The Zebra Batman vs Chainsaw Batman One

wednesday

Before we get into it remember that the Art Challenge auctions finish tonight (so bid bid bid) and that we have a great contest going on that also ends tonight. I won’t be talking about the wrestling books because I don’t have a lot of faith in them, so sorry about that! Kinda nice week, but I am so excited about one book in particular that it might be clouding my judgment …

All-Star Batman #4 Jock VariantAll-Star Batman #4 Jock Variant

Voted the most awesome Batman with a chainsaw cover ever by myself, this title delivers an ass-kicking Batman every month.

Mother Panic #1Mother Panic #1

Introducing a new millionaire vigilante in Gotham, we never really know if this character will ever amount to anything, but as part of the Young Animal imprint, it might be better received than it would in a Bat-Title. This comes with 4 really nice covers, too.

Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures #1 Ty Templeton 1:25 VariantBatman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures #1 Ty Templeton 1:25 Variant

The DC Batman / TMNT crossover sold out and had multiple printings. IDW’s (even if based on the animated universes) should follow the same path. It might do even better, because (a) it will probably have a lower print run and (b) it looks like it might feature Harley Quinn extensively (at least she’s on the main cover for #2).

Ri Ri’s here! Will this book reach its intended audience? Will they like it? Can Brian Michael Bendis find within him the voice of a teenage girl genius? We’ll see, but Caselli’s art will look awesome and this cover will be the most wanted.

Namesake #1Namesake #1

White-hot writer Steve Orlando’s “only original title of 2016” (and that’s one strange way to put it) is just another reminder that BOOM! are doing great work and putting out a lot of books that might not be getting noticed but are quality.

The Mummy #1The Mummy #1

Peter Milligan doing Hammer’s The Mummy? Yes, please!!! Titan have a crazy line-up of books, don’t they? Really curious about what this Hammer Comics line will offer in the future.

Betty & Veronica #2Betty & Veronica #2

It feels like the first issue came out a while ago, so I am including this here because the first issue was fun and the art is going to be great. It’s always a delight to see Hughes interiors.

Who Killed Kurt Cobain? HCWho Killed Kurt Cobain? HC

If this gets enough publicity, it should be interesting for the millions of Cobain fans that are out there. Sometimes music books do well, and this looks like a great book in any case.

Some awesome covers

Blink and you’ll miss them

It seems Marvel got permission to reprint the Shang Chi stories featuring Fu Manchu, but they are going to publish all the Shang-Chi omnibii in a few months and then they’re gone forever (unless they arrange another print with the owners of Fu Manchu, which they probably will … I mean you don’t see kids wearing Fu Manchu t-shirts lately, do you?). These will probably heat up for a while. And the Deadly Hands book has a Dell’Otto cover!

Book I’m looking forward to the most

There’s no other way to put it … I’m a Giffen fanboy! Even though some of his latest work leaves me a bit cold, when he’s on anything he does is a guaranteed good read. He’s responsible for some of my favorite runs ever (Justice League or the “5 years later” Legion of Super-Heroes to name a couple), so I will always check anything with his name on it.

This TPB collects the Sugar & Spike stories from the Legends of Tomorrow anthology. I never touched that book and hoped it would get collected and fortunately that’s finally coming out today. What it’s about? Sugar and Spike reinvented as “private investigators who specialize in cleaning up embarrassing problems for the DCU’s greatest heroes” and that sounds like classic Giffen to me. Just a look at the cover should tell you if this is up your alley. They had me with Zebra Batman!

Sugar & Spike: Metahuman Investigations

That’s it for this week. What would you buy? There can be only one!

  • I’m loving that New Superman cover!! Haha

  • New Superman cover is fun. For those who don’t know – check out Action Comics 454 for the swipe.

  • The Legends of Tomorrow series was a lot of fun, updating Firestorm, Metamorpho, & Metal Men – while still retaining a lot of the flavor & fun of the original versions. But for me, the highlight of the book was Sugar & Spike. As a fan of the classic comics I was all set to hate this revamp. But it was great! A fun, refreshing take on Silver Age comics. If you are a fan of the SA, give it a try, you won’t be sorry!
