NYCC 16: CBSInvasion Day 1!
This year Adam Cormack offered to give us daily updates from NYCC and he's hit the ground running from day one …
New York Comic Con is America's biggest Comic Convention, boasting an attendance of over 151,000 visitors that overwhelm the massive Javits Center located in western Manhattan. While not the movie Mecca that San Diego has become, the sheer scope of entertainment from Hollywood, TV, video games and everything else in-between may scare off traditionalists looking to sift thru long boxes and haggle with Larry from Lowell, but CBSI-ers like your old pal Uncle Buck here, it's Christmas in New York!
I started off on mid-day Wednesday helping the set up for California publishers Bliss on Tap (my brother Alex Cormack being their star artist), after meeting up with Mel and the crew over at Creature Entertainment. As Mel mentioned on the podcast, Creature was taking preorders via badge scan for the My Little Pony-esque variant for Vampire Hunter D. They are giving out preview editions at no charge featuring the Jae Lee cover.
When Thursday began I was in early, hunting for the surviving Bulletproof Pink Harley sets going for $200, the Spawn 265 first-for-the-title blank variants (1/1500 $35 and 1/666 $50) from NYComics, the foil variants from DC and the Betty and Veronica 1 variants being signed by Adam Hughes (every morning at 10am thru Sunday). The steal of the day may prove to be the Justin Jordan (Spread, Luther Strode) ashcan for The Family Tree. Word is that title just got picked up by Image. Henchgirl 11 Goodbye variant, Shipwreck 1 Comic Mint variant and the JSC Champions “Club” variants were also good pick ups.
Move of the Day: Getting Adam Hughes to not only sign my Classic Star Wars ROTJ cover but add cleavage which was noted by CGC “Cleavage line added by Adam Hughes.”
Fail of the Day: Crashing the G+ page.
Line of the Day: Stan Lee. Not surprising he was 2 hours plus for some.
No Line of the Day: Neal Adams.
CosPlay of the Day: Lots of Enchantress and Eleven sightings. RiRi Williams as well.
Next Issue: Enter Friday!
