The Wednesday One – 3/7

wednesday

Welcome to the night before Wednesday One! 3/7

Warning ASM 797 Red Goblin hype overload! Don't worry there are all sorts of other books for those tired of it. I'm starting to grow weary of it, but every time I flip an ASM book I'm less so. Let's take a look at what this week has to offer, maybe there is a “One.” I don't think it will be nice to my wallet unfortunately.

Flipdipskys

Amazing Spider-Man Vol 4 #797 Cover A Regular Alex Ross Cover

Red Goblin hype train. 797 will have a big print run with a number of regular variants and store variants. These Ross covers are great and it seems, judging from 796, that people want these issues regardless if something significant happens. Sold out everywhere it seems. This black cover will make nm+ tough. I'm grabbing a few and I ordered a small stack a few weeks ago. Everything I hear is that there is no RG yet in this issue. I think Marvel is going to milk it like crazy and make 799-800 mimic 299-300, but who knows. If you do let me know!!!

Amazing Spider-Man Vol 4 #797 Cover E Incentive Aaron Kuder Young Guns Variant Cover

This is probably my least fav of the YG variants so far. I think it is too much dead space, but it is still good. I will grab one anyway. I say try not to pay much over cover. The only YG variant so far that has really taken off was the X-23 Pepe iirc. That being said RG hype train is undeniable so who knows. Either way, these almost virgin covers have been cool.

Amazing Spider-Man Vol 4 #795 Cover C 2nd Ptg Variant Mike Hawthorne Cover

I usually don't buy into 2nd prints, but the others have had some quick flip action. This was the 1st app of Norman as Carnage, but to me, a 2nd print isn't the 1st app. I'm going to grab one at least maybe 2-3 if I can find some cherry copies to flip. That black cover will be tough. I hear that this might ship over 2 weeks which might increase the chance of a good flip. Might hit double or triple cover in nm+.

Amazing Spider-Man Vol 4 #797 Cover D Incentive Ed McGuinness Design Variant

I usually don't dig on design variants, but if you can get this one at or right over cover there might be a flip in it. The Red Goblin hype is real. Presales around $20.

Avengers Vol 6 #683 Cover A Regular Mark Brooks Cover

Brooks still on fire and this Avengers run is hot! Last week Hulk was back and I can't wait to see what happens next. Some of these heat up to double or triple cover, but 681 didn't do much and 682 had ups and downs.

True Believers Venom vs Spider-Man #1

These will sell for years to come. I think I ordered 30 or 50 I can't remember. These reprints usually go for $2-3 anyway long term, but this one should be a great long-term seller. Either way, they are only $1.

Call Of The Suicide Forest #2 Cover B Incentive Pasqual Ferry Variant Cover

#1 seemed to flip well. I'm not a believer, but others are. Both the regular cover and the variant seems to be sold out online. Quick flip if anything.

Rick And Morty Presents The Vindicators #1 Cover A Regular CJ Cannon & Nick Filardi Cover

I'm Jon Snow when it comes to R&M, but everyone is talking about the 1st app of some guy named Rick and his pickle. I dunno, but it sounds a lot like getting Rickrolled. I'll grab a copy if I see it at my lcs.

Cool Covers

Amazing Spider-Man Vol 4 #797 Cover C Variant Clayton Crain Mighty Thor Cover

I'm on the fence with this cover. The ASM hype might even make this a flip like that stupid 795 big rat variant.

Infinity Countdown #1 Cover C Variant Adi Granov Captain Marvel Holds Infinity Cover

This Granov is really great. I am grabbing a couple for the old PC.

She-Hulk Vol 3 #163

A lot of people love this cover. I like a lot of Rahzzah, but I'm not totally sold on this cover.

Walking Dead #177 Cover B Variant Bill Sienkiewicz Cover

I'm collecting the set. They are hit and miss with folks.

 Dreamless #1

Interesting premise and a cool cover. It says it is a printing of a webcomic. I haven't heard anything about it, but if my lcs has one I might grab it.

