and let me know if I missed anything or goofed on anything.
