The 5th week One
You've heard this song before: 5th weeks of a month are not what they used to. What this amounts to, this week, is a lot of Nth printings, and I do mean A LOT. So many, in fact, that some prime stuff might get lost in the shuffle. Let's take a quick look, shall we?
|Uncanny Inhumans #11 1:25 Variant
Marvel's hype machine is on and it seems that it's the kind of week were everyone decided to follow its instructions. Might be worth it if you can find it cheap. Same for the regular cover.
|Dark Knight III: The Master Race #5 Jim Lee Variant
As people quietly leave the Miller back in Batman train feeling confused, look for this and Miller's cover to become more and more scarce as the series progresses. The people who started either sets will want these.
|DC Universe Rebirth 3rd Printing
Possibly one of the most interesting Nth printings of the week, mostly because of the new cover by Gary Frank. If you like Nth printings, though, look out for the 2nd printing of the first 4 Rebirth one-shots (Batman, Green Arrow, Green Lanterns and Superman), as well as Justice League #50, Superman #52 and … Scooby-Doo Apocalypse #1!!!
|Jupiter's Legacy II #1
This goes beyond speculation. It could be written by Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage and I would still buy it, because of Frank Quitely. To paraphrase Manowar, “if you're not into Quitely, you're not my friend”. Yes, Manowar! There's more to music than hip-hop, people!
|Captain America #2
After people's reaction to last issue, it will be fun to see if anyone actually goes back to read what the actual planned story was. Paste magazine gave us yesterday the amazing headline “Marvel Backtracks on Captain America Revelation After Just One Issue”, because as everyone knows comics are done the day before they get published.
|Spider-Gwen Annual #1 Siya Oum Comic Block Variant
One of those annuals with lots of artists, and they're always interesting. But that preview page of Spider-Gwen and Spider-Ham by Jason Latour sells this for me. Latour is an amazing artist and his style works so well on super-heroes … Anyway, there's a fine Siya Oum variant for this.
|Spider-Man / Deadpool #6
While your LCS' shelves get flooded by new printings of previous issues (#1 is getting a 6th, #2 a 5th, #3 a 4th and #5 a 2nd … we're only missing a 3rd for #4 to have the complete printing to issue mirror sequence), don't forget there's a new issue coming out. True, the regular creative team are taking a break, but this if by Scott Aukerman and long-time Deadpool artist Reilly Brown, so it has potential.
Eric Powell self-publishing is something that some people may not be paying attention to. This is not a mini, either, with Powell confirming he will write and draw at least the first 12 issues, so it might become another Goon? If you like Eric Powell, you know what kind of general madness to expect, if you don't the series stars “a wandering vigilante armed with Satan’s own cleaver and a gigantic talking bear named Lucille” and I wouldn't be able to find anything wrong with that if you paid me.
|Jade Street Protection Services #1
Black Mask's new series and it looks good. Premise is interesting enough and it's always interesting to get introduced to new talent so why not?
A new series about two FBI agents investigating “America's terrifying underbelly of death cults and sleeper cells, serial killers and apocalyptic nightmares” doesn't sound like a lot of fun, but if it were a movie, I am sure you would be interested. Might be a good book to check on a slow week like this one.
That's it for this week. What would you buy? There can be only one!