Harley Quinn Vol 3 #39 Cover B Variant Frank Cho Cover

Cho has had a great run with these HQ b covers.

Assassins Creed Origins #1 Cover A Regular Stephanie Hans Cover

I'm not crazy for this cover, but I hear others are digging it and Hans is hot right now. AC is a popular game, but I hate Ubisoft so I never play them.

Green Lanterns #42 Cover B Variant Brandon Peterson Cover

These Peterson covers have a certain style I dig. I don't know if I'll grab it though.

Uber Invasion #12 Cover E War Crimes Cover

Reminds me of an old metal album cover.  Cool, but I'm going to skip.

Harley & Ivy Meet Betty & Veronica #6 Cover B Variant Jae Lee Cover

The Lotay cover A isn't too shabby, but something about this Lee is just fun.

Skip it

I didn't see anything awful.

Read it

Doctor Star And The Kingdom Of Lost Tomorrows From The World Of Black Hammer #1 Cover A Regular Max Fiumara Cover

I love the Black Hammer world and can't wait.

Batman White Knight #6 Cover A Regular Sean Murphy Cover

Series is great and always a top read for me.

Oblivion Song By Kirkman & De Felici #1

This has some hype behind it, but I think it was probably over ordered. There is a $200 collectors edition pack that doesn't strike my fancy but might heat up. I hear it is a good, not amazing read. I will def be reading it. The advanced copy had issues 1-4 in it and heated up, but came back down. I'm trying to see if I can get one from my lcs.

Prism Stalker #1

I don't know what to think about this new ongoing Image title. I'm going to flip thru it at my lcs to see if it grabs me.

 Injustice 2 #21

I like this crazy book.

Gideon Falls #1 Cover C Variant Jock Cover

This has some hype, but I don't think it is a flip. I like Lemire and will def grab a copy. This Jock cover is the best imo. I hear there is a secret cover and that one might grab a little heat, but I don't think so.

 Galaktikon #5

Powell craziness. I'm behind and need to catch up.

Batman Vol 3 #42 Cover B Variant Olivier Coipel Cover

Not one of the better Coipel covers. Bats is a pull book.

Doctor Strange Damnation #2 Cover A Regular Rod Reis Cover

If Cates is writing I am reading!

Superman Vol 5 #42 Cover A Regular Patrick Gleason Cover

1st app of a different bizarro boy iirc. I always have supes on my pull. Grab whichever cover you like as he is on both. I'm grabbing a set.

Wicked + The Divine #34 – I don't read this, but I know a lot of people do. One day I want to grab a few trades and give it a shot.

I Hate Fairyland #17 Cover B Variant Skottie Young F*ck Fairyland Cover – I collect these. It is a fun book.

Fix #11 – Another book I hear good thing about.

Highest House #1 – Sounds interesing. I might give it a chance.

Notes

  • True Believers Venom Sybiosis #1 – It is a $1 and these reprints often fetch $2-$3. It won't do as well as the ASM #300 though.
  • Bloodshot Salvation #7 Cover F Incentive Bob Layton Bloodshot Icon Variant Cover is the high ratio Valiant flip for the week.
  • Thanos Vol 2 #13 Cover G 3rd Ptg Variant Geoff Shaw Cover – If you missed the first 2 printings here is a third.

Bonus look back – how did last week do a week later?

How did last week's spec end up doing? We take a look at last week's predictions and see if we did OK one week later!!!

(Last week's spec will be quoted like this. What it really did will look like this.)

Avengers Vol 6 #682 Cover A Regular Mark Brooks Cover –  I think it maybe goes for double cover Wednesday.  All over. The regular cover seems to be going for cover or right over. The chase variant seems to be $6-10 and the Bradshaw is climbing up to $30.

