The Weekend After Wednesday for 7/28/18

Want to know which books from Wednesday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long-term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 7/25/18. They could still be at your shop.

HOT

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #2 1:25 CAMPBELL VARIANT (MARVEL) – Campbell books tend to be overpriced in stores.  If you spent more then ratio, then this might not be hot for you.  Currently, this is selling for $35 to $40.

BARBARELLA #8 NATALIE SANDERS VARIANT (DYNAMITE)I’m really surprised that this variant hasn’t been flooded on eBay. Copies have been selling between $12 to $20 shipped.  Sanders has a growing fan base, so this should do well.

INFINITY WARS PRIME #1 HILDEBRANDT 1:25 VARIANT– This is easily the hottest NEW (*see Venom #4) book of the week.  It’s currently selling for $65 after dropping from a height of $119.  I’m wary of that price holding.  Hopefully the next issue will help bring some clarity to who Requiem is.  Is this a new character or one we already know?  Dependent of that info, this book could skyrocket or drop like a rock.

TEEN TITANS #20 1:25 JIMENEZ DESIGN VARIANT (DC)For a highly anticipated variant, $40-$50 is a great price on this 1:25. Surprisingly, copies are starting to thin out on eBay and prices are trending upwards.

VENOM #4 (MARVEL)This book caused quite the market boost for Thor: God of Thunder #2 and #6.  God of Thunder #2 Acuna 1:50 Variant just went nuts (see Ben’s Top 10 this week) thanks to references made in this issue.  Venom #4’s prices have greatly varied.  The most recent copy sold for cover price.  However, prices have been ranging between $10 to $20.

LAST WEEK UPDATE

CABLE #159 1:25 ANACLETO VARIANT (MARVEL) – This had a drop from $75 last week to $55 to $64 this week.   What’s interesting is that the last sale for this was 3 days ago on the 25th. When books sit, eventually a seller will accept a lower offer and then the rest will follow.

LIFE OF CAPTAIN MARVEL #1 ARTGERM 1:200 VARIANT (MARVEL) – Here’s another variant that averaged around $200 to $240 last week. It’s currently holding at $225. Similar to Cable, sales have stopped and are now just sitting.

NANCY IN HELL #1 (OF 4) (AMIGO) – The 1:10 Olmos variant is still selling well at $15 shipped.

SPIDER-GWEN #34 (MARVEL) – This was warm last week when it was barely moving outside of cover price.  It’s now selling for $10.

HOT – THIS TIME LAST YEAR

BATGIRL #13 MIDDLETON B VARIANT (DC)You would think that with all the fervor around Middleton, that this variant from last year would start increasing in value.  It’s selling for the same amount, $8.

SAVAGE DRAGON #225 25TH ANNIVERSARY XXX KRASH VARIANT (IMAGE) – This super scandalous variant had a heavy buy in price of $11.99.   Sales were hitting $25.  I was surprised to see that this has held that value at $25.

SHIRTLESS BEAR-FIGHTER #2 1:15 SCOTTIE YOUNG BABY NUDE VARIANT (IMAGE)– Last year the 1:15 Young variant was selling at $35 shipped. This has almost disappeared from eBay and therefore hasn’t seen a sale in quite a while.

STREET FIGHTER SWIMSUIT SPECIAL 2017 MORRIGAN “VAMPIRELLA HOMAGE” 1:10 VARIANT (UDON) – While this homage sold for $20-25 shipped last year, it’s now selling for $10 shipped.

WARM

MOON GIRL AND DEVIL DINOSAUR #33 (MARVEL) – One copy sold for $12.99, so now all sellers are holding at that price and none are moving. It’ll come down, but probably at least double cover price.

COOL

ACTION COMICS #1001 (DC)1:100 variants are struggling lately and this is no exception, the 1:100 is selling for $35.

BONE PARISH #1 (BOOM)

BRITANNIA LOST EAGLES OF ROME #1 (OF 4) (VALIANT)

CROSSED PLUS 100 MIMIC #1 (AVATAR)

DETECTIVE COMICS #985 (DC)– This isn’t selling for anything, but MAN I love this cover.  Brooks is putting out some of the best Batman covers of late.

DISSENSION WAR ENTERAL #1 (ASPEN)

COSMIC GHOST RIDER #1 2ndPRINT (MARVEL)

CYKO KO #1 (OF 3) (ALTERNA)

EDEN #1 (OF 4) (ALTERNA)

HELLICIOUS #1 (OF 5) (STARBURNS INDUSTRIES)

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #1 CAPULLO 1:50 B&W VARIANT (DC) – Despite some buzz, this is only selling for $40.

LONG CON #1 (ONI)

MR AND MRS X #1 (MARVEL) – The Campbell variants are selling for under ratio.  The 1:100 is selling for $66 and the 1:50 is selling for $45.

NEW WORLD #1 (OF 5) (IMAGE)

SAGA #54 (IMAGE)

STARCRAFT SCAVENGERS #1 (DARK HORSE)

WAKANDA FOREVER X-MEN #1 (MARVEL)

WONDER WOMAN #51 (DC) – LOVE this Artgerm cover.

X-MEN GRAND DESIGN SECOND GENESIS #1 (MARVEL)

X-23 #2 RAHZZAH 1:25 VARIANT – Selling for $20

A lot of shops I went to were low or out of venom 4. That cover is another one that is gonna be tuff to find in 9.8.

I think the superb Artgerm Wonder Woman would have been hotter if it had been the variant instead of the regular cover and if stores weren’t so aware of it beforehand that they were able to load up on so many copies.

I’m puzzled, though, why the beautiful upcoming Middleton variant for Aquaman 39 is so scarce on Ebay (Only two current sellers as of 7/28 and both with jacked up prices, and only a handful before that who sold out of their presale copies). In this case, DC might have revealed the cover graphics a little too late and stores under-ordered this variant. I guess we’ll see in two weeks if this cover is scarce enough to become really hot.

Just an addendum to what I previously posted. I remember, now, talking to an LCS owner a few days ago and he had told me that he pre-ordered over 20 copies of the upcoming Middleton variant for Batgirl 25. A lot of people have been aware of that cover for weeks now and I’m sure it has been ordered up the gazoo as people are speculating that it could be another Batgirl 23. It probably won’t be because 23 caught many shops by surprise, while 25 is going to be abundantly available at shops and online due to all of the speculation. It will still be very popular just because it looks so great, but the prices won’t shoot up nearly as quickly or as high as they have on 23.

However, the LCS owner said he ordered only 2 copies of the Aquaman 39 variant cover. In fact, he didn’t even know what the cover looked like until I showed him a photo of it off of Ebay. I’m guessing that many shops had to pre-order this as a blind buy before the cutoff date and they chose not to pick it up in large quantities, despite it being a Middleton cover. If so, then this one has a much better chance of being a “hot” title than Batgirl 25. Then again, I could be totally wrong and Ebay gets flooded with copies of this on the days leading up to its release. Maybe Red Hood and the Outlaws 26 variant is really the comic cover to stockpile.
