The Wednesday One – 01/24

Welcome to the night before Wednesday One! 1/24

Welcome to another Wednesday. Day 12 of being sick. I'm better than I was, but damn this thing is no joke. It is making it hard to keep up with the funny books. They are a good escape though. There is a “One” this week and it is a great cover. A good number of books to read and some awesome covers to squirrel away in the old PC. Let's jump right in.

Phoenix Resurrection Return Of (Adult) Jean Grey #4 Cover D Incentive Mukesh Singh Variant

The “One.” This cover is hot and seems to be going for right over ratio (~$30). I hope to grab one from my lcs this week. I think this one will be popular for a long time as it is beautiful.

Marvel Two-In-One Vol 3 #2 Cover B Variant Gabriele Dell Otto Avengers

This one seems to be hard to get. My lcs didn't get any so I wonder if there was a strange qualifier. I grabbed a few online. I have seen a few going for double cover. I really like this Otto and it seems like so many of his covers are high ratios so one for cover is a must grab. I think this one stays double cover give or take. I wouldn't go big on it, probably more a PC book.

Cool Covers

Raven Daughter Of Darkness #1 Cover B Variant Bill Sienkiewicz Cover

Bill seems to be doing some of his better work lately. I feel like he had a lull last year.

Wonder Woman Vol 5 #39 Cover B Variant Jenny Frison Cover

Jenny has been killing it and this one is another to grab for the PC. Plus this is on my pull.

 Monstress #13

Sana is amazing. This book is amazing. This should be on everyone's pull list.

Legion (Marvel) #1 Cover C Incentive TV Variant Cover 1:10

The colors in this cover are awesome and the TV show has had success. I still need to jump on it.

Phoenix Resurrection Return of Jean Grey #4 Cover B Variant In-Hyuk Lee Jean Grey

Lee has been on a roll lately. I will be adding this to my PC.

Now #2

This is crazy in so many ways. This is so well done and I love the colors. The stuff of nightmares though.

Other Notables

Abbott #1 Cover C Variant Tula Lotay Cover – Has a great feel.

Batgirl Vol 5 #19 Cover B Variant Joshua Middleton Cover – This is good, but his others have been better. Take a look and see if you like it.

Skip it

I didn't see anything that was super no which is good.

Touted as “An epic genre mash-up: horror, humor, crime, and science fiction!” It sounds crazy and I'll give it a read.

Sherlock Frankenstein And The Legion Of Evil #4 Cover A Regular David Rubin Cover

The Black Hammer Universe is good so far. I am behind but plan on catching up soon.

Doomsday Clock #3 Cover B Variant Gary Frank Cover

If you aren't in you should be. There is so much to be revealed it is exciting to pick up.

Flash is on my pull and has been solid. These numbered variants have done well so far so grab the B cover if this is your Jam also.

Thanos Vol 2 #15

Cates has been killing it and this is a hot read. Plus we learn who the Cosmic Ghost Rider is! This one might even get a little heat.

Detective Comics Vol 2 #973 Cover B Variant Rafael Albuquerque Cover

Always on my pull and the end is pretty cool.

Maestros #4 – I really like the art in this book, but time will tell how the story does.

Nightwing The New Order #6 – The last issue. The trade will be out before too long if you aren't reading it currently.

Black Magick #10 Cover B Variant Tula Lotay Cover – I'm behind on this, I might wait for the next trade to catch up I liked what I read so far and It was optioned.

Gasolina #5 – I read the first 2 and they were good. I know a few people that read it and say it is good. I want to catch up, but we will see.

Redneck #9 – Donny is hot and this book is still going strong.

Justice League Of America Vol 5 #23 Cover B Variant Doug Mahnke Cover – This has some buzz I think some new character (Promethea?) is joining the JLA, but I'm not sure. I'm going to flip thru it at my lcs.

Abbott #1 Cover C Variant Tula Lotay Cover – Sounds okay. I might flip thru it. The Lotay cover is cool.

  • X-O Manowar Vol 4 #11 Cover E Incentive Jay Anacleto X-O Manowar Icon Variant and Ninja-K #3 Cover E Incentive Tomas Giorello Ninjak Icon Variant are 2 high ratio Valiant to keep an eye out for. If you find em cheap enough, flip them bad boys.

  • Avengers Vol 6 #677 – iirc we are still expecting a new character Challenger.

Bonus look back – how did last week do a week later?

How did last week's spec end up doing? We take a look at last week's predictions and see if we did OK one week later!!!

(Last week's spec will be quoted like this. What it really did will look like this.)

Amazing Spider-Man Venom Venom Inc Omega #1 Cover B Incentive Gabriele Dell Otto – Not his best work, but seems to be selling for around $100. I figure it will stay around that or go down a little. This is still around $100 give or take. One went for $65 anther for $120, but most ~$100.

Cool cover and skip look back. Double Bonus.

Teether #1 – Cool cover no prediction – This is all over the place. cover to 3x cover.

Ice Cream Man #1 – I had this as a read. no spec. – This heated up but seems to have settled around double cover. I think this is a one-shot so dump em quick.

