The Weekend After Wednesday for 5/12/18

Want to know which books from Wednesday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long-term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 5/9/18. They could still be at your shop.

HOT

EXILES #3 PUZZLE QUEST 1:10 PEGGY CARTER VARIANT (MARVEL) – I REALLY tried finding one of these this week, and none were found. This great variant is selling for $40-$50 shipped.  That’s pretty fantastic for a 1:10.

SCOOBY APOCALYPSE #25 (DC) – Upon asking my two LCS’s for a copy, I discovered that both only ordered copies for the pull customers that requested it. So, not a single copy was to be found.  $22 for a set was the height on Friday.  $19 seems to be the most consistent price.  Individual copies of either cover sell for $10 shipped.  The only problem with this book right now is the huge flood of copies currently on eBay.

WWE #17 ASUKA 1:15 VIRGIN VARIANT (BOOM) – This is a fairly thin HOT. There have only been 3 copies listed in the past several days.  One international copy sold for about $67 shipped.  There are only two copies listed, one for $100 and another for $130 (bundled with the #16 Bliss Variant).  This variant must be insane to find to only have so few copies listed. Online is really the only place you could have found a copy.  Stores are not ordering 15 copies of WWE at issue #17. It’ll be interesting to see how this does once those on-line copies get delivered and then listed.

LAST WEEK UPDATE

CYBORG #22 VIRGIN VARIANT (DC) – I missed this issue last week.  It features the first appearance of Mekkan-X and is steadily selling for about the same amount it did last week, $15 shipped.  I think this variant has great long-term potential.

RED SONJA TARZAN #1 ADAM HUGHES 1:50 VIRGIN VARIANT (DYNAMITE) –This was selling a tad below cover price last week and has since bounced back (a little).  There have been multiple sales around $55 to $60 shipped.  There’s only one copy currently listed (in a  bundled set of all the covers for issue #1).  This variant could actually start climbing!

VENOMIZED #5 SANDOVAL 1:25 VARIANT (MARVEL) – Despite no major eBay flooding, this did drop from $80 to about $70.  That’s still a solid hold for a 1:25 variant.  There still aren’t many copies listed, so expect another jump by next week.

HOT – THIS TIME LAST YEAR

MINDBENDER #1 (SCOUT)– This time last year, MINDBENDER was doing well.  Cover A was selling for $13 shipped, Cover B for about $10 and the 1:15 Hester Variant at $30. The ComicsPro Variant were selling for $30-$40.  Now, you can get both the A & B cover together for $7 shipped.  The Hester Variant can be yours for $6.75 and the ComicsPro for as low as $9.75 (that also comes with cover A).

PESTILENCE #1  (AFTERSHOCK) – The standard cover went from selling for $12 last year to it’s woeful $1 (and $12.50 in a CGC 9.8, yikes!!).  The variant went from $20 to $5.  The EH! variants are actually still doing well with the limited to 100 cover selling for $50.

REGRESSION #1 (IMAGE) – The standard cover for REGRESSION sold for $10 last year, the TCM Limited (to 700 copies) variant sold for $30 and the Spawn variants were selling between $5-$8. The big variant for this was Cullen Bunn’s own variant that he sold on his site (limited to 300 copies).  Those were selling for $65-80.  They can all be had now for $1+shipping.  The biggest hurt was that Cullen Bunn store variant. The last copy sold was for a failed auction that ended at .99 cents.  It’s worth noting that you can’t currently find a copy for less than $44 (though none are selling).  All it needs is a nice Film or TV option to bring it back.

STAINED #1 1:5 JOCK VARIANT (451 MEDIA) – Dropped from last years height of $20 to cover price currently.

Z NATION #2 PARRILLO VIRGIN (DYNAMITE) – This was actually in COOL last year.  Not too long after, these Z-Nation variants went crazy.  They have since settled down to below or at ratio.  However, this variant is nowhere to be seen and is proving itself to be the most elusive of the Z Nation Virgin variants.

WARM

FLASH #46 MATTINA VARIANT (DC) – This is an awesome cover.  However, after a height of $11 shipped, it has slipped to cover price over the past few sales.

STAR WARS LAST JEDI ADAPTATION #1 1:10 KYLO REN MOVIE VARIANT (MARVEL)– This 1:10 is selling a little over ratio at $13 shipped.

COOL

BATGIRL AND THE BIRDS OF PREY #22 (DC)

BARRIER #1 & #2 (IMAGE) – Brian K. Vaughn is awesome. So, this is a must read for me. However, it’s just not doing much on eBay right now.  Issue #1 did see some sales that were $1 over cover, but generally selling at cover or a little less.

BPRD DEVIL YOU KNOW #6 MIGNOLA VARIANT (DARK HORSE)

DESPICABLE DEADPOOL #300 (MARVEL)

ISOLA #1 2ndPRINT & ISSUE #2 (IMAGE) – Man, how gorgeous is ISOLA #2 standard cover?  It’s probably my favorite cover this year.

JUSTICE LEAGUE NO JUSTICE #1 (OF 4) (DC)

LOVE AND AARDVARKS #1 (OF 1) (AARDVARK VANAHEIM)

MEDIEVAL SPAWN WITCHBLADE #1 (OF 4) (IMAGE) –I thought I traveled back to 1992 for a second when I saw this on the shelf.

ROCHELLE VOL 2 #1 (ANTARTIC PRESS)

SAVAGE TALES VAMPIRELLA ONE SHOT #1 (DYNAMITE)

WARHAMMER 40000 DEATHWATCH #1 (OF 4) (TITAN)

WORLD OF TANKS CITADEL #1 (OF 5) (DARK HORSE)

VENOM #1 (MARVEL) – Here’s another new Marvel book with WAY too many covers.  The 1:100 Stegman Variant is selling WAY under ratio at $40.

Great job Matt! I like the hot last year add. I missed the Stained Jock variant when it was released and want to add it to my PC. Thanks!

Excellent Matt as always. The Hot Last Year is a great addition.

I’m riding the hater wave for both the Cyborg #22 variant and the Venom #5 1:25.

Not a believer in either, Cyborg has done terrible in the Rebirth era for speculation and there are too many artists that do Venom better than Sandoval.

If Barrier ever goes to the dollar bin, I’m picking up stacks of them. Like Vaughan and expect to see, at some point, a lot of more of his work being adapted. Especially if Y the Last Man does well on FX.

  • Yeah I’ll echo the sentiment that the year lookback is great. I sold a couple copies of Pestilence for like 14 bucks shipped, glad I got rid of em! Still have some Regression sitting in a box somewhere.
