The Weekend After Wednesday for 4/8/18 (Late Edition)

Want to know which books from Wednesday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” (late edition) list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long-term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 4/4/18. They could still be at your shop.

HOT

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #798 1:100 ROSS VIRGIN VARIANT (MARVEL)– Even just thinking about writing about the whole “1stRed Goblin” debate already gives me a headache.   So, I’m not going to even touch it.  I’ve already laid out my thoughts in previous articles.  Copies of the standard cover are selling for $4-$8. However, there is a huge amount of copies listed.  We all know that this issue is greatly overprinted.  It’s safe to say that no one is going to get rich off this issue. However, the awesome news is Alex Ross is getting some love!  The 1:100 virgin variant is selling for $110 to $143 (which is an auction that is still climbing).  Ross variants tend to have steep week after drops… so we’ll see if having the Red Goblin in this actually helps it to retain some value.  One little criticism though, why didn’t they have Red Goblin on the cover?  I assume it’s because of the whole Legacy thing.  But seriously, imagine what this would go for if RG WERE on the cover. Still, this is a small victory for fans of Mr. Ross.

DEATHSTROKE #30 (VS BATMAN) (DC) – This fantastic Mattina cover A is an easy $10 shipped.  I have no idea why they choose the variant B cover for the C2E2 foil.   However, it is nice to not have a foil overshadow the regular cover.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG #1 (IDW) –If anyone here has ever owned a Genesis then you (like myself) have a great fondness for Sonic.  With the exception of his first appearance, there’s really no expensive variant for our favorite blue Hedgehog… until now. Throughout the week, the 1:100 was selling for $60-70.  By Friday, it was a steady $90.  And then by Saturday, it hit $144.  Granted, cheaper copies are still available ($95 at the least)… but still.  I can’t tell you how bad I want one and really wish I didn’t miss out on the lower prices this week.  It was incredibly hard to find.  None of my stores received any of the incentives.  That’s how under ordered this book is (word is retailers had to buy 25 copies of each issue for #1 through #4 to get 1 copy of this “1:100″… still tough).  The rest of the variants aren’t bad either.  Here’s the “Run” down:

C2E2: $60 shipped

DIAMOND SUMMIT:  $55 shipped

WONDERCON: $35 shipped

1:25 KNIGHT: $18 shipped

1:10 FOURDRAINE: $17 shipped

COVER B: $9 shipped

COVER A: COVER

VENOMIZED #1 DELL’OTTO 1:50 & 1:25 VARIANT (MARVEL)– The bootylicious 1:50 Dell”Otto is selling for a steady $60.  It seems primed to go a little higher.  But man, once you notice Venom's posterior, it's really hard to NOT notice it.  The 1:25 is only selling for $18 shipped.  I guess it needs more butt.

LAST WEEK UPDATE

MOON GIRL AND DEVIL DINOSAUR #29 (MARVEL)– Only the cheaper copies (around $10 shipped) are selling.

SHADOWMAN (2018) #1 GLOW IN THE DARK 1:250 VARIANT– This 1:250 variant is still selling for $300+.  There are only 2 copies listed as I write this.

WARM

Nothing warm this week

COOL

ALL NEW WOLVERINE #33 (MARVEL) – Love future stories like this. I’m on board for the Old Woman Laura storyline.  However, I don’t love Gabby’s costume design.  I’m sure it works for the story.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #797 2ND– Many sales have been one dollar over cover price at a grand total of $4.99.  However, copies can be had for as low as $3.50.

ANALOG #1 (IMAGE)– This book looks cool.  Definitely on my “to read’ this week.

AVENGERS SHARDS OF INFINITY #1 (MARVEL)

BATMAN #44 (DC)– Great mirroring A&B covers.  However, these are overshadowed by not just a silver foil (C2E2)…. but also gold foils (Fan Expo).  So far, this is only for the Catwoman variant.  However, I’m sure the Batman cover is not too far behind.

DANGER DOLL SQUAD GALACTIC GLADIATORS #1 (ACTION LAB)

DEMI-GOD #1 (IDW)

GIDEON FALLS #1 2ND PRINT (IMAGE)

HELM #1 (ACTION LAB)

ISOLA #1 (IMAGE)– The con variants are stealing any thunder for the standard A cover and B Variant.  The C2E2 Retailer Summit variant is selling for $35 and the Image Booth C2E2 variant is selling at $40.

PORTAL BOUND #1 (ASPEN)

ROM TALES OF SOLSTAR ORDER #1 (IDW)

RUGRATS R IS FOR REPTAR 2018 SPECIAL #1 (KABOOM)

SPAWN #284 MATTINA (IMAGE)– I always complain about store variants doing exactly what Image did for this; producing a standard, B&W and virgin variant.  While I'm disappointed at the easy trade dress changes, at least they’re learning and producing some amazing covers like this (unlike one major publisher).  Honestly, this is one of my favorite Spawn covers.  Luckily, these are very affordable as they’re all selling for cover.

STAR TREK DISCOVERY ANNUAL 2018 (IDW)

SWASHBUCKLERS SAGA CONTINUES #1 (DYNAMITE)

THANOS 15 3RD PRINT (MARVEL)

THANOS 16 2nd PRINT (MARVEL)

TINSELTOWN #1 (ALTERNA)

VAMPBLADE SEASON 3 #1 (ACTION LAB)

WELCOME TO PARADISE #1 (SCOUT)

WWE WRESTLEMANIA 2018 SPECIAL #1 (BOOM)

XERXES FALL OF HOUSE OF DARIUS #1 (OF 5) (DARK HORSE)– Frank Miller is awesome and a legend.  However, you can really tell when certain covers get less of his attention. I feel like this was one of those.

ZERO JUMPER #1 (OF 4) (ALTERNA)