Spawn #283 Cover A Regular Francesco Mattina (B cover is B&W of the same cover) –  I think sets will flip for $15-20 with undercutting on Wednesday. – Seems to have settled around $10 ea or $20 sets

Black Panther Vol 6 #170 Cover D Incentive Marco Checchetto Young Guns Variant Cover –  I think $10-15 is what they will sell for. Try to get at or right over cover. – Mostly ~$10

All-New Wolverine #31 Cover B Variant Hulk Smash Cover –  I think it goes a few dollars over cover, but not quite double cover Wednesday. Selling ~$5-10

Peter Parker Spectacular Spider-Man #300 Cover F Incentive Alex Ross Variant – I think it stays around $35 personally. These seem to be selling ~$70. I missed out and hope to grab one eventually.

Thanos Vol 2 #16 – I think it has a chance to get up to $15.  Seems to be all over some at cover, but many double cover to ~$10

X-Men Blue #22 Cover B Incentive David Nakayama Poison X Variant – These are selling over $100 already and 1 sold for $180 which is bonkers. No spec given – $60-70 for a while, but seems to be dropping down to around $50. Def makes it a good flip.

Amazing Cerebus #1 – Seems to be going for double cover. ASM 300 swipes are usually popular anyway. I think it stays cover to double cover long term. – Right over cover price it seems.

Jim Hensons Labyrinth #1 Cover E Incentive Bill Sienkiewicz Virgin Variant –  I think it sits around $50.  $35-40 seems to be the going rate.

Ducktales Vol 4 #6 Cover C Incentive Blueprint Character-Focused Variant Cover I’m not a believer, but I know a lot of people are. Hard to say what these are going for. I couldn’t really find any sales except 1. I think people are hoarding these. – Several sales around $40

 Double Bonus.

Amazing Spider-Man Vol 4 #794 Cover C 2nd Ptg Variant Stuart Immonen CoverNone gave. ~$10-$15 which is nice.

Wrap up

Another week of goodness, but there is no “One.” I'm curious how the ASM #797 fares on Wednesday. I think copies will flood like crazy, but we will see. I'm more looking forward to a few key reads than anything else. What are Y'all grabbing this week? Did I miss anything and how do you feel about the Red Goblin? Please let me know down below and as always thanks for reading.

  • Got to feel bad for those that spent $100, $200, $300 for that Homage ASM #797. Not a first appearance cameo, full, or even a first RG cover.

    • Lebednik

Some people have tons of money and it doesn’t matter to them. But, yeah some might have learned a hard lesson on the gamble of spec.

    • I guess so, but this one encapsulates what is wrong with the store variants. One, it was just an ugly cover that looked like my air brushed “RHAS” t-shirt from Panama City Beach in 1987. Two, the mainstream collector doesn’t know/care about the store variants – Cover A is always still the one to bet on.

    • Yeah, but that’s the risk of trying to make money off of any speculated item. I think by now everyone from the readers to the LCS and Marvel is aware of the hype of Red Goblin so the following issues will surely have larger orders and won’t be hard to come by. Same with Thanos, #13 kind of flew under the radar with Cosmic Ghost Rider but now everyone is on that run just like they are with ASM. Will be interesting to see how it plays out over the next few issues

    • I honestly think people want that homage just because it’s that particular homage, and because it was so sought after from the get-go. I don’t see the prices dipping a whole lot no matter what happens in the guts of 797. Maybe I’m wrong, though.

      • Lost out on getting the homage in a pre-sale so compensated by getting the Dell’Otto convention set. Hoping it turns out in the long run as pics of the Virgin cover look amazing! Can’t wait to see it IRL.

I’m in the camp that ASM 800 will be the first full appearance of Red Goblin. At a $10 cover, Marvel is going to kill LCSs that week as shops will loading up for the rush. Like the Dell’Otto cover as well but priced out already for the Virgin (1:200).

  • Haha you sound like an old man talking about Rick and Morty. The first appearance of Tiny Rick is a 20$ book, and Pickle Rick is even more popular. Book of the week for sure.

    • Lebednik

Lol, I’m not too old yet. Although those damn kids with their music need to stay off my lawn!

