HOT 10 COMICS

NYX #3 (2012) Marvel Comics

NYX_Vol_1_3 (1) WRITER: Joe Quesada

This might have been the easiest decision ever for the #1 slot. The book is as hot as any book I can recall. CGC/CBCS graded 9.8 copies have eclipsed the 1k mark on a few occasions recently. This was a $400 book a few weeks ago. There was a thin, and I mean thin, rumor from the Latino Review website about a casting call for a character some perceived to be X-23. This caused a frenzy, and copies were being bought as fast as people could list them. I don't believe the rumor to be true, but the fact is that X-23 is one of the hottest characters in comics right now. Her new series is doing really well and people enjoy the character. Think about this, this book is now worth more than a New Mutants #98………

2 Captain America Vol.5 #6 Variant(2005) Marvel Comics

It's almost like clockwork. Every time the Winter Soldier appears in a Marvel movie this variant becomes super popular and a boatload of copies move on the secondary market. This past week has been no exception. With the Winter Soldier being one of the focal points of Civil War, his popularity continues to rise. This book is still affordable enough where people can buy copies on the cheap, which is nice in this day and age. The surge won't last long if the past repeats itself.

3 Batman/Superman Vol.2 #32 (2016) DC Comics

WRITER: Peter J. Tomasi
ARTIST: Tyler Kirkham
The most controversial book of the week is no doubt Batman/Superman #32. You can argue the validity of the speculation all you like, but nobody can argue that this book selling out and the buzz it has generated makes this #3 slot warranted. This is the 1st appearance of Kenan Kong. There was some debate about it being a cameo, but the character is shown in 5 panels and is the focal point of the whole story. This is a no doubt 1st appearance. Will this book be valuable in the future? Maybe, maybe not, but this is what makes comics fun. DC didn't alert anyone about this book and it was heavily under-ordered, causing a shortage to an extent. It has peaked and copies are being listed by the minute. I've said for days to buy a copy and put it away. If the Asian market buys into this character and the Great Ten, you might have something down the road. Larry Doherty was the person to reveal this information first.

4 Avengers Vol.1 #9 (1964) Marvel Comics

WRITER: Stan Lee
ARTIST: Donn Heck
The big news early in the week was the announcement of fan favorite Nathan Fillion playing Wonder Man in the new GotG movie. I'm not sure if anyone else watches Castle, but Mr. Fillion has been eating well, so I'm not sure how he's going to fit into this role, literally. That being said, this book is incredibly hot right now and copies are selling at a brisk pace on eBay. He has a ton of fans from Firefly and Castle and people like the guy. It all depends on his role, but this book has some meat left on it.

Amazing_Spider-Man_Vol_1_129_002

The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1 #129 (1974) Marvel Comics

WRITER: Gerry Conway
ARTIST: Gil Kane
People like the Punisher right now and the role portrayed by Bernthal as the Punisher in Daredevil was positively received. This has caused Marvel to announce that there will be a standalone Punisher series on Netflix in the near future. Couple that with the new Punisher series this week and you have a popular book. This is a book everyone wants in their collection and should see a decent price increase with the continued success of the character on TV.

Superman_Lois_and_Clark_Vol_1_1_Variant

Superman: Lois and Clark Vol.1 #1 Daniels Variant (2015) DC Comics

WRITER: Dan Jurgens
ARTIST: Lee Weeks
From all the information that has been gathered about DC's Rebirth so far, all signs point to this book being the new Superboy 1st appearance (John White/Jon Kent). This isn't set in stone yet, and there are other contenders for the 1st appearance, but this is the leader of the pack as of today.

7 Marvel Graphic Novel Vol.1 #4 (1982) Marvel Comics

WRITER: Chris Claremont
ARTIST: Bob McLeod
The New Mutants movie lineup was announced this past week by the director (Josh Boone). This difficult to find graphic novel in all grades saw a huge jump because of the announcement. It's not the most exciting line-up you'll ever see, but in today's speculator driven market it's all that was needed. The 1st appearance of the team and a majority of the announced members' 1st appearances makes this worth grabbing and holding onto.

Amazing Spider-Man #654 2nd Print (1999) Marvel Comics

WRITER: Dan Slott
ARTIST: Stefano Casseli
I don't get it, but the 1st appearance of Agent Venom is ridiculously hot right now. There haven't been any rumors that I'm aware of to cause this spike, but I think people assume that if Venom makes an appearance in a Spider-man movie that it will be Flash as Venom instead of Eddie. This book is breaking price records for itself almost weekly now, and the regular 1st print is selling just as fast. Head scratcher for sure.

9 Walking Dead #154 (2016) Image Comics

WRITER: Robert Kirkman
ARTIST: Charlie Adlard
The fact this book sold out through Diamond this week is very impressive. It introduces a new character named Beta, and he's a monster in stature. Walking Dead books are heavily speculated on, and this book has been no different. Copies are going for cover now, but if the “Whisperers” make it to TV this book will increase in value like most WD issues do.

10 Monstress #1 2nd Print (2016) Image Comics

WRITER: Marjorie Liu
ARTIST: Sana Takieda
I have ignored this book for far too long. The 2nd print of Monstress #1 has been incredibly hot the past month. Just when I think it can't go up anymore it slaps me in the face and tells me to pay attention. Raw copies are easy $50 sellers and graded 9.8 copies are starting to go for big bucks. It's a huge issue and tough to find in great shape due to that fact. If you can find them cheaply, it might be worth holding onto.

X-Men: Legacy Vol. 1 #211 Phoenix Comic Con Sketch Variant (2008) Marvel Comics

WRITER: Mike Carey
ARTIST: Scott Eaton
I read about this book in a really awesome thread on the CGC forums about modern variants. I don't think people realize exactly how rare this book is. Ghost!

Klaus #1 1:100 Burnham Virgin Variant (2015) Boom Studios

WRITER: Grant Morrison
ARTIST: Dan Mora
Optioned, rare, and a great story. Try and find one of these.
