The Weekend After Wednesday for 4/14/18
Want to know which books from yesterday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long-term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 4/11/18. They could still be at your shop.
DUCKTALES #8 1:10 FLINTHEART VARIANT (IDW) – These 1:10 DUCKTALES variants have been sure bets lately. While this isn’t burning up the back market, it’s selling for a decent $23 shipped. It’s pretty much the only book this week that held any significant profit.
LAST WEEK UPDATE
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #798 1:100 ROSS VIRGIN VARIANT (MARVEL) – Unfortunately, like most Alex Ross variants, this fell from $150 to $110. Still, that’s pretty much at ratio (or close). It’s weird, after all the debate, I haven’t heard a peep about Red Golbin since last week.
DEATHSTROKE #30 (VS BATMAN) (DC) – This fantastic Mattina cover dropped one dollar and is holding around $9 shipped.
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG #1 1:100 VARIANT (IDW) –After hitting a height of $144 last week, this has since settled to pre-launch prices of $50-$60 shipped. While I appreciate the fact that I can now buy one cheaply, why was there such a drop? Well, for being a 1:100 incentive for a generally low order title, it sure had a lot of copies hitting eBay over the past week. Roughly, there have been about 50+ copies. While that’s not tremendously excessive, it is enough of a flood to drag the price down. It didn’t help that this is technically not a true 1:100 incentive. Instead of ordering 100 copies to get this variant, stores had to commit to 25 copies of each issue (1 through 4). So, technically, it IS a 1:100 variant… just spread out. I still want it.
CAPTAIN AMERICA #700 ROSS 1:50 VARIANT (MARVEL) – There was one person hunting this hard at my LCS on Wednesday. It is a nice cover. Like you will see with Domino, these are just barely under ratio $46. Some sell a little lower and others a little higher. If you want one, just wait a week or two when it’s $30.
DOMINO #1 CAMPBELL 1:50 VARIANT (MARVEL) – This was clearly the top variant to chase this week. I didn’t see any copies come through my LCSs. It hit a height of $80 on Wednesday and has settled to $44 to $50 shipped. It will be interesting to see how it does long term. Campbell pretty much watered the value down of this incentive by creating and selling his own store variants for this title.
RICK & MORTY PRESENTS THE VINDICATORS #1 2ND PRINT (ONI)– This 2ndprint is doing decently at $8 to $9 shipped. Surprisingly, there are only 7 copies listed. With that said, I don’t think the demand is quite there enough for this title that would warrant you to rush out and buy this particular cover.
SUPERMANSION #1 (OF 2) (TITAN)– Like Rick & Morty, all covers for SUPERMANSION are selling for a $1.50 over cover (about $9 shipped). This is also not heavily listed. With it being only 2 issues, it doesn’t have much of a chance to skyrocket in value.
A FRACTURED MIND #1 (RED 5)
BROTHERS DRACUL #1 (AFTERSHOCK)
CRUDE #1 (IMAGE)– Selling for cover
DEAD HAND #1 (IMAGE)
EXILES #1 (MARVEL) – All the variants are selling for under ratio.
GRIMM FAIRY TALES: TALES OF TERROR VOL 4 #1– While this book is cool, the C2E2 Rogue Variants are doing well. The limited to 250 variant sells for $50 and the limited to 100 Z-Rated version sells for $200.
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #28 “B” MATTINA VARIANT (DC)
MAD MAGAZINE #1 (DC)
PINK PANTHER VS INSPECTOR #1 (AMERICAN MYTHOLOGY)
RESIDENT ALIEN #1 (OF 4) ALIEN IN NEW YORK (DARK HORSE)
ROBOCOP CITIZENS ARREST #1 (BOOM)– I’m a huge Robocop fan. I generally like the 1:15 virgin Towe variant. I did try hunting for a copy this past Wednesday. However, not a single store around ordered more than a handful of the standard copies. I guess it didn’t matter since copies are only selling for $14 shipped. You can also buy a copy for $9.99 (with best offer turned on). It’s a nice reminder that hard to find doesn’t always equal $.
ROSE #10 LOOPEYDAVE VARIANT (IMAGE)– Selling for cover
SCOOBY APOCALYPSE #24 “B” HAIRSINE VARIANT (DC) – These disappeared in about 5 minutes after both my shops opened. I guess people expected the same heat from issue #23. However, it’s only selling for cover.
SEASON OF THE SNAKE #1 (TITAN)
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG #2 1:25 VARIANT (IDW)– Thanks to the heat from the 1:100 variant, I know folks were watching this variant closely to see how it would do. However, it’s selling under ratio at $20 shipped.
STAR WARS THRAWN #3 1:25 RAHZZAH VARIANT (MARVEL)– These 1:25 variants can’t quite live up to the heat that the 1:50 Mattina has done.
SUPERGIRL #20 ARTGERM “B” VARIANT (DC) – While still absolutely gorgeous, stores are ordering plenty of copies. It’s a “stay away” spec for now. Still, i plan on buying one for my PC though. A graded set of these would look fantastic.
TRUE BELIEVERS INFINITY GAUNTLET #1 (MARVEL)
TRUE BELIEVERS THANOS RISING #1 (MARVEL)
VENOMIZED #2– the 1:25 Bagley variant is fun and not doing terribly. However, it is still selling under ratio at $21 shipped.
