  • A lot of viewers his week. Seems like the word is spreading how good this podcast is.

  • Jason S

This is one of my favorite times if the week. Getting ready to listen to it at work….of course in my office with the door closed!

  • dpiercy

I listened live last night for the 1st time! Yaaay, me! I love the free!

    • Fun episode! I like that we did a deep dive on some 90’s stuff in the middle. I got a shoutout, even though I didn’t have ANY Doritos or weed sticks!!!

  • Another great show between Jimmy’s variant news, Khoi’s agenda and Mel’s NYCC recap. Thanks for the shoutout Mel!

  • Got to attend live this time, the show was great although I wasn’t on for the whole thing. Listening to everything I missed now!

  • Was all happy with the intro music only to find out it’s a sample… Stop your messing around

  • Always enjoy this podcast. I look forward to sitting in traffic now so I can listen on my way to work ?

  • Only problem with listenin

    • Lol idk why it only posted half my comment and i dont know how to delete it but,

The only problem with listening live is i wont be surprised when i hear it Thursday morning.

  • Love the podcast keep it up guys.

  • Thanks for the shout out, Khoi! Pay attention when Part 2 gets posted for the December Previews. I’ve broken down so many variants, it’ll keep you busy for a long time!

  • Louis-Philippe

I really enjoy the podcast but I have to say that listening to it live is what really makes it awesome! Keep up the good work you guys are amazing !

  • HAHAHA. Great job guys! Some really good info wedged in between some funny bs. I was a little torn on which 3 books I grab in case of natural disaster.
    I would grab
    1 for the money: NM98
2 for the show: NTT 2 slabbed
3 to get ready (I could grab it quick): Ultimate Fallout 4
    4 I would go.

I envy folks with schedules conducive to listening to these at the times they are recorded live, as all these are terrific. Even the ones that slide down the conversational hillside from the road of comic subjects and down through the rocks and brambles of reality chatter…and we all get enough of that normally…….except me, as I work in ‘virtual reality’, so I suppose I don’t even get REALreality in realityreality. hmmm….good point ‘me’…ok, never mind.
Aaaaaaanyway, It comes down to good clean entertainment. …. wait, did I say “clean”? Well….it is most of the time. hehe The length I feel could be trimmed a bit though, or quickly edited to have more lean casts, but while I’m used to doing that, I understand that many folks lack the time and/or software to noodle away on podcasts that are being done so frequently. Still, a lil fat trimming never hurts…..unless that’s taken literally….which I would avoid doing…..’ouch’. “HEY! PUT DOWN THAT HAWKMAN-THEMED TURKEY CARVING KNIFE”!

  • All of my sketch covers from now on will have something to do with Damien getting the short end of the stick. It will be like Frank Cho’s Outrage covers.

  • userX745

The amount of listener last night was amazing but I think it’s because it was mentioned that there was going be two contest, one for the live listeners and the other is for the website post.

I do enjoy listening live and reading / commenting in the chat room. Makes it more interactive. I do see this growing much more as the weeks goes by. Still amazed on the information you guys have and pulling issues numbers and books off the top of your heads so quickly.

The chat was nuts; I feel like I need to listen again as I was posting so much inane drivel.

  • I agree with +Trey K about his comments regarding Kingpin and who is buying those books and why are they doing them. There are way too many crappy books on the shelf’s know for readers which I think hurts the hobby. The new Iron fist, Kingpin, han Solo, Poe Demerion The new Chinese Superman are prime examples of the cash grabs and crappy books being put out by companies now a days. I really feel like this hurts the industry and acts as a barrier to new readers.

I really like what DC is doing giving me two issues of some of their best titles every month. I hope they keep it up and stay around from giving everyone their own series.

I also liked the question about your top three collectibles and what you would grab. This made me think about mine

    1) Giant Size X-men 1
    2) Amazing Spiderman 42
    3) Uncanny X-men 251 signed by Clairmont and Silvestri. I actually had them sign the first comic I every read which is still in pretty good shape for a book I read a few dozen times.

  • Dirty-Dalek

My employees were talking to me all night at work thinking my earpiece was plugged into my walkie talkie and I did a damn good job hiding the fact that I was listening to you knuckleheads.

  • Topher

So would you consider Dime Press 4 a prototype like Best Cellars is with Mog/Goon or Wolverine from Foom?

