It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

wednesday

My first thought when looking at the comics coming out today was: I like swipes, but do we really need two Uncanny X-Men homages in the same week? We probably don't but there are some good comics coming out today and not a lot of time!!!

Playing Hard to Get

Nothing terribly exciting in the world of covers with a high-ratio, but it's a Christmas miracle that two of them are drawn by ex-Harlem Globe Trotter and Michael Dudikoff's official stuntman, Chip Zdarsky. The Punisher's face on that Gwenpool cover is amazing.

Inhumans vs X-Men #1 B&W 1:store variant Guardians of the Galaxy #15 B&W 1:store variant
Red Sonja #0 J. Scott Campbel 1:100 Variant Gwenpool Holiday Special Merry Mix Up Chip Zdarsky 1:100 Variant

Meanwhile, back in the real world …

Shadows on the Grave #1

Corben is an acquired taste, so if you love him you will get this, and if you don't you will at least take a look at it. The solicitation mentions a Den-like character, so that might bring some heat to the title (Den being arguably Corben's biggest success).

Suicide Squad #8

This comic has quite a few things going for it: JL/SS prelude, supposedly Mattina interior art in the backup and a nice Bermejo cover. With all the talk lately about DC 1:1 variants not being ordered as much as the regulars, this might be a good buy.

Batman / TMNT Adventures #2

Frankly, there's nothing much else to say here: Harley Quinn, Batman, turtles, Harley Quinn, awesome cover, Harley Quinn and the Joker too. If this has been ignored for having the Adventures brand, those who did it will regret it.

Renew your Vows #2 JSC 1:25 Variant

Not the best of JSC covers, but a fun cover and if I know my cosplayers (and I don't), you might start seeing trios like this at conventions. Not saying it will be because of this particular cover, but it is JSC doing the perfect family photo and a ratio cover.

Hawkeye #1 David Aja 1:25 Variant

David Aja's variant cover is a beautiful bridge from the previous series to the new one. I would expect fans of the old series to want this one. There's another 1:25 by Marguerite Sauvage, but it looks a bit weird to me.

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #5

Another B&BoP, another beautiful Shirahama cover. In this issue, the mystery of who's the new Oracle gets solved … That's what the regular cover says, at least, I have to admit I haven't been reading this, but Oracle is a great character concept, very film-friendly (for exposition, I mean look at the Flash or Green Arrow series, they each have their own Oracle), so it will not hurt to have her first app.

Paul Pope does Transformers

After doing that Power Rangers variant, Paul Pope is back with not one but two Transformers covers. They are amazing and 1:50 so keep an eye out for them!

Holiday Specials

Holiday specials from Marvel and DC going head to head, and while Marvel's has an intriguing cast, I think DC's looks a bit better but, if you knew that it features a Batman / Detective Chimp team-up, you already knew it looks a bit better. Anyway, here's a page from each of them because I just needed an excuse to put them up here:

That's it for this week. What would you buy? There can be only one!
