The Christmas One

wednesday

A bit of a quick one this week, but, honestly, unless you're a fan of store exclusives, there's nothing to send you running to the shop. Some good reads, though, and loads of Christmas covers …

New Series

Star-Lord #1 Chip Zdarsky 1:25 Variant

I am featuring the Zdarsky variant but this is one of those books that I don't think it's going to do much market-wise. The main reason to put it in here is that I genuinely believe this is going to be a great read. And I am the first person who's surprised, but it's Zdarsky and Anka and hopefully they will get Chris Pratt's voice just right.

Dead Inside #1

Arcudi is one of those writers who doesn't get the appreciation he deserves. His Rumble is a lot of fun and this series about a jail crimes division cop might get him some more attention.

Gamora #1 Marco Checchetto 1:25 Variant

Checchetto has been getting a lot of love lately with his Thunderbolts cover. This week he gets a couple of covers (Punisher has a variant by him too) and interior art in Gamora. Does this character have enough personality to maintain a series?

Justice League vs Suicide Squad #1

The jury's still out with the Suicide Squad series, it's an OK read but has the potential to be better. Will crossing over with the Justice League fix that? I don't think so. Will it bring true Lobo back? Yes, so who cares about the rest. Remember that this book comes out with 3 DC variants and then an unlimited number of store exclusives!!!

Other Stuff of Interest

Locke & Key: Small World

Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez back on Locke & Key is good news to me. If they never come back to it full time an annual one-shot would be a nice way to celebrate one of the best series in recent years.

Harley Quinn #10

So the Cho cover is not the greatest, but I will take bad Cho over any Conner, and that's just my tastes speaking, no disrespect meant. Anyway, I try to keep way from HQ as much as possible, but the promise of some art by Blevins and Linsner might make me get this.

Trinity #4

So there's that cover that was originally scheduled for #3. To keep things confusing, it seems that the interior art has changed from Clay Mann to Lupacchino, which I am kinda OK with.

Mighty Captain Marvel #0

Carol Danvers gets her own series (again), rising from the ashes of whatever it is that happened on Civil War II #8 … Really, stop scheduling relaunches around event series, Marvel, it rarely works. In any case, hot character and best-selling book writer, will it work this time?

Thanos #2

#1 was interesting enough for this series to get another chance. Deodato's digital art was sweet too. Intrigued with this title, and I am a Starlin purist!

Batman #13

Tom King has been taking some risks with this series so far and I think it's only going to start paying off in the next few issues. This one might be the one that breaks or makes the series for a lot of people, but I think it will deliver!!!

Greatest Christmas Cover Ever?

That's it for this week. What would you buy? There can be only one!
