Well it took a while but I finally found an image of Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan)… actually I found nothing, I think Khoi sent me this. The image is by Bosslogic. BL has been gaining some popularity on the internet over the years doing these photo bashed images for comic characters, seemingly right as a rumor or other news breaks. Some times they are hit and/or miss with fans of a character, like Bosslogic's Ashoka Tano image last year. Ultimately I think he does a good job creating an image that can get the internet excited about the potential of a character appearing on screen. So more power to him, honestly. That being said there's a lot of… debate over the use of photo bashing in creating art. In the concept art world it's used extensively, while in the comic art world is usually looked down upon. Just as an example, Marvel Studios (who makes films) typically won't hire artist who use this art technique, they want the concept art drawn/digitally painted from scratch. Presumably for copyright reason. Some companies have run into trouble with it, like Sony's Naughty Dog studio with Ellen Page and the Last of Us game.
Now to offset the digital let's go with a traditional. This Huntress piece is by artist Cat Staggs. What's really interesting about this image is it has a sorta pulp feel to it. I always get a pulp vibe from tradition work, depending on the techniques employed. When you add the Huntress, well it just really works well, especially with the white background. Usually people with throw a city scape in there or something. Which in this case might be too much and clutter it up. I'm not really a fan of white covers, because of how easily they collect dirt and grim. However, this is an example of an image i'd buy a few copies of to slab if it was an actual cover.
That's it for this week, see you next Monday!
