The Fair and Balanced One

Nice balanced little week, with some new promising series, good covers and hopefully good stories. Some weeks it's kind of easy to think the world of comics is going down the drain because we're always looking for the next big thing, but if you stop for a minute you will see that there are some truly great comics coming out every single week … I have been tempted to take a break for a while, but every Rebirth or Marvel Divided comes with a few new good books, and don't get me started with the indies … Summer and comics were made for each other!!! There's enough people out there trying to make you feel angry, scared or anxious, let's enjoy comics!

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey: RebirthRebirth One-Shots

Batgirl And The Birds Of Prey and Hellblazer coming out this week. The Birds of Prey establishes a new threat in evil Oracle (wasn't that the Calculator?). Hellblazer promises a return to the roots for John Constantine. By now retailers seem to have put their trust back on DC, so these will probably be everywhere. That BoP variant is cool, though.

Superman #3 Kenneth Rocafort VariantSuperman #3 Kenneth Rocafort Variant

It feels like Superboy was announced a long time ago, but here is his first cover appearance, in the Superman #3 variant, so you might want to check that out.

Other Rebirthed DC titles coming out today: Aquaman #3, Batman #3, Green Arrow #3 (no Otto Schmidt art and the story hasn't grabbed me, so I am probably giving this a miss), Green Lanterns #3 (as always, keep an eye out for the Lupacchino variant) and Justice League #1 (and all its variants).

Astonishing Ant-Man #10 Jenny Frison VariantAstonishing Ant-Man #10 Jenny Frison Variant

Jenny Frison on Psylocke sounds like a recipe for success. Even though the X-Men movie wasn't crowned as the best comic movie ever, people still maintain their faith on Psylocke as a character, so don't blink or you might miss this.

Deadpool and the Mercs For Money #1Deadpool and the Mercs For Money #1

Marvel keeps doing what they do best, build up IP … With some of these characters getting their own title in the next few months (something related to trademarks I'd assume), this might be a good issue to get in order to figure out why these characters deserve solo titles.

Black Panther #1 3rd PrintingMarvel Nth Printings

OK, so everybody seems to be looking at DC's relaunches, but Marvel keeps putting out 2nd and 3rd printings of a lot of their titles. This week: Black Widow #1 gets a 3rd, #2 and #3 get a 2nd, Moon Knight #1 and #2 get a 3rd and #3 gets a 2nd, Civil War II #2 gets a 2nd! Even Black Panther #1, which sold a bunch of copies, is getting a 3rd printing … They must be doing something right!

Betty & Veronica #1Betty & Veronica #1

Adam Hughes is back on interiors, so people are excited. The preview looks fun enough and hopefully the cheesecake level will be kept to a minimum. Launches with 25 official variants and a few more store variants … Nothing compared to Harley Quinn, though.

Snotgirl #1Snotgirl #1

New series by Bryan Lee O'Malley, so always worth a look and if the interiors matches the cover, we might be looking at a breakout talent in Leslie Hung. There's also an O'Malley variant.

Black Hammer #1Black Hammer #1

Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston (another underrated genius) team up to tell us a story about super-heroes. These two working on super-heroes outside of the big two? Potential for greatness alert!!!

Once Our Land #1Once Our Land #1

Mark Cook gave this the golden touch and it's already selling for multiple times cover price. I really can't add a thing to what Mark said on Monday, so do yourself a favor and read it.

Sombra #1Sombra #1

Justin Jordan and Mexican artist Raúl Treviño tackle drug cartels in Mexico in a comic that's going to be published in both an English and a Spanish edition. It would be really interesting to see the numbers for each one of those editions.

Street Fighter Legends: Cammy #1 Frank Cho 1:10 VariantStreet Fighter Legends: Cammy #1 Frank Cho Variants

If you have noticed that banner on the homepage, you already know we will have more news about this later today. Outrage or not, will this start a trend?

Faith #1Faith #1

Meanwhile in the non-outrage side of things, Faith graduates to an ongoing series and I genuinely hope it's a smashing success. The mini was well received and people clearly want more of this.

That's it for this week. What would you buy? There can be only one!
