Christmas Wall-E, Turner, Artgerm

The public has spoken!  I am back with more ghosts!  As was the rule before, this is not necessarily a list of ‘valuable' books, just books that are either low printed or very hard to find (at the time of this writing) for whatever reason.  I am sharing books from my ‘look for' list because the thrill of the hunt is one of my favorite things about comics.  They are usually covers that I find interesting or great, but rarity does not always equal value–so don't think that you will automatically be able to retire when you locate one of them.  These are sometimes so hard to find though, that many of you may not even know that these exist. Put on your proton packs and let's go!

WALL-E #1 Christmas 1:10 Variant

Appx. Print Run: 594

Appx. NM Value: $10

Oh, lovable Wall-E, looking all cute with his Santa hat.  Well, at least that is what I assume is the case, since I have never seen this variant for sale.  I included 2 pics here that I found (1 with white lights and 1 with colored) as I can't even confirm which one is real and which one is a stock photo (or are they both real??).  Anyway, just wanted to start with some Christmas cheer.

Vampirella Strikes (Vol. 2) #1 Michael Turner 1:35 ‘Virgin' Variant

Appx. Print Run: 425

Appx. NM Value: $40

Mr. Turner, you are still missed in the comic book community.  Thank you for leaving this magnificent version of Vampi before you passed.  I missed out on this one about 8 months ago and really haven't seen it for sale since.  How many stores ordered 35+ copies of Vampirella?

A1 (Vol. 2) #1 Artgerm Cover A

Appx. Print Run: 1327

Appx. NM Value: $10

As many of you may know, I am a huge Artgerm fan, and this cover sits as one of my favorites of his (love the smirk).  That being said, it is impossible to find and I'm not sure exactly why since there should be more than 1000 of them out there.

Masters of the Universe (Vol. 3) #2 Brett Booth Variant

Appx. Print Run: ?

Appx. NM Value: ?

Full disclosure, I do own this book.  My hope is that others will be able to locate it so die-hard He-Man collectors can add it to their collection.  That being said, I've never seen this book for sale other than the one I stumbled upon in the wild.  There are other variants from this MVC run that are just as hard, if not harder, to locate.  I actually thought this was a Jim Lee cover at first…

Fistful of Blood #4 Simon Bisley 1:10 Variant

Appx. Print Run: 420

Appx. NM Value: $10

You either are a fan of Bisley or you don't like it at all.  Very distinct fantasy art that is heavy on dark tones.  By the time this series made it to issue #4, the print run was down to just above 4000 and most likely there were very few stores that even ordered 10 copies.  I've not seen this book for sale for quite some time.

Daken: Dark Wolverine #4 Marko Djurdjevic 1:75 Variant

Appx. Print Run: 410

Appx. NM Value: $60

I'm not really into Daken, but I do like Djurdjevic normally.  Is it bad that I like the background characters more than the main character on this cover?  Either way, this book is not easy to find as I was only able to locate a single SS copy being sold in the UK.

Findable (barely)

Ninjak (Vol. 2) #25 Jenny Frison 1:50 Variant

Appx. Print Run: 115

Appx. NM Value: $100

On that note, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  It will NOT be another year before I post more ghosts to hunt.

  • UltraMaximus

Absolutely missed this article. I love the challenges you have put forth and am really glad to see this back.
    Partially eidetic memory, activate!

  • jason jones

I am a grown-ass 39 year old man but am unashamed to admit that I love Wall E. I’ve never owned a Wall E comic, but I like this cover.

  • Khoi Cakes

Good to see this back Ben. Now you need to partner up with Mel V to pump and dump these lol

  • Awesome comeback here

  • I like that wall-e. Nice find!

  • Ben, I need that Wall e in the worst way. My kids have the original double sided movie poster in their rooms as they love that flick. This would go great with that as well! Thanks for sharing

  • I’ve been hunting for The Day After Wednesday column, there’s a real ghost

  • That is a BAD ass He-Man variant!! I’m on the hunt for it now. Lol

  • Hey,

Is that He-Man variant Volume 5 instead of Volume 3? I could be wrong though. It’s a great cover nonetheless.

    Love the article.

  • That Daken book is not some of Djuedjevic’s best work at all. The X 23 #4 (2010 series) Djurdjevic, on the other hand, is a much better cover , in a better title, with better subject matter and probably around only has ~500 copies printed, and really is impossible to find, especially in high grade. Only two 9.8 copies have made it to the census in 6 years.

  • Bryan

Love this Column!!!!!!!!!! Keep em coming.

  • That Frison Ninjak is so pretty. I absolutely love her soft tones and dark material. It’s like a fuzzy bunny with vicious, ferocious teeth waiting to rip your throat out. Like in “Monty Pythons: Search for the Holy Grail” lol
I laugh my ass off just reading the dialogue:

TIM: That’s the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on!

ROBIN: You tit! I soiled my armor I was so scared!

TIM: Look, that rabbit’s got a vicious streak a mile wide! It’s a killer!

    GALAHAD: Get stuffed!

TIM: He’ll do you up a treat, mate.

    GALAHAD: Oh, yeah?

    ROBIN: You mangy Scots git!

    TIM: I’m warning you!

ROBIN: What’s he do, nibble your bum?

TIM: He’s got huge, sharp– eh– he can leap about– look at the bones!

ARTHUR: Go on, Bors. Chop his head off!

BORS: Right! Silly little bleeder. One rabbit stew comin’ right up!

    TIM: Look!

    BORS: Aaaugh!

    [dramatic chord]

    ARTHUR: Jesus Christ!

    TIM: I warned you!

    ROBIN: I done it again!

TIM: I warned you, but did you listen to me? Oh, no, you knew it all, didn’t you? Oh, it’s just a harmless little bunny, isn’t it? Well, it’s always the same. I always tell them–

    ARTHUR: Oh, shut up!

TIM: Do they listen to me?

    ARTHUR: Right!

    TIM: Oh, no…

    KNIGHTS: Charge!

    [squeak squeak squeak]

    KNIGHTS: Aaaaugh!, Aaaugh!, etc.

    ARTHUR: Run away! Run away!

    KNIGHTS: Run away! Run away!…

TIM: Ha ha ha ha! Ha haw haw! Ha! Ha ha!
