Little Giant OLD SCHOOL COMIC SHOW
This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to be invited up to the OLD SCHOOL COMIC SHOW put on by Little Giant Comics. The event was promoted as a truly old school comic show, no cosplay, no Batmobile, no 2 hour wait lines and none of the other stuff most of us “hard core comic show fans” have come to associate with what too many promoters call a “ComicCon” these days.
I am thrilled to report that it was in fact this was an old school comic show NOT a pop culture festival. Incredible dealers from the New England area, as well as a couple that made the trip from further away, including a well known show dealer from California. Not to mention artists and creators (Al Milgrom was there!!).
I only had a few hours to enjoy the show, so I moved fast, said “hey now” to the locals I knew, got to meet Matt DiMasi of SHATTERED COMICS fame(super nice guy!) and of course did a little shopping.
WHAT WAS HOT : Hulk 181 Shattered Variant, Dollar Boxes, Eternals #1, Carol Danvers stuff and Golden Age.
What was NOT : Non Keys seemed to be littering some of the walls of the smaller dealers alongside complete sets/runs which seemed to be getting no interest.
What was missing: There was an incredible lack of cosplayers, photo ops, non comic pop culture booths were all absent from this event.
What was common : Everyone seemed to have Batman Adventures #12. Also seemed to be a lot of Giant Size X-Men 1 floating around the room.
Best of the Show: Getting the VIP treatment from Jason and the Little Giant Comics team. Seeing so many incredible Golden Age comics in one place. Truly staggering selection with affordable prices from at least 5 dealers.
Worst of the Show: Small misunderstanding over a page count with a Golden Age book that was purchased. I was less than thrilled to find the centerfold half missing… Reached out to the dealer.
*UPDATE: Was able to get in touch with Nick from Nick’s Comics in Middleton. Was clearly just a misunderstanding. Was IMMEDIATELY resolved by Nick, which I truly appreciate.
It’s good to be reminded that mistakes do happen from time to time, but given the chance, folks in our hobby are happy to make things right. Glad to have this resolved, and I will certainly be stopping by Nick’s booth at the next show.
And now, some pics I got to take(and one someone else snapped).
THE FOLKS FROM LITTLE GIANT COMICS SETTING UP
TERRY’S COMICS WAS JUST ONE OF THE “BIG” DEALERS WITH AN AMAZING STOCK
EVEN THE “SMALLER” SETUPS WERE LOADED WITH GREAT BOOKS (Sensational Comics shown)
JASON AND MATT SHOWING OFF THE NEWEST SHATTERED COMIC : HULK 181!!!!
Lastly I would be remiss if I did not give a huge THANKS to Jason Brodnick, his lovely wife and the whole LGC team. I look forward to the next show my friends!!