  • Even being on the Westcoast you guys run a little late to listen live for me but I usually download and listen on Thursday while at work .Keep em coming and ignore all the BS haters and copycat pages they cant do what you guys do just being yourselves .

  • I didn’t have to be in the office until noon today, so I listened to the whole thing straight through this morning (including the bonus time at the end!). Good stuff, as always, guys.

  • Great podcast as always. Gonna have to try some of the search tricks you guys talked about. If it wasn’t for spell check I definitely would still be spelling variant as varient.

  • JMasters12

Wow! Damien Wayne raped by Bane? Soooo many levels of wrong with that.

You guys never fail to entertain and inform.

  • Does anyone else think Trey is a really interesting character? The man is irreverence itself half the time, and then he drops truly admirable perspectives about what Wonder Woman did for women’s rights. I also really enjoyed the Miss M/Jimmy interaction in chat last night.

  • Awesome podcast! Hilarious after hours podcast too!

  • Great podcast up until the 2hr mark then a little off the tracks! This is why I love the podcast!

  • I’m not extremely fluent in american language so the podcast is sometimes difficult to understand but it improves my skills. :o)

  • Great show as usual. In the spirit of this election season, I think something that could spice things up is having two people with different opinions on a comic book spec or topic square off and argue their positions. The community could then vote on which point of view they support the most. I think a civil debate would really provide awesome insight and really thresh out the pros and cons of some specs. It would also provide some more structure to at least one segment of the show (I do think the rest of the show should remain random bat shit insanity banter)

  • I must always listen live now. Great show

  • andmethis

This was my first time listening live, and it was a lot of fun to participate in the chat. Thank you for answering my question on Reborn. As always, live long and CBSI.

  • thegratefuldeadpool

Thanks for discussing Reborn. Personally, I thought it was a great read and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here. Special thanks to Mel V. for turning me on to the NYCC sketch variant.

  • Another great episode in the can guys. I do want to point out an error that Drew’s One Year Later article in May on Darth Vader #3 listed it as a “Hit” and “A total buy when you see cheap…”

  • What? Frank Miller’s first work was Twilight Zone #84 for Gold Key and his first work for DC Comics was Weird War Tales #64. Both issues have the same publication date of June 1978. (Guess twilight Zone hit the shelves first.) Not some DC Xmas thing, Jimmy.

  • First thanks for the compliment on my art. That’s always cool to hear and really appreciated. I also noticed y’all are working hard on staying on a comic topic more than going down the rabbit hole. That tells me Khoi must have kidnapped some of you comics and is holding them hostage. Your what three comics would you save was a secret plea for help. I know of a group, if you can find them that may be able to help.

  • Pretty awesome podcast. I love the amount of interaction the guys gives the viewers. For example, I got a good 4 or 5 questions in through the YouTube live chat that the guys either acknowledged and/or answered. You never see that. Not to mention, I don’t know many people into this hobby so it’s nice to be in a group that all share a collective interest. In short, I freaking love everything you guys are doing. Keep it up.

  • Is this podcast available on iTunes?

  • Another great podcast guys … it’s great to see the progress y’all made since week one keep it going. One day I’ll be the 6th defect lol

  • merlin

I missed the last couple but this was a stellar podcast. I want to reflect a sentiment above and say thanks, Trey, for the thoughtful response regarding Wonder Woman’s profound influence on the empowerment of women. Even if in mythology there have been similarly inspiring powerful women it was largely lacking in the past few millennia. Also, thanks for holding cbsi to high enough standards to keep violent images of statutory rape off of books on the front page/charity drives. Good suggestions on eBay search tactics, one I often use is “wierd comics” as it usually lands a lot of GA stuff I’m interested but it also seems to be commonly searched (whether because others are trying or bad at spelling I do not know). “Suspence” has done well for me also. Good catch on the Marston mis-info Jimmy. He was a visionary artist regardless of how many boy/girlfriends he had. Khoi the first Paste Pot Pete is ST 104, it’s the second to last Kirby Torch story and a great book to have for much less than 110. Of note regarding ST 110 and Marvel chipping… It may or may not be common knowledge that Marvel books with chipping aren’t graded as hard by cgc due to it being considered a factory defect. It is certainly widely known that the poor quality of the cutting blades used by Marvel caused a lot of damage. I never have found a comprehensive list of months where it’s at it worst but the problem was largely due to them not being changed or sharpened on a regular schedule. As a result, all of the books produced by Marvel on certain months (particularly pre-1964) are much much harder to find with sharp edges and I think ST 110 is one such case. Sorry for the lengthy reply, hope you got anything out of it ?