Yeah. This might actually be the “one” in hindsight. I’m really curious to see how it heats up.

  • Cover for Venom vs. Spider-Man should be updated. Previews shows wrong cover. Marvel website has correct one.

  • UltraMaximus

Superman has a Jonboy Meyers variant that is a Bizarro swipe of this volumes #1 that went under the radar like a bunch of other Myers covers, including the ones from the Deathstroke story.

  • PICKLE RIIIICCCKKKK!!!!

  • Sdalton

This week I like the B cover by Shane Davis on Deathstroke #29.

  • That she-hulk cover is utterly amazing!

  • stevemcqueen

Not sure why Highest House #1 didn’t make it at least to the cool covers list.

  • How about that Moon Girl #28?? Sold one for $50 and another for $60… seems to be pretty hot right now.. but copies look to be flooding the bay right now…

  • I’m at my LCS looking in the window waiting for the last ten min until they open. I see a Red Goblin design so I’ll be grabbing that then looking for rick and Morty and a Gideon falls virgin. And a few other cool things too I’m sure.

    • Lebednik

      how did u make out?

      • I got the design variant was 10$ so that wasn’t too bad. Got 2 r&m vindicators, one a solid 9.8 candidate. Got a regular cover for asm 797 a jock Gideon Falls cover, almost bought the virgin instead but the jock was in nicer shape and overall a better cover. They had the newest tpb for the manga bleach which is my fav manga and something I’ve been waiting for, for a long while now. Forgot the She hulk cover but called em as I was getting home so one is being held for me. I made it to moon girl 28s just in time to see someone grab all 5 beat up copies so no luck on that one but as I mentioned above I doubt it will hold that value…. too many copies. The other book I grabbed was the Skottie Young variant for The Spider King. I only paid 6$ so it was a no brainer plus an easy 9.8; an almost flawless book. Plus I don’t see many listed. The one auction is over 20 already and all 3-4 BINs are between 30-50. So this could end up being my best find if this book is as rare as it seems to be so far. I also bought one of those GL b covers but not this weeks, I believe it’s the one b4 the latest one.

  • Grabbed quite a few. ASM 797, 795 2nd print. Avengers 676, 678, 682, 683. Avengers 677, 678 2nd prints. True Believers 1 Venom vs Spider-Man. Rick and Morty presents The Vindicators 1 and another copy of Stabbity Bunny 1 for cover. I also ordered ASM 797, Gideon Falls 1 (Jock cover) and Oblivion Song online which I’m still waiting for. I have never watched Rick and Morty but this new book might get me interested.

  • UltraMaximus

After Reading the Vindicators, it has not only Pickle Rick’s 1st story appearance, Noob-Noob’s 1st Comic appearance, but Scary Terry adopts the new name “SCAREPOOL” a blatant Marvel rip off that doesn’t stop there with the 1st Appearance of the “Infinity Balls” rounding out the issue.
100% Fan Service in the remainder of the book but isn’t that what the fans want?

  • misfit138

ASM #136 is the first Red Goblin appearance. 🙂

  • misfit138

Picked up my Moon Girl 28 for cover today. Happy.

  • misfit138

ASM 797 McGuiness Var will probably be the first RG appearance because it shows the RG and it calls him by name.

  • Have Rick and Morty Vindicators in my box, never watched the show or read the comics, but guess I can resell them..lol.

Also plan on getting Avengers, Batman, Deathstroke, Jetsons, Nightwing, Superman, Gideon Falls, Oblivion Song, Captain America, Thanos 13 3rd print, Venom True Believers x10, Venom 163, and Batman White Knight.

Will try for the Young Gun variant as well. Crossing fingers.

  • accustomfigures

Check the comments, I’ve said it before. ASM #799 first Red Goblin.

  • Infinity Countdown Granov variant was hard to find. I found 1 copy in 2 stores. It’s a really nice cover and may be hard to find. eBay sales are in line with the incentive covers. $5-$10. Not a huge score, but could have legs if they dry up.
