HOT 10 COMICS

1 Seven To Eternity #1

1 WRITER: Rick Remender
ARTIST: Jerome Opena
Another #1 that isn't a variant?  I absolutely loved the first 2 issues.  Consider this, 32k print run vs. Saga #1 37k print run.  It's easy to see why this book is now selling $25-30+ at the moment.  If the story stays strong, this one will continue to be a great book to own.

2 X-23 (Vol. 2) #1 2nd Print

7 WRITER: Marjorie Liu
ARTIST: Will Conrad
Mentioned by Jimmie on the podcast months ago, this one has finally started picking up steam and sales are now in the $50-60 range.  Very difficult to find, especially in high grade.  There will be 2nd Print haters, but this one is probably close to the same print run as the Dell'Otto.
2

3 Carnage (Vol. 2) #3 Yasmine Putri 1:25 Variant

WRITER: Gerry Conway
ARTIST: Mike Perkins
Totally sick cover and not easy to find, this book has been moving in the $45-50 range recently.

5

4 Detective Comics (Vol. 1) #880

WRITER: Scott Snyder
ARTIST: Jock
NM raw copies are over $100 and if you haven't noticed, 9.8 copies are over $350.  I love this book as a long term winner as it has a low print run, awesome cover and amazing story.  Don't forget to get #871 while it's cheap and the cover is just as awesome and actually has a smaller print run.

3

5 Saga #1

WRITER: Brian K. Vaughan
ARTIST: Fiona Staples
Raws are selling for $150-175 and 9.8's are moving for $450-500.  Just continues to be a modern blue-chip book.  Yes, there are a lot of 9.8's out there, but that is likely not going to increase much more at this point as all the high grades have already been slabbed.

8

6 Wonder Woman (Vol. 4) #28 J.G. Jones 1:25 Variant

WRITER: Brian Azzarello
ARTIST: Cliff Chiang
Very unique steampunk art on a hot character.  This book has been a winner for a while but is selling $200+ raw at the moment.

4

7 All-New Wolverine #14 Leinil Francis Yu 1:25 Variant

WRITER: Tom Taylor
ARTIST: Nicole Virella
This has been a slow week for comics which has contributed to this book selling for $25-50.  I like Yu a lot, but this doesn't seem to be a long term hold–but I have been wrong before.

6

8 Teen Titans (Vol. 3) #88 Adam Hughes 1:10 Variant

WRITER: J.T. Krul
ARTIST: Nicola Scott
Hard to find variant that has been mentioned before in our articles, the podcast, etc.  This is now selling for $75+ with only a couple of listings on eBay currently.

9

9 Venom (Vol. 3) #1 Gabriele Dell'Otto Virgin Variant /500

WRITER: Mike Costa
ARTIST: Gerardo Sandoval
So, not technically out yet (releases this Wednesday), this is still selling $160-200 which is more than triple the initial price.  The best depictions of Venom hold value and this is definitely one of the best.  Once the initial sales cease, this book may be impossible to find.

11

10 Detective Comics #359

WRITER: Gardner Fox
ARTIST: Camine Infantino
This book has been trending up in all grades again.  7.0's have been moving in the $800-900 range.  Just a classic.

10

Kong of Skull Island #1 NYCC Adam Hughes Variant

WRITER: James Asmus
ARTIST: Carlos Magno
Very limited info on this book, but how awesome is this cover? $60 sales and only 1 listed on eBay at the moment.

12

Black Cat Mystery Comics #50

WRITER: Various
ARTIST: Lee Elias Cover
This had to get a mention.  A 9.0 sold at auction this week for $7000.  PCH is on fire and this is just an example.

This is perfect. You killed it buddy

Nice list. Even hitting PCH. Sad I couldn’t bid on that Black Cat.

Another awesome and diverse list, well done! The top book since the last list though was easily the Batman 608RRP. I have commented on this book numerous times, and no matter how many records it sets, you always overlook it here. A raw copy sold for over $2100 this past week, and a 9.8 broke $4k the week before. The only other modern to see numbers approaching this is the ASM 667 Dell’otto, which, speaking of, had a 9.8 copy sell for $7300 this past week. That is definitely worth at least a mention as well.

I think the reason why its left out is everyone already knows these books you metioned. Having a list like the one posted allows people to get in on the cheap for books that are hot and may have some legs… Just my 2 pesos

I agree with you for the most part. However this list, on many occasions, has included other “obvious” and already relatively expensive books like BA 12, Saga 1 RRP, ASM 678 (VemoMJ), etc. Not only that , I pointed out the original stirrings of the Bats 608RRP months before this latest price spike in it, and the writers of this particular (and the “hot variant “) feature seem to willfully ignore it. Now raw copies are going for over $2000.

I was under the impression that this list reflected hot selling books, not just cheap dollar bin bait that will have already flamed out by the time the next Top 10 list is posted.

Sure this is their list and they can ignore the books that really were “hot” for stuff that’s more easily attainable.

But then that would be a different kind of list.

Great list. Surprised that Seven to Eternity is selling that well honestly.
Kong can be pre-ordered from one of the big online stores. I bet once more copies hit the market it dies down.

Is Jerome Opena another up and comer to watch ? That Seven to Eternity and the Punisher #2 (2014) have really heated up. The Punisher 2 especially.

I would also point out Superior Carnage #1 Chechetto for another sick Carnage cover. Also has been showing movement and seems nearly impossible to find anywhere.

Yes! PCH gets a mention. Good to see Saga on here too. This list is perfection bro. Well done!

Awesome list! It’s always nice to already own 7 of the Top 10. And the only copy of a book on eBay in the honorable mentions 😉

I absolutely LOVE Seven to Eternity and really think it will be a HUGE long term spec. Anyone know why Cover A (Opena) and the blank are the hot ones on the market? I mean if they were all printed in the same numbers and those are selling for 30-50 bucks each and you can get cover B and C for 10-15 why wouldn’t those go up too?!

    • Avatar

Pretty easy… The cover that is the winner is A, the one people like more than the other 2 (Blank does not count for me) will always sell more… I have all 4 covers and A just stands out more…