I believe the first appearance of the camera man for Legends of Tomorrow was in a season 3 episode of Quantum leap. Also Officer Downe is undervalued.

  • jason jones

I tired to listen live, and even commented a few times, but kept falling asleep so had to download and listen today.

The fact that Mel isn’t even trying to hide the pump and dump now is hilarious.

I also can’t believe Huck wasn’t getting more love. That was one of my favorite reads in recent times.

    • LOL I dont Pump and Dump..I really do like the Venom cover by Sam Keith ..and I would save the Zombie Tramps after a fire so i can sell it and get some shelter for my family ..and I dont have that many great books in the PC but im working on that lol

  • ECooper

My mix tape will drop soon – “CBSI Cowboys.” It’s a fusion of hip hop and hillbilly country laid down over a cool techno beat. Should be EPIC! 🙂

The variant craze is going to continue in full force until the consumers (us) stop buying them. If you’re sick of seeing 25 variants for an issue, don’t buy them. Send a message to the companies pumping these out and maybe we can make it stop. The insides of most books are garbage because the big name artists are making bank on doing these variant covers! Why schlep through 22 pages of art a month when you can bang out a cover and collect $$$?

  • Matt D.

Here’s an unknown fact. All participants of the podcast are actually just Trey doing different voices from different microphones. He’s quite talented and really nails a Canadian accent.

  • Great podcast. Chock full of comic talk and peppered with witty banter. I like shipwreck from aftershock, did not know about the scarce variant. Thanks guys

  • samuel.farrauto

I love the eBay search tips part that you guys went over. Great info.

It’s funny because I went through a scenario where there was a crazy industrial fire going on about a block away from my house and we were evacuated. I brought three short boxes that I have packed in case we ever needed to quickly get out. It’s a scary thing to think about.
My top three books though would have to be:
    Detective 359
    ASM 121 CGC 7.5
New Mutants Annual 2 CGC 9.8

A little hard to follow the inside jokes or the live chat jokes but I love the funny tangents that happen while Khoi tries to wrangle everyone back together.

Also great rundown on all of the current things going on in the industry.
I think you guys hit everything:
    NYCC
    Indies & Big Two
    Articles from the site
    Movie and TV spec
    Exclusive variants
    Etc.

    Keep up the great work.

  • I knew this was gonna be good kicking it off with some Specials remixed. always enjoy the oddness that Mel brings to the table, (zombie tramp 1 and 2 as the top books to grab in a fire… : ) , but Jimmy’s point of view and biting sarcasm and outrage genuinely make me laugh, pair that with the doing things like the harambe variant and the money that goes to charity. great work guys, while I can’t generally listen live you got me downloading as soon as it pops up on Thursday morning.

  • 24DeadPun

This week’s was my 2nd time listening live. And I love it. My gf and I both listened live and the interaction on the chat is awesome. If I had to choose one word to describe Unreadable defects? Phenomenal..
They cover all the hot topics in the week or to come, touch on hilarious subjects, find time to insert questions from the chat section during live shows. Also, the rare spotting of a ring tailed tape worm R**n Lever junkamonkey occasionally pops up also.. This group meshes well together as they discuss each topic with different opinions and intellect that offers us listeners and friends a one of a kind podcast. //my little CBSI jingle//

Often imitated never duplicated, few truly hate it //
when they get humiliated through the views and ratings and go from dudes to ladies and a eat a tube-steak til they’re recuperated then hop on Google exuberated with an honest look of detest/ so the trolling obviously could suggest. If they want it? They gotta look up the best @ Comic Book Invest //
    Matt “MC” Campbell

  • Wonder Woman’s creator was a professor, and he modeled Wonder Woman on the student he and his wife were schtupping together (and, let’s face it, probably separately as well — there was a lot of schtupping).

I upvoted the podcast on Stitcher, hopefully others do the same and drive some traffic to your respective sites.

Lastly, the charity aspect of the Harambe variant is a great idea — a gorilla sanctuary is something both Republicans and Democrats can get behind! Good work.

