Winners of the BCC Variant Set Announced! New Fan Expo Canada Contest!!!

Winners of the BCC Variant Set

Wow! That's a lot of hate for Eclipso: The Darkness Within #1 … I really enjoyed that comic when it came out (although I cannot recommend reading all the annuals in one go, as the tediousness of the task will soon have you forgetting who you are), so it gets a free pass from me. Actually, I have an almost full set of Eclipso appearances, so I might be biased.

Anyway, what were you guys commenting for? One of two sets of the following, that's what!!!

I asked for a best and worst gimmick, so I picked up the winners based on a best and worst gimmick I agreed with the most:

  • Christopher Hellyer: Cannot agree more! That DIY cover on Superman The Man of Steel #30 is a legend and I would love to see it happen more often.
  • bytemonkey: Even though most people wouldn't call it a gimmick cover (and coming from a person who's lost countless hours cataloguing them), negative covers are humanity at their absolute worst.

Congratulations and will email you soon to get your addresses!

New Contest: Fan Expo Canada Variant Set

Here's what we have for you this time, courtesy of the good folks at Fan Expo Canada (who happen to be the same people doing Boston Comic Con, so thanks again!).

Two sets of these wonderful covers are up for grabs! Each set will have a wonderful Phil Jimenez Sensation Comics #1 Variant (both standard and acetate covers) and an Artgerm Generations: All New Wolverine / Wolverine Variant (both color and copics covers).

Two great covers that taste great together, right? Three of the stars of this year's superhero movies that look ready to clash for supremacy. So here's my question to you this time: what comic based movie did you enjoy the most this year and why?

If you ask me, I would have to go with Twin Peaks because it's the best thing ever, but I am starting to understand that I am not the target audience for superhero movies. I kinda enjoy Marvel Studios' output even though they're starting to feel a bit like big budget versions of The A-Team episodes, I don't understand what DC is trying to do at all and struggle to finish their movies and Fox is just meh. Anyway, not that anyone cares.

I will close the comment section by Thursday. If you can't wait to get any of the comics mentioned here, just jump over to their online shop while they last!!!

  • I Really enjoyed Wonder Woman, but feel GOTG 2 was better in terms of action, humour, and keeping the captivity of the audience.

Looking forward to Thor Ragnarok even more. Can’t wait to see the costumes on display at Fan Expo!

    Cheers !!

  • I loved WW, felt like I was watching the latest Rucka run on the big screen.

  • I really enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as it continued the trend of making a C list character a breakout star. This time with Michael Rooker as Yondu.

  • bytemonkey

Yay! I may not have won the Power Ball, but winning here is also as sweet.

  • Rogue One. Made me feel like an excited 8 year old watching the original star wars for the 1st time.

  • I feel like WW got good press for being better than Zack Snyder’s Batman but it was maybe an 8 out of 10. My pick is Logan. Good acting and good story line and not as flashy as the other box office blockbusters but I thought as a movie it was the best so far this year… (possibly until SW: LJ comes out)

  • Wonder Woman hands down! This is the first comic base movie in the last few years that has made me want to immediately get back in line and watch it again! Gal Gadot, you are Wonder Woman!

  • KravenHuntsAgain

I seriously think I liked the Lego Batman movie the best. It was great to see all the characters, and I genuinely laughed.
The CGI in other movies just ruins it for me. Does every movie need a huge, incoherent, CGI-fueled, explosion driven, eye straining, not so epic last battle?

  • GOTG2 was a very close second. It has to be Logan. Last time I cried at a movie like that was Optimus Prime died in Transformers: The Movie.

  • hugh jackman’s performance as logan was damn near oscar-worthy. can’t see anybody else playing that character. and we got to see the berserker-rage on screen? a bloody bonus. putting this movie up there with dark knight as best super hero movie of all time

  • BenGrimm

I enjoyed Wonder Woman, but my favorite film this year so far was Logan. I have not read Nyx, so I enjoyed the introduction to Laura. Overall, I think the character was developed well.

  • fourwayflashers

I liked Valerian. Because someone has to.

  • Spider-man Homecoming was phenomenal! Funny and great character development, especially from Michael Keaton’s Vulture. I mean that scene in the car though..

  • Wonder Woman by a hair. I enjoyed Logan quite a bit, but thought it ran out of steam late in the movie. Wonder Woman had a cheesy villain, but wasn’t as bad a clone Logan.

  • Logan and I almost cried at the end. The movie was fearless and didn’t give a lick about rules. Western, drama, thriller, cops and robbers, road trip, slasher, action, superhero. The movie fit so many genres. The actors and directors gave a fully committed performance. I’m a sucker for a display of art. Best film to come from comic books!

  • I was surprised that I liked Wonder Woman! Not just because Gal is hot…. she is… like take my money hot. I was honestly worried about all the recent DC movies.

GOTG 2 was great! But I kind of felt it would have been great. Like you see the rollarcoaster and know you will have fun.

Wonder Woman was like… I have a fast pass, should I use it?

    Verdict: Wonder Woman for me

  • Logan. Was the best comic related. It was so dynamic. It had everything, laughter and humor. Some sadness with watching people Acton of amazing.

  • I enjoyed Logan the most because I am a huge fan of Wolverine.

  • why no one talking about a new character “good punsiher” in peter parker the spectacular Spider-Man #3. ? this might be the biggest sleeper

  • loved justice league dark, never knew constantine, zatanna, deadman and etrigan were so bad ass. Started hunting key books for those characters. Movie made me excited about the upcoming film.

  • Wonder Woman. I finally feel like DC is closing the gap on Marvel with comic based movies!

  • I really enjoyed GotG v2. It got me excited for Stallone’s original line-up possibilities!!!

  • Logan. It was the Wolverine movie we’ve all been waiting to see. Claws out!

  • WW…DuH! Kicks as like my wife…pretty damn hot if you ask me!

  • Khoi Cakes

Congrats to Chris Hellyer and bytemonkey

  • dpiercy

Wonder Woman – Gal Gadot was so excellent.

  • Logan has to be my favorite, although I also have to thank Deadpool for paving the way for the R rate Logan movie. It’s Wolverine as he should be, and seeing him go all berserker in the first few minutes of the movie was fantastic!

  • bytemonkey

Of all the movies that were based on comic books and were released in 2017, I would have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. It was a movie about family, fatherhood, and being true to oneself — basically addressing the same themes as the much acclaimed Logan except in a less serious/depressing and more funny way. The movie’s 80s/90s/(and 2Ks?) pop-culture references also hit the spot for our society’s growing nostalgia for the past.
