HOT 10 COMICS

hot10

1 Thanos #13 Rafael Albuquerque 1:25 Variant

WRITER: Donny Cates
ARTIST: Geoff Shaw
Well, this is now a $150 raw book.  This book has crept up-then stalled, crept up more-then leveled and now has once again gone up in value.  Cosmic Ghost Rider now seems to be moving into ‘must have 1st appearance' status.

2 X-Men #129

WRITER: Chris Claremont
ARTIST: John Byrne
News of a Kitty Pryde movie has caused her first appearance to jump back on the want lists of collectors.  Expect to pay $325+ for a graded 9.6 now.  Don't sleep on the UXM #522 Kitty Pryde variant either–not many of those available.

3 Venom, Inc. Alpha #1 Gabriele Dell'Otto 1:50 Variant

WRITER: Dan Slott
ARTIST: Ryan Stegman
This book has not only had staying power to this point, but continues to increase in value as it is now more than a $160 book.  I think the white background does this book a favor and makes Venom ‘pop' more.

4 Metal Tie-In's

WRITER: Various
ARTIST: Various
Nightwing #29 (shown), Green Arrow #32, Hal Jordan #32, TT #12 and others are all seeing an increase in price and are not easy to find in the wild.  Will these fade once the TPB's for Metal are released?  Maybe.  But it is fun hunting these at the moment.

5 Wonder Woman #609 Alex Garner 1:10 Variant

WRITER: J. Michael Straczynski
ARTIST: Don Kramer
This #600+ variant has joined the ranks of #601 & #614 as the most sought after in Garner's run.  None listed for sale at the moment and the last sale was $70+.

6 Lobo (Vol. 2) #63

WRITER: Allen Grant
ARTIST: Ariel Olivetti
So #64 is the last issue and that is now a $40+ book.  But there have been some sales of this #63 in the $20-30 range and no raws can be found at the moment.

7 Ultimate Spider-Man #159 Frank Cho 1:20 Variant

WRITER: Brian Michael Bendis
ARTIST: Mark Bagley
This was a $15-20 book for a while but saw an uptick and then a big swing up to $50+.  As well known as Cho is, I still think he is underrated overall and this is a really nice looking, hard to find variant of his.

8 Promethea #1

WRITER: Alan Moore
ARTIST: J.H. Williams III
This book was mentioned on comicbookscalping.com (feel free to go there for the write-up) and there have been a number of sales in the $15-20 range.  All copies of the variant cover were snatched up for cheap as well.

9 Classic Popeye #65 Len Danovich 1:10 Variant

WRITER: Various
ARTIST: Various
This book has taken on a life of its own like the Tsum Tsum 4 variant.  Gory and gruesome cover to a Popeye book has caused a lot of collectors to look for this book–but no one can find it.  A copy insta-sold on eBay for $20…expect the next one to go for much more.

10 Batman #666

WRITER: Grant Morrison
ARTIST: Andy Kubert
Mentioned by Topher in his True Firsts column, this has always been a book on my radar.  Damian as Batman of Bethlehem is just another book that should be in the ‘essentials' for Batman and Damian collectors.  Expect to pay $150 for 9.8's including shipping.

Action Comics #686 2nd Print DCU Variant

WRITER: Roger Stern
ARTIST: Jackson Guice
Say what you want about the DCU Variants, but a 9.4 of this book sold this week for $400.  To think that some of the DCU's are harder to find than this one…

Millie the Model #25

WRITER: Unknown
ARTIST: Unknown
So the 9.0 copy that sold this week is the highest copy on the census, granted there are only 2 on there.  $3800 is a crazy high number though as it only lists for around $300 in the guide.