  • I don’t know if the live feed is a very good idea. You guys seem to have a hard time staying on topic without it.

  • Just listened for the 2nd time around.

    1) I agree that Marvels art is really disappointing. I mean All New Wolverine the last two issues were disappointing. I dropped Silk because the art was garbage. I am really only enjoying the art on Uncanny X-men which constant with Lashley and Land.

    2) The art on the majoiruty of the DC books is great. Action Comics, Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, Trinity, Batman Beyond, Detective Comics, Flash, Aquaman (YES Mel Aquaman) and Red Hood and the Outlaws, Supergirl, Superwoman all had good art
Batgirl Birds of Prey (yuck) Wonder Woman (disappointing) Batgirl (not great) Superman (up and down)
I am much happier with DC’s art than Marvel’s right now.

    3) Most of you guys seem to be hip hop fans. I am an old school hip hop fan as well and I am white. I have many stories like Trey’s Wutang story. I went to a few Black Moon, smiff n wesson concerts and was one of a hand ful of white guys in basement clubs that were pretty shady. One of my favourite stories is when I went to see Gangstar years ago in this club in Toronto. Some old white guy was setting up some turntable’s and getting records out after the local acts set. The old white guy gets everything setup and starts testing the equipment. Next thing you know he drops a beat and lets it run. About 60 seconds in he pulls off the white face mask and its DJ Premier who is promptly joined on stage by Guru and Freddie Foxx. It was awesome one of the best shows I every saw live.

    • Trey

I was a huge O.G.C, Magnum Force, Heltah Skeltah fan back in the day. That Premier story is unreal. Good stuff SS!!

      • I love OGC and still listen to their first album everyone in awhile. Recently took it with me on a work trip to Cleveland.

Heltah Skeltah – Leflaur Leflah Eshkoshka was awesome and Smiff in Wessons – Lets get it on was a track a played all day everyday. Blackmoons how many MC’s with DRU HA and Havoc from Mobb Deep is also a classic in my mind.

    • BYo

Been one of the few white guys at hip hop shows long ago as well… Wu, Method Man/Redman, Goodie Mob, A Tribe Called Quest, and many others… I agree, killer story about Gangstar!

  • wondermarq

Another great podcast guys! The intro songs always put me in a good mood. You guys should keep an updated playlist on Spotify, Youtube or something (Yay! More work for Iñigo!). I could listen to those songs all day at work. I was at NYCC and got a photo-op with Stan Lee. A friend of mine who was working at the con said he has a couch behind the photo booth where he naps every hour or when he’s not being pulled in every direction. I feel bad for the guy. Oh and here’s a new drinking game for the show: Everytime you guys go off topic, you gotta take a shot! Tried to stop by Stranger Comics booth at NYCC to meet Mel but he wasn’t there, unless he was the black guy at the booth cosplaying as Dusu. lol

  • zraximus rouge

Great one again! Loved the eBay tips the last few minutes. Another eBay tip is once you make a purchase look at the other for sale items , save in shipping!

  • Great cast, like getting a few new tips each week. Keep it up, surprised you guys don’t have any sponsors yet.

  • By the way, the Venom mini Mel was talking about with the super dope Sam Keith covers is called “Shiver.”

Sam Keith also drew Venom in six issues of Marvel Comics Presents (117-122) — interior art with a Wolvie fight! He drew a lot more MCP covers, but these are the ones you want if you’re into Venom.

  • mrnivek

William Marston the creator of Wonder Woman was a pretty interesting guy. At a convention I went to that had a History of comics panel I was very surprised at how interesting the Wonder Woman part was, Marston was a psychologist and inventor of a portion of the polygraph used today as well as a comic writer. They say that his work on the polygraph did not influence the idea of the lasso of truth for WW but come on? Also this guy must have been a savage in his real life keeping up with two women…

  • Just to clarify, eBay does assume responsibility for damages once they receive it at their shipping center. Had it happen to me once.

“You aren’t responsible for item loss or damage that occurs after the item is forwarded by the US shipping center. ”

    http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/shipping-globally.html#protected

It’s a horrible program for the buyer, but once I stopped offering it my international sales dried up.

  • BYo

Great job guys, I never get to listen… but made time this week. The discussion on why certain books are bought at crazy prices, sometimes it never makes sense… but I tend to agree it is typically for PC length/girth 😉
