1 Seven To Eternity #1

WRITER: Rick Remender
ARTIST: Jerome Opena
Just like ‘Thong Song' was retired on TRL 17 years ago, S2E may have to be retired from the Hot 10 as it continually keeps appearing on the list.  Now selling for $75-100 raw with 9.8's in the mid $200's.  Sorry for those that missed the boat on this juggernaut.  I expect some will cash out soon, so a price dip may occur.

2 Detective Comics #850

WRITER: Paul Dini
ARTIST: Dustin Nguyen
Now selling for $30-40, this one just keeps pushing new heights.  Not much else to say lol.

3 Teen Titans (Vol. 3) #75 Adam Hughes 1:25 Variant

WRITER: Felicia D. Henderson
ARTIST: Joe Bennett
This has been moving up the ranks for a while and it is now a complete ghost.  The last 2 raws have been snatched off of eBay for $325 and $375.

4 GI Joe (Vol. 8) #1 Paul Pope 1:50 Variant

WRITER: Aubrey Sitterson
ARTIST: Giannis Milonogiannis
Only 1 currently on eBay.  The past few have sold in the low $100's.  All this means is that there don't appear to be very many of these out there.  Simple formula again: HTF + nice cover art = winner.

5 God Country #1

WRITER: Donny Cates
ARTIST: Geoff Shaw
People must be saying, ‘No way am I missing this time like I did with S2E'.  Selling for $10-15 just 2 days after release, a telling sign will be when print run numbers are released.  Interesting premise, I would like to hear from readers what they thought of issue #1.

6 Spider-Man (Vol. 2) #12 Richard Isanove 1:25 Variant

WRITER: Brian Michael Bendis
ARTIST: Sara Pichelli
Brand new release that is going to be extremely hard to find in 9.6/9.8 grade due to the all-black cover.  Expect to pay $30-40 at the moment.  I don't buy that Miles/Spider-Gwen kissing is a big moment, but it does at least help feed the beast.

7 Superior Spider-Man #20 J. Scott Campbell 1:50 Variant

WRITER: Dan Slott
ARTIST: Giuseppe Camuncoli
A modern classic cover, this book has been mentioned on this site as a book that was primed for prices in the stratosphere.  Currently zero on eBay, the last raw sold for close to $400 and a 9.8 in the mid $400's.

8 Marry Me #1 Cover C

WRITER: Bobby Crosby
ARTIST: Remy Eisu Mokhtar
Mentioned by Inigo on the Wednesday One and by Mel on the podcast, this web comic, turned print comic, is sold out and this cover is selling between $15-25.  It's a fun, millenial themed, book…so take that for whatever it's worth.

9 Vengeance #1 Mike Deodato 1:15 Variant

WRITER: Joe Casey
ARTIST: Nick Dragotta
This was a $30 book just a few months ago and it is now selling for $75-100.  America Chavez's new series is approaching giving new life to this book.

10 Batman (Vol. 3) #1 Tyler Kirkham Hastings Variant

WRITER: Tom King
ARTIST: David Finch
I assume that this is rolling for $30-40 now because of the awesome cover featuring the Sirens.  Being a Batman #1 doesn't hurt either.

Harley Quinn (Vol. 3) #11 Frank Cho Variant

WRITER: Amanda Conner
ARTIST: Jimmy Palmiotti
While I thought his WW covers were great, I think his HQ covers are even better.  This Victorian looking cover is a hit (not to mention the Joker Loves Harley storyline) with sales topping $10.

Captain Marvel Adventures #18

WRITER: Otto Binder
Mentioned by Jon Z on this weeks podcast, a 4.0 sold for $3315.  To put that in perspective, a 4.0 sold for $800 just 3 years ago and a 9.0 sold for $3400 just 4 years ago.

Didn’t the Batman Hastings variant not officially come out because of the stores closing down? That might be why the prices are higher then the rest of the batman store variants.

IIRC, it came out a week late. Most people were able to get them for less than $2 though because of the liquidation sale-making the current price even more remarkable.

Good list. Every one of these seem to be deserving of their spot.

I haven’t read God Country yet (waiting to get it from DCBS) but Geoff Shaw is a good artist. I enjoyed the work he did on The Paybacks.

    Honorable mention:
Y the Last Man comics have picked up steam again since a script will be produced within a few months.

Great list – if I can add my 2 cents: The Superior Carnage #1 Checchetto variant has shot up from about $25-30 to about $100 on average in the last month. I think this would be a good one for the top 10.

WOW! That is a huge increase on the Capt. Marvel Adventures #18 sale. Now that is one the best issues in the series. BUT DAMN! Somebody wanted that issue really really really bad.

Have you ever done a Hot 10 Hall of Fame list for books that would qualify to be “retired”?

Seven to Eternity is SO HOT it’s even got its own abbreviation! (S2E) lol.

This book is GOLD right now! I am honestly surprised covers B and C aren’t going for a little higher and I am stock piling them. If people remember when it first came out C was HOTTER than A was!

Also God Country seems to be the next big thing too, although I think cover B will be the big winner. Seems to be selling for a bit more too!

Keep up the great work CBSI! LOVE these top 10’s!

I called this on your Wednesday one post for god country. Preordered 5 copies a week ago

God Country was really really good. The art and story were great but I did not figure the topic of Alzheimer’s and the effect it has on a persons family, would hit me so hard, wow. I have no idea where the story is going next. The next issue will tell me if this series will be great or not, but a very nice start.

YOU know what Kissing leads too?……..Yes you do.. Its…going to be….. SPIDER-MILES-GWEN!

The thing Seven to Eternity #1 has going for it is with 3 covers wouldn’t the 32k print run be divided by 3 for each? So just over 10k per issue? Such a great book and if issue 4 had come out in December it would have been my favorite read of 2016. Another one for the list could be Divinity III #1 1:50. Released to $50-75 sales, less than a month later it’s now up to $100+ if you can find them.

Some joker here in UK started an eBay auction yesterday for £1,500!! Not quite that level yet, the auction has now been removed anyway.

There’s an auction of first four issues of S2E (love the abbreviation!) ending tomorrow at 3.00 pm (GMT) that’s at £39, then some BINs at £89.95, £95 and £120, so be interesting to see how the auction goes and if those sell at the high prices subsequently. Though I reckon an undercutter will come in.

Last recorded sale of cover A was just £29.95 on 14th Jan, but the bloke must be an idiot selling that low when the day before one went for £59.99!

I have just one copy of A but going to hold on for longer term.

I didn’t like S2E. I read the first two then sold them. I just couldn’t get into it. Maybe I’ll try again when the trade comes out.

I really liked God Country though. We’all see how the next couple issues turn out before passing final judgement.

The Tyler Kirkham Batman #1 Hastings variant was selling at $30 bucks (or more) the second they started showing up on eBay. Granted this was when it was still unclear what was going on with Hastings bankruptcy at that time.

    Great list as always!
