Howard The Duck Vol 5 #1 Lim Gwenpool Variant (2015) Marvel Comics

ARTIST: Joe Quinones
This book in all honesty should have been ranked higher last week.  I figured it would have fizzled out by the time the Top 10 was posted. I was wrong – not only has it not fizzled out, but it has gotten stronger. Copies are selling for over $125 raw right now and even higher in some instances. I don't know how much further it will go up in value, but the argument for EoS #2 and this book being similar is valid. Marvel and Midtown have a JSC holiday cover with Gwenpool on the cover coming out soon, so the Marvel hype train is officially behind this character. Still money to be made.

The Untamed #1 Special Edition(2015) Stranger Comics

COMIC_untamed1alt WRITER: Sebastian A. Jones

This past week saw this book go from a G+ speculation into a full fledged hot book. Niobe is one of the most talked about books in the hobby right now. They have a television deal in place and this book has been receiving press from MSNBC, MTV, and This is her first appearance as the character Stranger. Sean Bean and Amanda Stenberg have been attached to the optioned property already. The Special Edition is sold out everywhere and copies on eBay are selling for $35 as fast as they get listed. The cover by Hyoung Taek Nam is one of the most detailed and realistic covers I have ever seen. This book has a TON of potential – if things go the way they are planned, this book is going to be a juggernaut.

3 Incredible Hulk Vol 4 #4  Venom Variant (2012) Marvel Comics

WRITER: Jason Aaron
ARTIST: Marc Silvestri
Let's face it, the Marvel Venom variant series from 2012 is one of the most popular and sought out variant series ever. Last week, Brian Marcon posted about Hulk/Venom appearing in the upcoming Contest of Champions #3. This book, which was already almost impossible to find, went nuclear based on the potential of this character being introduced into the Marvel continuity. The first appearance is in What If? Vol. 2 #4, but with the scarcity of the variant and its awesome cover, this will be the book to own. Copies are selling for over $200 raw and will continue to trend upwards.

Batman Vol 1#635 (2005) DC Comics

WRITER: Judd Winnick
ARTIST: Doug Mahnke
This book's ceiling is going to be surprisingly high. With all the rumors about the Red Hood playing an integral role in the upcoming Batman storylines in the DC movies, this is the book to own. Batman #357 is also still selling extremely well as it is the first appearance of Jason Todd. Batman books have a high print run due to their popularity, but this book has a surprisingly low amount of census entries at 9.8 (43 copies) and they don't show up on eBay as often as you might think. This book has lots of room to grow and, if the rumors prove true, who knows what the ceiling might be.

5 Empire of the Dead #1 Vol 1 (2015) Marvel Comics

WRITER: George Romero
ARTIST: Alex Maleev
Rumors and speculation go together like the Raiders and a losing season. ( Hi Shaun : ) ) Once the rumors about AMC picking this show up began to leak earlier this week, copies of this book got really hot, really fast. It went from a $8 book to a $20 book and even higher in some instances. There are two variants as well that are seeing a resurgence with the regular first print. If this does get optioned, it won't do what the Walking Dead did value-wise, but it's safe to say with Romero attached (and possibly AMC) this book has a lot of “Meat left on the Bone”.

6 Niobe, She is Life #1 Hoknes Virgin Variant (2015) Stranger Comics

WRITER: Amandla Stenberg
ARTIST: Ashley Woods
The first variant for Niobe was done by fellow CBSI member Terry Hoknes and was limited to 100 copies. The book sold out within a few weeks of being available and copies on eBay are now selling for $80 and up. The cover is simple and beautiful.  With the limited print run, Terry has a home run on his hands with this book. If you don't have a copy by now, you might be in trouble because books like this don't leave collectors' hands very often once they find a home. If Niobe continues to trend upward, this book will follow the ascent.

7 Walking Dead #100 2nd Print (2012) Image Comics

WRITER: Robert Kirkman
ARTIST: Charlie Adlard
Negan-mania has arrived after the casting of Jeffrey Dean-Morgan this past week. All copies of #100 his 1st appearance did incredibly well this past week, but the one that seemed to be doing the best, and with highest margin is the 2nd print. It shows Negan and Lucille on the cover and was way short printed compared to the regular covers. The Lucille variant is the Holy Grail, but this book is hard to find in NM+ due to the black cover. It's selling well at around $40 and should continue to move up as more news trickle in.

Preacher #1 (1995) DC Comics

WRITER: Garth Ennis
ARTIST: Steve Dillon
Did you guys hear about Preacher being on AMC? Apparently there was a trailer and everything went crazy last week. This book is one of my personal favorites and I'm glad it's getting a whole new group of people collecting it. The series has some insane content, but the story is special once you strip back a few of the layers of religion and debaucherous behavior. The book hasn't peaked yet but will probably go down and then back up closer to the premiere.

Captain Marvel Vol. 6 #17 2nd Print (2013) Marvel Comics

WRITER: Kelley Sue DeConnick
ARTIST: Filipe Andrade
This book is now a $950 book in 9.8. A copy sold this past week for that price, so it wouldn't surprise me if the $1k barrier will be broken in the next week or so. The debate is over and settled on what is the go-to first appearance of Ms. Khan. The rarity of this book and the Marvel paper quality make this one hard to find in high grade. The bottom half of the cover with its blue band just doesn't hide imperfections. This is Marvel's equivalent to Batman Adventures #12 and it's way more rare. If Marvel can pull their heads out of their “donkey” long enough to develop her in a proper series, they have a gold mine potentially.

10 Uncanny X-Force #20 Incentive Venom Variant (2012) Marvel Comics

WRITER: Rick Remender
ARTIST: Robbi Rodriquez
Another Venom variant you say? This book went crazy over the last week as well. Copies which were selling for $80 the past 6 months have shot up to over $200 in the past week with one sale yesterday for $280. The cover is incredible, and anything with Psylocke on the cover in a variant format is going bonkers (check out the Manara Uncanny X-Force #5 variant as well). The Venom variants as I said earlier are highly collectible and are starting to dry up. Having a white Venom/Deadpool on the cover doesn't hurt its value or collectible status either. I wouldn't be surprised if this book continues to go up to reach the $400 mark by the time the next X-men movie comes out.

I Kill Giants #1 (2008) Image Comics

WRITER: Joe Kelly
ARTIST: J. M. Ken Niimura
Try and find one, I dare you. Rarity and movie speculation – the perfect formula for the Pump and Dump Hype-Train. That being said, this book is a tough find and even tougher in a 9.8. If this movie is half as good as the initial series, this book has room to grow by leaps and bounds. It already sells for close to a $100 raw on eBay and they usually don't last long.

Teen Titans Vol. 3 #75 Adam Hughes Variant

WRITER: Felicia D. Henderson
ARTIST: Yildiray Cinar
I don't know if anyone has noticed or not, but this book is now a $200 book raw. It might be the most rare Hughes variant after the Wonder Woman #600 75th anniversary sketch. It's a beautiful cover with Starfire featured in a way only Hughes can do. Copies of this book just don't come around very often, and when they do, they sell for a premium.