Call of the suicide forest #1 – Not on any list – This jumped up, but has settled at a few $ over cover.

A read look back. Triple bonus!

Avengers Vol 6 #676 – No spec. – This book is being considered the 1st full app of Voyager. This was hitting $15-20 a copy and then undercutting brought it back down to cover. If you can grab one for cover it is probably a good idea. This has a chance to have long-term legs.

The “One” is a great cover and there a lot of great books this week. Some great reveals (Thanos) and crazy endings (Tec). Thanks as always for reading. Let me know if I missed anything. What are you looking forward to this week? Let me know and have a happy Wednesday.

  • Lebednik

Right after I drop this, Thanos #15 is going for ~$15 so def grab for a flip.

  • UltraMaximus

    Spot on as always brother!

  • Avatar

Dude, get on Legion. I am not a fan of the FOX “X-Men” stuff, but Legion is the exception. Really good. And X-O #11 and Ninja-K #3 1:50 variant, yeah flip them, but for those that actually read comics, those are great stories.

    • Lebednik

I think it will be my next binge.

I heard there is a ninja-g coming next. I want to try to read some Valiant, but it is hard to keep up with my pull already.

      • Avatar

You are correct. Seems a bit on the nose to me as she’s the 70’s era MI6 Ninja, but it’s still a great read. There should be one per letter up to Ninja-K or Ninjak, who is the current MI6 ninja. Regardless, any Valiant series or character is extremely accessible. They only have about 5 titles running at one time and none of them are currently past #11 (XO). If you don’t feel like catching up on a few issues add next month’s Shadowman #1 to your pull. This is the one a lot of folks have been waiting years for.

        • Lebednik

That is great info. I will check out shadowman

edit. it won’t let me reply for some reason.
Ninja-(letter)K and Ninjak are different from what I understand and pronounced differently.

          • tsouthammavong

How do you pronounce Ninjak? Is it Ninja-Kay (two words) or Nin-Jack (one word)?

I thought of this question when I heard Mel V said Ninja-Kay (two words) on the podcast. I always thought it was Ninjak (one word).

Awesome….what do you think of avengers 676 1:25? Also any thoughts on legion 1 1:25?

    • Lebednik

I wasnt a big fan of the Legion 1:25 cover, but it maybe a low print run. I did grab 2 of the 1:25 676 because first app and lower run. The cover isnt great.

    • Avatar

I grapped one of the 1:25 ratio for $10 in case Voyager takes off. If bought at the right price maybe but cover is a lame connecting so i’m not too optimistic.

  • Avatar

That Avengers 676 Davis variant is selling for 50 DOLLARS now?!?!

    • Lebednik

I haven’t see that yet. Last one I see on ebay sold for $13. I expect it to gain heat though.

edit. I read your post wrong. I was thinking the 1:25 was the Davis, but even then I only see them going for $15 give or take. I see people asking crazy for it which I don’t agree with. I think it stays $10-15.

      • Avatar

Yeah nevermind I’m an idiot, someone is asking 49.99 but looking at what’s sold the highest I see as of today is $30 for a set of the regular cover and the Davis Avengers Variant.

  • Avatar

How about that Popeye #65 Danovich variant eh!?

  • Avatar

    New character… promethea lol

    • Lebednik

I dont read jla or know anything about the character. Can you tell me about the character?

      • Avatar

Promethea was a series by Alan Moore and JH Williams on the ABC (America’s Best Comics) imprint — an offshoot of Wildstorm. Next level art by Williams and intricate plot by Moore, it and ran for about 32 issues from 1999 to 2005. It was always outside DC continuity until the recent reference in JLA and people are scrounging up the comics and HC editions for that reason. Definitely worth finding if only for Williams beautiful art alone.

        • Lebednik

Oh yeah. I vaguely remember reading about how they didnt tell the Williams guy and he read about it in a news article or something like that. I will definitely read it now. I’ll see if I can grab a digital copy. Thanks for the info!

  • theHallofComics

Ice Cream Man is an ongoing series – but it’s an anthology, so Image has been using “one shot” in its descriptions of the stories.

    • Lebednik

I didnt realize this. Some one else pointed this out to me. I didnt realize it is ongoing but each issue is its own book. I dont see that helping its spec value long term.

  • Avatar

Hmm almost time for the weekly LCS … should be a fun one and I am just gonna wing it, no plan today. Hopefully the Phoenix 1:25 will be there and is cheap.

    • Avatar

Well the Phoenix 4 1:25 was there but for 40$ I had to pass got the avengers 677 1:25 for 8$ The 1,000,000 BC avengers variant for 6$ love that cover almost bought 2 … I did buy 2 Thanos 15s and a Thanos 13 1st print a single copy just appeared on the shell n was cover price. Also got the Wonder Woman and Raven b covers and maybe some stuff I’m forgetting…. I’m walking home now I’ll post my haul soon enough.

  • Avatar

I just passed on that Phoenix variant for 15 bucks because of one spine tick. Full of regret.

  • Avatar

Is there a reason raven has another mini? I mean she’s a fine character and all but are people clamoring for more raven content?
